This bibliography was prepared for the IEEE Education, Recognition and Planning Subcommittee of the IEEE Switchgear Committee to be used as a reference for switchgear education. The references essentially cover the period of time from 1975 through 1979 with a few papers preceding this period. The last complete bibliography appeared in the AIEE Transactions, Vol. 94, pp. 908-914, 1975. It is expected that these references will be updated on a regular basis hereafter.

This paper attempts to provide a current listing of training courses, programs, and resource materials for Power System Operator/Dispatcher training. The training resources are subdivided into five (5) categories: I. Dispatcher training courses and facilities developed by the Suppliers/Manufacturers II. University Short Courses III. Conference Publications IV. Reference Books V. Correspondence Courses

This paper provides a specification for the exchange of power plant and load data in five categories: generator data, excitation system data, power system stabilizer data, speed-governing system data, and composite load data.

This committee report documents two-terminal HVDC system model structures for power system stability analysis. These-models are intended for steady-state and transient stability analysis. The DC system structures are limited to two-terminal links; however, the modularity of the control systems will make extension to multi-terminal systems relatively easy. The modularity of the structure will also facilitate the incorporation of newer control schemes for AC/DC systems.

A format has been developed which provides a concise and meaningful approach for recording pertinent background information on power circuit breaker field problems. Suggestions are included for utilization of the information to reduce future un-planned maintenance.

This paper surveys the important dynamic performance parameters of two-terminal HVdc systems. Specific HVdc systems included are the Pacific HVdc Intertie, the Nelson River Bipoles 1 and 2, the Eel River and Stegall back-to-back ties, the CPA-UPA (CU) and the Square Butte HVdc systems and the Vancouver Island cable system. The parameters tabulated (Table 1) and the dynamic performance features described should be sufficient for dynamic performance evaluations of the corresponding ac/dc systems by means of generally available transient and dynamic stability programs. These characteristics of existing HVdc systems may influence the modeling and design of future HVdc systems for transmission planning studies.

The trend toward extra-high-voltage (EHV) has focused attention on acceptable audible noise levels due to corona. The Radio Noise Subcommittee whose members are intimately concerned with the audible noise problem, has consolidated the results of research and experience to present this guide on the measurement of audible noise from transmission lines.

This paper covers methods and equipment for live-line maintenance. It recommends minimum insulation and approach distances calculated on an engineering basis in terms of flashover and withstand levels for equipment and gaps. These recommendations are flexible and can accommodate revision in basic concepts. They present a basis from which working clearances and methods can be developed for specific needs in particular applications.

This paper presents present practices within the utility industry in the economic operation of electric power systems. It is intended primarily as a reference for those new in this area of endeavor. It also discusses certain shortcomings of present practices and areas requiring further development.

The availability of large digital computers has permitted more extensive computation of power system stability, a subject of increasingly greater importance. This paper suggests a common nomenclature and control system representation of the various excitation systems now available. It can be used to define input data requirements for computer programs, and can provide a consistent format in which manufacturers can respond to requests for excitation system data to be used for system studies.

Although the first low-pressure oil-filled cable operating at 60 kV and above was installed in the Western Hemisphere in 1927, there are still some utilities which are installing this type cable for the first time. Due to the increasing popularity of high- pressure pipe-type cable, very small amounts of this cable are being installed today.

The first high-pressure pipe-type cable in the Western Hemisphere operating at 69 kV and above was installed in 1932. At the present time there is in operation over 2000 circuit miles operating in the range of 69 to 345 kV. There are many utilities which will be installing this system for the first time and it is hoped that information contained in this paper will aid in selecting the type required for their requirements.
