The prediction error (PE) identification methods are used for the concurrent estimation of the echo path and an autoregressive near-end signal. A new recursive prediction error (RPE) identification algorithm and three PE identification algorithms from adaptive feedback cancellation are applied to different double-talk scenarios occurring in acoustic echo cancellation.

The change detection problem in partially observed nonlinear systems with unknown change parameters, which satisfy the hidden Markov model (HMM) property, is analyzed. The results have shown that expected log likelihood (ELL) complements the existing detection statistics such as tracking error (TE) or observation likelihood (OL), which are designed to detect the loss of track that occurs due to sudden changes.

The design of linear dispersion (LD) space-time codes applied to a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system from both the information-theoretic and detection error viewpoints is examined. The computer simulations have shown that these codes have bit-error performance advantages over the available codes.

The joint maximum-likelihood (ML) detection and decoding on Gaussian vector channels is considered, where the transmitted data is encoded by a linear block error-correcting code. The simulation results have shown significant performance gains over systems by using separate detection and decoding, but they are obtained at a complexity that is practically feasible over a wide range of system parameters.

Rate-compatible low-density parity-check codes are used to provide unequal error protection for the robust and efficient transmission of JPEG2000 compressed images over noisy channels. Its performance is evaluated on binary symmetric channels and the results indicate that the proposed scheme compares favorably with other combined source/channel coding schemes over a variety of channel conditions and transmission bit rates.

The way in which oversampled filter banks (OFBs) can be considered as error-correcting codes acting on real or complex sequences, very much like classical binary convolutional codes act on binary sequences is described. The notions of code subspace, syndrome, and parity-check polynomial matrix for OFBs are defined.

An approach based on direct minimization of symbol-error-rate (SER) is proposed for the decision feedback equalization (DFE) with a multilevel pulse-amplitude modulation signaling scheme. Computer stimulation is employed to evaluate the proposed alteration MSER design for equalization application with multilevel signaling schemes.

The study reveals that a methodology is used to formulate a test with adequate levels of robustness and detection sensitivity for the case where no prior information is available on the interference subspace. It reveals that based on the methodology, alternate robust test formulations that take advantage of partial knowledge of the interference subspace are under investigation.

A new adaptive algorithm based on the idea of imposing a unit norm constraint on the filter coefficients in order to obtain consistent estimates for equation-error system identification is presented. An analysis of stationary points and mean convergence properties is developed.
