For the generation of short high-power pulses in many applications, power modulators based on capacitor discharge are used, where the peak power is drawn from the input capacitor bank. In order to continuously recharge the energy buffer during operation at a lower average power, usually, power supplies connected to the mains are used. Due to the worldwide variation in mains voltages and the desired ability to adapt the capacitor voltage of the modulator, the power supply has to support a wide input and output voltage range, whereby the supply should draw a sinusoidal current from the mains due to EMI regulations. Additionally, depending on the modulator concept, a galvanic isolation also has to be provided. In order to achieve the mentioned specifications for the considered power supply, a combination of an ac–dc and a dc–dc converter is proposed, whereas the mains voltage is rectified by a three-phase buck–boost converter to 400 Vdc, and thereafter, an isolated dc–dc converter charges the input capacitor bank of the power modulator up to 3.5 kV. This paper focuses on the basic operation and the design of the 3.5-kV/11-kW isolated dc–dc converter, which includes transformer design, efficiency-volume optimization, and component selection. The objective of this paper is to investigate an influence of high-frequency high-voltage impulse conditioning on the back-to-back capacitor bank switching performance of vacuum interrupters (VIs). Nine identical 7.2-kV VIs were tested by 80 CO operations after the proposed conditioning. Test inrush currents were set to 0-, 2-, and 5-kA peak. The experimental results showed that this conditioning technology could make an impact on both prestrike and restrike characteristics of VIs. The complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of the prestrike gap d\textrm {pre} followed complementary Weibull distribution. In contrast to VIs without conditioning, three typical prestrike gaps, i.e., CCDF 10% prestrike gap d\overline {10} , CCDF 50% prestrike gap d\overline {50} , and CCDF 90% prestrike gap d\overline {90}\vphantom {\sum RRR} , decreased by 39%, 19%, and 4% at most, respectively. Besides, the scattering of d\textrm {pre} decreased by 52% at most. Furthermore, the conditioning technology had an influence on the feature of restrike waveform through variation of field emission current. The spark gap switch is the key element in any pulsed power system, which directly determines the pulse repetitive frequency of the system. The dielectric recovery data of the spark gap play a basic role, but they have not yet been adequately studied for repetitive pulse charge conditions. This paper describes some of the factors that affect the recovery of spark gap switch for pulse-charged operation. A two-pulse technique has been used, in which the first pulse is applied to the spark gap to overvolt the gap and initiate the breakdown and the second pulse is used to determine the recovery voltage of the gap. The effects of electrode size, pulse rise time, and conduction current on the spark gap recovery performance are presented. Experiments were performed by using a double-pulse generator capable of generating 40-kV pulses with a delay of 1 ms–1 s. Spark gap electrodes of 34-, 40-, and 68-mm diameters and a point type were used in the study. The effect of voltage rise rate was studied by changing the charging capacitor to 100, 500, and 1000 nF in the circuit. An intermediate plateau was observed in the spark gap recovery curves. In addition, an increase in the output impedance resulted in a decrease in the time taken for the recovery of the spark gap. This paper presents the interleaved operation of a soft-switching boost converter operated in boundary conduction mode. First, the operating principle of the converter as well as the basic concept of the interleaving is presented. Then, the dynamic behavior is modeled using the z-transform to obtain a converter model that is independent of the switching frequency. With the model, the stability of the closed-loop system with a proportional–integral (PI) controller is analyzed. It is shown that an adaptive PI controller can be easily implemented to achieve a minimal settling time over a wide operating range. Finally, the controller is validated with two converters with a 40-kW nominal output power and an output voltage of 3 kV. This paper describes a compact high storage density inductive–capacitive storage module. The module is based on high-power opening switches using inverse current commutation with semiconductor devices commutation principle and a high storage density Brooks inductor. These opening switches, being able to switch-OFF pulse currents up to 14.5 kA by the counter-current subcircuit, make use of the general property of a standard high-power thyristors impedance transition from closing state to blocking state. The experimental results show that with the primary capacitor and counter-current commutation subcircuit charged voltage 3 and 2.5 kV, respectively, the charged current of the Brooks-type inductor is about 14.5 kA, with a charged time of about 4.5 ms. The output peak current of the inductive storage module is about 21 kA. The total stored energy is about 54.9 kJ while the energy density of the inductor is approximately 6.69 MJ/ \textm^3 , which is not including the primary storage and commutation unit. Many approaches exist for energy storage and delivery to the load, including high-power relativistic applications. One of the best solutions for the driver of high-power relativistic applications is the Marx generator. This paper describes the design, fabrication, and experimental validation of a Marx generator consisting of capacitors, spark-gap switches, and resistors. It is designed as an eight-stage Marx circuit to reach an output voltage level as low as −500 kV, and it is directly connected to the Blumlein pulse-forming line (PFL) to achieve more than 100 ns of the full-width at half-maximum. Experiments are performed with a solution load in a manner similar to having a coaxial structure in a high vacuum with a pressure of below 0.5\, \times \, 10^-5 torr, to prevent breakdown and measure the amplitude of the negative high-voltage pulse waveform. The solution load is designed to capture the short-pulse output of the PFL with a rise time of less than 25 ns and a voltage level of approximately −500 kV. The experimental results show that the output pulse can be used as a source to generate an intense relativistic electron beam at the gun for high-power relativistic applications. High-performance trigger generators with high amplitude, fast rise time, low jitter are essential for large-scaled pulsed-power systems. Most of the trigger generators are also tiny multistage pulsed-power systems with complicated structures. In this paper, a high-performance trigger generator was proposed by combining the advantages of low-jitter semiconductor switch and high-power gas switch. An avalanche transistor Marx circuit was developed. It was used to trigger a two-stage Marx generator based on trigatron switch. The output characteristics of the Marx circuit based on avalanche transistors and the two-stage Marx generator were studied. The experimental results show that a subnanosecond jitter, nanosecond rise time, high-voltage trigger generator can be achieved by triggering trigatron switch with an avalanche transistor circuit. Two-electrode graphite spark gap switch (TGSGS) is used as the main discharge switch and triggered by a reliable trigger generator in pulsed power conditioning system (PPCS). There would be 108 energy modules in PPCS working at the same time. The reliable operating and jitters of the trigger generators will have impact on the PPCSs performance. In this paper, the working modes of the TGSGS are discussed and the performance of trigger generators in PPCS is tested and presented. A protection strategy of the trigger generator in PPCS is introduced, and effect of the blocking capacitor on the trigger pulse transmission is analyzed and tested. The protection strategy of the trigger generator based on blocking capacitor and fuse can effectively prevent the energy anti-irrigation failure when the pulse transformer core saturated. The blocking capacitor has some effect on the trigger pulse transmission, and has the larger capacitance, getting the higher peak amplitude on the cathode of the TGSGS. It is tried to discuss the working characteristics of the thyristors, and proposes a selection reference of the thyristors in this and other similar applications. This paper describes the design and implementation of a three-phase resonant converter with low ripple and high control accuracy. Based on a three-phase LCC-type resonant converter—which has advantages of low ripple, high-efficiency, and high-power density compared with a single-phase converter—a high-voltage power supply with low ripple (<0.1%) was designed. In addition to the general merits of an LCC-type resonant converter operating at continuous conduction mode—including soft switching, low conduction loss, and current source characteristics—the proposed scheme uses only one phase under a light-load condition by having different leg designs of the gate drive circuit and snubber parameters. This allows the design to overcome the operational constraints of the general LCC-type resonant converter. The distinctive design of the three-phase converter structure provides high efficiency and low ripple not only during rated operation, but also under light-load conditions. In order to analyze the high performance of the proposed scheme from no load to rated load, a PSPICE simulation was carried out. Comparison results with a conventional LCC-type resonant converter based on a single-phase structure are analyzed from the viewpoints of output ripple, losses, and operable load range. Using the proposed converter, a 20-kV, 20-kW high-voltage dc power supply design and implementation was presented with a superior gate drive circuit. Finally, the superiority of the proposed converter was verified through a simulation and experimental results. It was experimentally confirmed that the developed power supply achieves high performance in terms of efficiency (98%), operable load range (0.5–20 kV), and low ripple (0.05%), with a high power density. A number of high-power applications require a transportable high-energy, high-current GW generator to drive a pulsed power system at the output. A first prototype, based on exploding wire technology and using an H-bridge circuit configuration, was developed at Loughborough University a few years ago and has been previously reported. The present stage of the work has necessitated the development of a more powerful and energetic source, and this is now based on inductive storage technology. A 400 kJ capacitor bank is connected by a high-Coulomb explosively driven closing switch with an air-cored 0.6 MV transformer, an exploding wire array, and a high-power diode based on a polarity-dependent spark-gap completing the arrangement. The GW generator, including the command and control module, is accommodated in two ISO containers. A repetitive 0.6 MV, 10 GW Tesla-driven Blumlein pulsed power generator, with an overall energy efficiency in excess of 90%, has been designed, manufactured and demonstrated by the Pulsed Power Group at Loughborough University. This paper describes the application of various numerical techniques used to design a successful generator, such as filamentary modeling and electrostatic and transient circuit analysis. All the major parameters of both the Tesla transformer and the Blumlein pulse-forming line were determined, enabling accurate modeling of the overall unit to be performed. The wide-bandwidth embedded sensors used to monitor the dynamic characteristics of the overall system are also presented. Experimental results obtained during this major experimental program are compared with theoretical predictions and the way ahead toward generating faster output voltage impulses is considered. In this paper, we investigated a water treatment method that sprays waste water droplets into a pulsed discharge space. To increase energy efficiency of this method, a pulsed power generator should output a pulsed power of a high peak and a short pulse width and be low circuit loss, high repetition rate, high power, and high stability. An inductive energy storage circuit using a semiconductor opening switch was studied to satisfy the above-mentioned requirement. Initially, effect of turn ratio of a pulse transformer (PT) in the circuit was investigated. Energy transfer efficiency and the pulsewidth of the output voltage increased with the PT turn ratio, resulting in an increase of the efficiency of the water treatment system. Then, the effect of the load impedance was investigated. The result showed that an optimum resistance to maximize the efficiency exists. From these results and a previous experimental report, we concluded that the optimization conditions are summarized below. The turn ratio and the inductance in the secondary circuit should be as high as possible under the condition, which does not output the very long pulse. The impedance of the discharge at an electrode for the water treatment should be a value that maximizes the energy transfer efficiency. This paper describes a modular solid-state switching cell derived from the Marx generator concept to be used in topologies for generating multilevel unipolar and bipolar high-voltage (HV) pulses into resistive loads. The switching modular cell comprises two ON/OFF semiconductors, a diode, and a capacitor. This cell can be stacked, being the capacitors charged in series and their voltages balanced in parallel. To balance each capacitor voltage without needing any parameter measurement, a vector decision diode algorithm is used in each cell to drive the two switches. In this paper, the charging precision of a 40-kW 3-kV soft-switching boost converter for capacitor charging is investigated. At the beginning, an overview on the topology and the control of the converter is given. Then, two different feedback controllers are presented and compared analytically to determine their sensitivity on noisy input variables. An algorithm to investigate the charging precision is illustrated. This algorithm considers the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of all measured signals, the controller output limitations, quantization related errors, the finite resolution in the digital domain, and the switching signal jitter to calculate the charging precision. All effects mentioned before are analyzed separately. This analysis shows that the output voltage measurement SNR is the key parameter for the charging precision. Then, measurements are performed to verify the model used to calculate the precision. These measurements show that the measured precision is only 6% higher than the precision predicted by the model for the used setup. Finally, the charging precision of the presented converter is analyzed including all considered effects. The repetition accuracy of the converter is determined to be 8.3 ppm at an output voltage of 3 kV, neglecting the load connection and the input voltage variation during one switching cycle. Utilization of power electronics converters in pulsed power applications introduced a new series of reliable, long life, and cost-effective pulse generators. However, these converters suffer from the limited power ratings of semiconductor switches, which necessitate introduction of a new family of modular topologies. This paper proposes a modular power electronics converter based on voltage multiplier as a high voltage pulsed power generator. This modular circuit is able to generate flexible high output voltage from low input voltage sources. In this paper, a compact rep-rate GW pulsed power generator is developed. First, its three key subsystems are theoretically analyzed, engineering designed, and experimentally investigated, respectively. The emphases are put on these four problems: the theoretical analysis of the voltage distribution across the conical secondary windings of the high-coupling transformer, the investigation of the high energy storage density dielectric used in the pulse forming line, the choice of the gas flow velocity of the gas blowing system, and theoretical analysis of the passive stability of the pulsed power generator operated in rep-rate mode. Second, the developed pulsed power generator is described in detail. It has a 0.2-m diameter, a 1.0-m length, and a 20-\Omega wave impedance. Across a 100-\Omega resistive dummy load, it can steadily operate at a 300-kV output voltage in 50-Hz rep-rate and 250 kV in 150 Hz without gas blowing system. The average power is \sim1~kW. Finally, the pulsed power generator is applied to drive a relativistic backward-wave oscillator, generating a high-power microwave with peak output power of 200 MW and duration (full-width at half-maximum) of 5 ns in 150-Hz rep-rate. Starting from the updated requirements of an advanced laser system, a switch–trigger system for a 2.0-MJ pulsed power supply (PPS) module is developed. This paper discusses the design, construction, and testing of this switch–trigger system. The two-electrode construction for the spark gap switch is selected because of its superiority in terms of long working life, high peak currents, and fast rise time of currents. The trigger generator based on resonant charging of a pulse transformer is constructed. A magnetic isolator and a pressure controller are the auxiliary equipment of this system. In the section based on mathematical principles, the equations of the lifetime and stability of this spark gap switch with graphite electrodes are given. These expressions can be regarded as the design basis of the same type of switch. As for the trigger generator, the analysis states that an appropriate ratio can be obtained when using the resonant charging based on a core-type pulse transformer. The charging time is dependent on the leakage inductance and the capacitance of the primary and secondary capacitors. Extensive testing proves the operating parameters of the switches and the trigger generator. The measured discharge current waveform of the 2.0-MJ capacitive PPS module is demonstrated to be over 500 kA peak current and 500 \mus pulse width. The life test proves that the switch–trigger system can support more than 200 kC transfer charge. By replacing the electrodes, the lifetime of this switch can be extended furthrer. Inductive pulse power supplies are of interest because their energy densities are one order of magnitude higher than those of capacitive power supplies, based on the same power-output capacity. The Institute of Advanced Technology puts forward an inductive pulse power topology called the slow transfer of energy through capacitive hybrid (STRETCH) meat grinder. In this topology, an active switch is used to cut off the charging current. Limited by the current turning off ability of integrated gated commuted thyristor, it may encounter difficulties in extending to higher-energy systems. Other than that, the cost of the system is very high. In this paper, the principle of the STRETCH meat grinder is presented. Then, the STRETCH meat grinder with inverse current commutation with semiconductor devices (ICCOS), which is proposed by the Institute of Saint Louis, is presented. The process of ICCOS in the STRETCH meat grinder is illustrated in detail. Finally, simulations are made based on Simplorer 8 to explain how ICCOS works clearly. A preliminary discussion of how to design ICCOS is also presented. We conclude that the STRETCH meat grinder with ICCOS removes the limitations of the original one and has potential applications for high-energy systems in future and can cut down the cost greatly. This paper discusses charging modes of series-resonant converter (SRC) for an energy storage capacitor in terms of charging time, losses of switch, normalized peak resonant current, normalized peak resonant voltage, and switch utilization in three operational modes. Principles of operation on the full-bridge SRC with capacitor load are explained, and charging characteristics in discontinuous and continuous operational modes are analyzed. Based on the analysis and the simulation focused on the aforementioned five performance indexes, ms = 0.5 is evaluated to be the optimized operating frequency ratio for charging an energy storage capacitor. A 1.8-kJ/s SRC prototype is assembled with the TI 28335 DSP controller and a 40-kJ 7-kV capacitor. Design rules based on the comparative analysis are verified by experiment. The operation of counterpulse capacitor banks has specific features which stand in the way of ensuring reliable functioning of the semiconductor switches. These features are as follows. Its operation is in the surge current mode, in which the semiconductor switches may become overheated, with the ensuing thermal breakdown of the semiconductor. The discharge process ends with blocking of the switches and current interruption in the circuit containing inductance. The resulting high-voltage spike may bring about electric breakdown and failure of the semiconductor switch which had been overheated by the high surge current. This paper studies these features and examines the ways capable of providing reliable operation of pulsed-power thyristors and light-triggered thyristors as discharge switches. The ultimate current loads were derived by analyzing thermal generation peaks in the curves of direct-voltage drop across the thyristors. The methods and equipment employed to suppress switching overvoltages are discussed. Specific snubber circuits which provide suppression of overvoltages and protect the thyristor against pulses with an inadmissibly high current rise rate have been developed and tested. A modular linear transformer driver (LTD) is a novel fast-discharge high-pulsed power source for primarily stored energy. In LTDs, a large number of stages (or cavities) can be connected in series or in parallel conveniently to directly generate high power pulses of 50–200 ns with the required voltage or current. This paper introduces an LTD stage developed by us recently. This LTD stage consists of 14 bricks in parallel. Each brick contains two 40-nF capacitors and a compact multigap gas spark switch in series. The switch is a modification of our original version, and the diameter and the height of which have been reduced to 98 and 127 mm, respectively. The circuit model of this stage is established in PSPICE, and its output parameters are obtained through simulation. Driving a rough-matched resistive load of 0.27 \Omega, its output current peak is 300 kA with an overall rise time of about 110 ns at a charged voltage of the capacitors of about \pm90 kV, agreeing well with its simulation result. In this paper, we describe a novel multiple-switch pulsed-power technology. The basic idea is that the heavy switching duty is shared by multiple switches. The multiple switches are interconnected via a transmission line transformer, in such a way that all switches can be synchronized automatically and no special external synchronization trigger circuit is required. It can produce either exponential or square pulses, with various voltage and current gains and with a high degree of freedom in choosing output impedances. The topology has been implemented on a prototype with ten spark-gap switches. Pulses with a rise time of 10 ns, a width of 55 ns, a peak power up to 810 MW, a peak voltage of 77 kV, and a peak current of 11 kA have been achieved at a repetition rate of 300 pps. The energy efficiency of the circuit is about 93%. In addition to spark gaps, any overvoltage-controlled switch can be applied in this topology. As an example, we demonstrate the synchronous switching of multiple thyristor switches for current multiplication. In this paper, the circuit model capable of dealing with magnetizing characteristics of the magnetic cores and switch prefire is established for linear transformer driver (LTD) cavities in PSPICE. Through simulation, the effects of switch prefire on other components in LTD and its output current pulse have been analyzed associated with the variation of energy loss in magnetic cores. Simulation results indicate that a switch prefire in one cavity would produce oscillations added to the charge voltage of the other switches in this cavity and cavities adjacent immediately. The magnitudes of such oscillations have an intimate relation with the magnetic core loss equivalent resistance. The loss equivalent resistances in the range from 4 to 6 \Omega have produced moderate voltage oscillations. Experiments on the 300-kA LTD cavity developed by the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology proved that such oscillations added to the charge voltage of other switches are likely to increase the breakdown probability of them. A new pulsed-power generator based on a Marx generator (MG) is proposed in this paper with a reduced number of semiconductor components and with a more efficient load-supplying process. The main idea is to charge two groups of capacitors in parallel through an inductor and take advantage of the resonant phenomenon in charging each capacitor up to twice as the input-voltage level. In each resonant half-cycle, one of those capacitor groups is charged; eventually, the charged capacitors will be connected in series, and the summation of the capacitor voltages are appeared at the output of a pulsed-power converter. This topology can be considered as a modified MG, which works based on the resonant concept. The simulated models of this converter have been investigated in a MATLAB/Simulink platform, and a laboratory prototype has been implemented in a laboratory. In this paper, starting from the project requirements, a 1.2-MJ pulsed power supply (PPS) module for a high-power laser system has been developed. The main circuit of this module consists of a high energy density capacitor bank, a spark gap switch, a magnetic switch, a trigger generator, and a load subsystem. Due to the superiority in the stability and service life, the two-electrode construction for the spark gap switch, high peak currents, and rise time of the currents is selected. Since a two-electrode spark gap switch has no separate trigger electrode and must be directly overvolted by the trigger generator, a small Marx generator has been designed and constructed for the advantage of the proven compactness and electrical performance. The effect of the magnetic switch represents a couple of functions. One is to block the triggering pulse produced by the Marx generator. Another is to permit the discharging current coming from the main capacitor bank. Finally, the measured discharge current waveform of the 1.2-MJ capacitive PPS module is demonstrated to be over a 300-kA peak current and a 500- \mu\s pulsewidth. This paper details the testing of a commercially available gate turn-off thyristor (GTO) for application in inductive-store power supplies. GTOs have been used as a component of inductive-store systems directly and as part of compound switches. These GTOs are generally available commercially and typically have extensive datasheets. However, the inductive-store application differs significantly from conventional switching applications, which significantly reduces the utility of the datasheets; GTOs are typically used at 100–1000 Hz in a fairly continuous manner, whereas in an inductive-store system, a GTO may be conducting for a relatively long time before doing a single turn off. Switch is one of the key issues in the pulsed power generation and applications. The closing switch is an essential part in capacitor-based energy-storage systems, and the spark-gap switches are a popular choice. These switches have very limited lifetime due to electrode erosion resulting from localized arc heating in high current. To extend the switch lifetime by minimizing electrode erosion, rotary arc gap (RAG) switches are proposed in previous literatures. The rotation of the arc can be achieved by providing magnetic field from external or self-induced by arc current. This paper investigates a RAG switch working in open air. It has a coaxial cylindrical structure. The arc is driven by an axial magnetic field which is generated by the coils that are placed both at the top and bottom of the switch. The coils are connected with an inner electrode. The switch can operate in a wide voltage range of 0.5–24 kV, and its specifications of current and coulomb per shot can reach 320 kA and about 730 C, respectively. The results of high-current experiments show that the electrode erosion is slight. Rotating arc velocity is measured by B-dot probes. The relationship between arc velocity and the current and magnetic flux density is obtained from the experimental data. The switch voltage drop is also measured in these experiments. The crowbar pulse current system includes a crowbar pulse current waveform forming circuit, a controlling unit, and a measuring unit. The crowbar pulse current circuit consists of a main air triggered switch, a triggered vacuum switch (TVS) which is used as the crowbar switch, and two trigger signal generators. A kind of TVS is designed and fabricated. Its triggering characteristics are tested, and experimental results show that, compared with other reported similar switches, the TVS has excellent characteristics such as wide operating voltage scope from 1.3 to 120 kV, short discharging delay time with maximum delay time at 400 ns, and its jitter at \pm10 ns. Based on the TVS, the crowbar 10/350- \mu\s pulse current circuit and its controlling circuit are designed. With a 36-\mu\F storage capacitor C and a 6-\mu\H waveform forming inductance L, a 10/350- \mu\s pulse current waveform with a maximum of 150 kA can be generated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a high-voltage pulsed-power system based on low-voltage switch–capacitor units that are connected to a current source for several applications such as plasma systems. A modified positive buck–boost converter topology is used to utilize the current source concept, and a series of low-voltage switch–capacitor units is connected to the current source in order to provide a high voltage with a high voltage stress (dv/dt) as demanded by the loads. This pulsed-power converter is flexible in terms of energy control because the stored energy in the current source can be adjusted by changing the current magnitude to significantly improve the efficiency of various systems with different requirements. In many pulsed-power applications, the flatness of the output pulse is an important characteristic to enable proper system operation, whereas a pulse flatness within less than a few percent has to be achieved. In power modulators based on capacitor discharge, this voltage droop is mainly defined by the input capacitance. In order to overcome this problem, in power modulator systems, compensation circuits are added, whereby in spite of a smaller storage capacitor, a flat pulse top is achieved. Depending on the pulse duration, different approaches for voltage droop compensation exist. For short pulse durations, in the range of several microseconds, only passive solutions or bouncer circuits are applicable. In this paper, the design and optimization of a two-winding inductor bouncer circuit are presented in order to achieve an output voltage droop of less than 1%. Due to the realized galvanic isolation, a new degree of freedom is obtained, which allows an adaptation of the bouncer circuit's voltage and current ratings to standard semiconductor switches. With an optimal design of the two-winding inductor bouncer circuit for the existing system, the volume of the input capacitor is reduced by a factor of 10.5, and the stored energy is decreased by a factor of 24 compared to a system without a bouncer circuit. This paper describes the construction and experimental tests of a 12-kV high-voltage high-action generator based on reverse-switching dynistor (RSD) assembly. The main RSD unit consists of seven 76-mm-diameter dynistor pieces connected in series with a blocking voltage of about 2.4 kV, a magnetic switch based on a 1K101 amorphous alloy core, the trigger system based on a saturable transformer, and a 16-mm RSD assembly; the trigger current could reach 2 kA in amplitude with 1-\mu\s duration under 10 kV. The working voltage rate of this RSD unit is about 8–12 kV. Experiment on a 2.2-mF capacitor test bed under 12 kV working voltage, the switch current amplitude reached 150 kA with 300-\mu\s duration; the transferred charge is about 26.5 C and the action is 2.94 \MA^2\s, respectively.
