This paper studies the secure transmission in a multiuser broadcast channel where only the statistical channel state information of the eavesdropper is available. We propose to apply secret dirty-paper coding (S-DPC) in this scenario to support the secure transmission of one user and the normal (unclassified) transmission of the other users. By adopting the S-DPC and encoding the secret message in the first place, all the information-bearing signals of the normal transmission are treated as noise by potential eavesdroppers and thus provide secrecy for the secure transmission. In this way, the proposed approach exploits the intrinsic secrecy of multiuser broadcasting and can serve as an energy-efficient alternative to the traditional artificial noise (AN) scheme. To evaluate the secrecy performance of this approach and compare it with the AN scheme, we propose two S-DPC-based secure transmission schemes for maximizing the secrecy rate under constraints on the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the normal transmission rates. The first scheme directly optimizes the covariance matrices of the transmit signals, and a novel approximation of the intractable SOP constraint is derived to facilitate the optimization. The second scheme combines zero-forcing dirty-paper coding and AN, and the optimization involves only power allocation. We establish efficient numerical algorithms to solve the optimization problems for both schemes. Theoretical and simulation results confirm that, in addition to supporting the normal transmission, the achievable secrecy rates of the proposed schemes can be close to that of the traditional AN scheme, which supports only the secure transmission of one user. This paper analyzes priority-based distributed access control in vehicular networks. Characterizing the spatial correlation between vehicles, users, and roads, this paper uses Cox point processes to model vehicles and users, respectively. Then, this paper proposes that each vehicle transmits if it has the highest priority among all of its neighbors. Using the stochastic geometry framework, this paper derives the probability that a typical vehicle is retained to transmit. Then, this paper derives a second-order moment measure of the retained point process to evaluate the signal-to-interference (SIR) distribution of a typical user. This paper provides a comprehensive performance comparison between a current robust military waveform; namely, MIL-STD-188-110D, Waveform 0, and a filter bank multicarrier spread-spectrum (FBMC-SS) waveform proposed for communications through ionospheric/skywave HF channels. Waveform 0 is effectively a direct sequence spread spectrum waveform that uses Walsh multi-codes to enhance the information transmission rate. It may thus be referred to as Walsh-DSSS. FBMC-SS, on the other hand, makes use of filter banks to provide excellent performance when the received signal is subject to partial band interference. Successful application of FBMC-SS for communications across skywave HF channels has been previously demonstrated, both theoretically and through experimental work. However, very little has been done to contrast FBMC-SS against Walsh-DSSS. The goal of this paper is to first add new features to FBMC-SS to bring it on par with Walsh-DSSS. These features include: (i), introduction of multi-codes that achieve a comparable (or better) data rate to Walsh-DSSS; and (ii), addition of a scrambling step applied to the multi-codes to make the receiver detection robust against widely spread multipaths. With this established, in the second part of the paper, we examine the performance of the developed FBMC-SS against Walsh-DSSS when both are applied for communications across skywave HF channels. The two waveforms are compared both through a theoretical study and through experimental works across several skywave channels ranging from hundreds to thousands of kilometers. This correspondence paper studies how correlation of the wiretap channel affects the secrecy rate of the artificial noise (AN) scheme. To this end, we first develop a simple but tight lower bound on the ergodic secrecy rate of the AN scheme on correlated multiple-input single-output wiretap channels. Then, utilizing the derived bound, we investigate the influence of correlation on the secrecy rate, which explicitly manifests how the channel correlation affects the optimal power allocation. Ultimately, this paper answers two fundamental questions: when is the AN signal beneficial? and how much power should be allocated for the AN signal to achieve a higher ergodic secrecy rate? in terms of channel correlation. The performance of the recently proposed orientational beamforming (OBF) system for ultra-wideband (UWB) signals degrades seriously in multiuser situation. Although various techniques have been proposed in the literature to suppress multiuser interference in the time-hopping UWB system, there has been no research on interference suppression in the OBF UWB system. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear OBF system via a modified radial basis function (RBF) neural network, named the RBF-OBF system, to reject orientational UWB interferences caused by multiuser transmission in the OBF system. The RBF neural network is selected mainly because of its simple structure, convenient training process, and fast convergence speed. However, the conventional Euclidean-distance-based RBF neural network is not suitable for the training process used in this work, as the training samples are noiseless orientational steering vectors in frequency domain. Therefore, a modified RBF neural network is proposed in this paper, which evaluates the similarity between an input vector and the center vector of a hidden layer neuron by their signed complex correlation coefficient. Numerous simulations demonstrate that compared to the conventional OBF system, the proposed RBF-OBF system can significantly reduce the bit error rates (BERs) under different noise and interference situations. In this paper, we investigate device-to-device (D2D) communication networks which are one of the key technologies for next-generation mobile communication networks and many other applications such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), and Internet of things (IoT). The overlay D2D communication networks that are considered in our study use dedicated radio resources separate from what cellular networks use and there exists co-channel interference in D2D networks without cross-channel interference between two networks. We propose a new transmission scheme for overlay D2D networks that uses a dueling deep reinforcement learning (DRL) architecture. The DRL is especially effective in environments where actions do not affect subsequent states as in wireless communication networks. The main contribution of this paper is that the proposed architecture is designed to utilize only information that each D2D devices can easily obtain by measuring channels. The proposed scheme thus enables D2D devices to train their own neural networks and to decide autonomously whether to transmit data without any intervention from infrastructures. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed in terms of average sum-rates and is compared to three baseline schemes. In this correspondence paper, we address the direct position determination (DPD) problem for wideband stationary sources using time-delayed and Doppler-stretched signals collected by multiple moving receivers. The source signals are assumed to be zero-mean, stationary, and Gaussian distributed, which is reasonable in most passive sonar and acoustics scenarios. A scaled formulation is used for wideband signals to elaborate the Doppler effect, as significant biases will be introduced if such signals are approximated with narrowband models directly. In this paper, wideband signals are decomposed into a small number of low-dimensional components with high accuracy, and a computationally efficient DPD method is proposed by jointly utilizing the time delay and scaling information of received signals. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed DPD method, the Cramér Rao lower bound for source localization in the considered scenario is derived. The critical nature of vehicular communications requires their extensive testing and evaluation. Analytical models can represent an attractive and cost-effective approach for such evaluation if they can adequately model all underlying effects that impact the performance of vehicular communications. Several analytical models have been proposed to date to model vehicular communications based on the IEEE 802.11p (or DSRC) standard. However, existing models normally model in detail the MAC (Medium Access Control), and generally simplify the propagation and interference effects. This reduces their value as an alternative to evaluate the performance of vehicular communications. This paper addresses this gap, and presents new analytical models that accurately model the performance of vehicle-to-vehicle communications based on the IEEE 802.11p standard. The models jointly account for a detailed modeling of the propagation and interference effects, as well as the impact of the hidden terminal problem. The model quantifies the PDR (Packet Delivery Ratio) as a function of the distance between transmitter and receiver. The paper also presents new analytical models to quantify the probability of the four different types of packet errors in IEEE 802.11p. In addition, the paper presents the first analytical model capable to accurately estimate the Channel Busy Ratio (CBR) metric even under high channel load levels. All the analytical models are validated by means of simulation for a wide range of parameters, including traffic densities, packet transmission frequencies, transmission power levels, data rates and packet sizes. This paper presents a multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) precoder with a compensated QR decomposition (CQRD) combination for coordinated multipoint (CoMP) downlink transmission. Unlike conventional QR decomposition (QRD) combination, CQRD combination adopts compensated channel matrix orderings. This paper first proposes CQRD combination for CoMP scenarios. The statistics for combined spatial subchannel gains with a CQRD combination of two coordinated base stations (BSs) are derived, and these statistics show that more balanced subchannel gains are generated with a CQRD combination than with a QRD combination. Furthermore, this paper proposes a generalized CQRD combination scheme with a joint sorting strategy that can be applied to scenarios with more than two coordinated BSs. Unlike the unsorted strategy, the joint sorting strategy determines an enhanced compensated combination to further increase spatial subchannel gains; therefore, the performance can be upgraded. Because conventional Tomlinson–Harashima precoding (THP) cannot be used in the CQRD combination, interference presubtraction and vector precoding (VP) is adopted. Theoretical analysis and simulation results are both provided to demonstrate the advantages of balanced spatial subchannel gains and enhanced bit-error-rate (BER) performance in the proposed CQRD-based schemes. One of the goals of this paper is to contribute to finding distributed power control strategies, which exploit efficiently the information available about the global channel state; it may be local or noisy. A suited way of measuring the global efficiency of a distributed power control scheme is to use the long-term utility region. First, we provide the utility region characterization for general utility functions when the channel state obeys an independent block fading law and the observation structure is memoryless. Second, the corresponding theorem is exploited to construct an iterative algorithm, which provides one-shot power control strategies. The performance of the proposed algorithm is assessed for energy-efficient and spectrally efficient communications and shown to perform much better than state-of-the-art techniques, with the additional advantage of being applicable even in the presence of arbitrary observation structures such as those corresponding to noisy channel gain estimates. In this paper, variable measurement interval is proposed for channel-adaptive random access with discontinuous channel measurement. After each channel measurement, the next measurement interval is adaptively determined based on previous channel measurement. Results show that receiver power consumption for channel measurement can be reduced with variable measurement interval under the same average transmission delay constraint compared with fixed measurement interval. Combining a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and microelectromechanical technology-based inertial system (MINS) has become essential in land vehicle navigation systems. In an urban environment, the error of position output by GNSS receiver increases because of the blocking and reflection of the signal by buildings, which affects the positioning accuracy of the integrated system. In order to improve the positioning accuracy under these scenarios, this paper proposed a new robust method based on the estimation of the standard deviation of GNSS positioning error. In our study, a method for estimating the standard deviation ${\boldsymbol{\sigma}}^p$ (or variance) of the position error of GNSS receiver is firstly proposed. Then a robust filtering method combined multi-factor scaling and bias estimation is proposed based on the estimation of ${\boldsymbol{\sigma}}^p$. The simulations and vehicle navigation test show that the proposed method has a robust positioning effect. When ${\boldsymbol{\sigma}}^p$ increases, the position accuracy is closed to the Sage-Husa filtering method with boundary constraint (SH-KF). In this paper, we propose a reference-free artificial noise (AN) waveform design and cancellation scheme for single-input-single-output (SISO) wireless secure transmission. First, a system structure with the aid of AN is presented, where we provide a specific method extracting the sign information of each symbol from the desired signal (DS) to form AN at the transmitter. Then, we notice that the legitimate receiver enable to reconstruct the AN from the received signal by almost the same method as the transmitter without AN reference, which reduces the system complexity in practice. Subsequently, the AN cancellation performance and the secrecy capacity at the receiver are analyzed, and their upper bounds are also derived. Finally, simulation results confirm that the proposed reference-free AN design and cancellation scheme can effectively suppress the AN at legitimate receiver, while degrades the signal to noise ratio (SNR) at eavesdropper seriously, which provides impressive secure performance in terms of secrecy capacity. This paper examines the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) characteristics of the vehicular MIMO channel at 5.9 GHz by analyzing the correlation of multipath components (MPCs) in the case of high antenna separation and the angular characteristics of the same scenario. The scenario is selected as crossing traffic on urban intersections. The 2 $\times$ 2 channel measurements with a wideband channel sounder are employed for the correlation analysis, and in parallel, the same scenario is simulated with a ray-tracing tool for the analysis of the angular domain. We introduce measures and tools to describe the relevant characteristics and the performance; the limitations of the ray-tracing simulation are also subdued to critical evaluation. The focus of this paper is set on the evaluation of the presented method on one selected experiment (combination of measurement and ray-tracing simulation) rather than on an exhaustive statistical analysis of many scenarios. The combination lies in the higher level of analyzing the MIMO characteristics of the channel using two different methods. The results provide that the MIMO channels show a similar power level in terms of mean MPC power, but the linear correlation stays relatively low. Specifically, discrete MPCs tend to be more highly correlated than diffuse MPCs. Furthermore, the angular spread is highly dynamic but small and substantially increases when both vehicles are near the center of the intersection. Two-path relay networks can be deployed to achieve full-rate transmissions. In this paper, we introduce stable throughput analysis into decode-and-forward (DF) two-path relay networks. We establish the queueing model and take outage probabilities into consideration to characterize the packet-level cooperation and derive the closed-form stable throughput region. Based on the stable throughput region, we also propose a power-allocation scheme between the source node and relays to maximize the achievable packet rate. The maximal achievable packet rate determines the admission control of certain cooperation (i.e., when to cooperate) under a specific interrelay interference (IRI) cancellation technique. The power allocation is utilized to illustrate how to cooperate between the source node and relays. Within the scenario of the proliferation of smart vehicles, a novel tendency is to exploit the cooperation between vehicles to create vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) using the IEEE 802.11p standard. IEEE 802.11p includes dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) between high-speed vehicles and between the vehicles and the roadside infrastructure in the licensed intelligent transportation system (ITS) band at 5.9 GHz. At such frequencies, fading problems caused by the Doppler effect and/or multipath adversely affect propagation, particularly in dense urban environments. To reduce such propagation impairments, the use of lower frequencies has been proposed in literature, namely the TV white spaces (TVWS) in the ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) band. TVWS is the part of the spectrum licensed to broadcasters that is not occupied at a given time in a given geographical area on a noninterfering/nonprotected basis with regard to primary services. This paper analyses coexistence issues between digital video broadcasting—terrestrial (DVB-T)2 and IEEE 802.11p transmission in the TVWS. The aim of this paper is twofold: to evaluate the protection of DVB-T2 broadcasting services interfered by IEEE 802.11p communications and the impact of adjacent DVB-T2 services on IEEE 802.11p communications in the TVWS. The main outcomes of this paper are the maximum transmission power level and bandwidth configuration of an 802.11p signal in the adjacent channel (i.e., TVWS) of an active DVB-T2 system while protecting the broadcast service, as well as the error rate curves for each allowed mode of IEEE 802.11p in the TVWS to evaluate the performance of VANETs communications coexisting with DVB-T2 regular services in the licensed TV band. This paper investigates the scenario in which a weak desired signal reaches a poorly selective receiver along with a high-powered pulsed radar occupying a neighboring channel. Traditionally, an automatic gain control (AGC) is used to fit the high-powered radar into the dynamic range of the receiver. However, this approach desensitizes the receiver because it also sacrifices the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the desired signal. We propose the use of an auxiliary receive path to address this problem of strong neighboring channel signals. In this method, receiver gain is not lowered to avoid clipping. Instead, the strong signal is allowed to clip and distort the desired signal. This paper shows that only a subset of the symbols contained in the desired signal will be distorted; hence, redundancy within the desired signal (due to forward error correction) can be exploited to “fill the gaps” created by the distortion. The auxiliary path samples the envelope of the strong neighboring-channel signal and informs the decoder about which symbols are distorted (or “bad”) and which symbols are not distorted (or “good”). This additional information is shown to improve the estimation performance of the decoder in the presence of high-powered neighboring-channel radar. Using simulation and hardware-based experiments, it is shown that auxiliary-path-based receivers can obtain a significantly better throughput performance than AGC-based receivers. Previous correlation-based wideband multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) channel models have been limited to non-line-of-sight (NLoS) scenarios where simple antenna correlation measurements are sufficient to describe the correlated Gaussian process representing the fading statistics. However, in the presence of line-of-sight (LoS) or specular reflections, simple antenna correlation measurements unfortunately do not lead to accurate fading characterizations. In this paper, we propose a trend-stationary correlation-based analytical model for wideband LoS and NLoS MIMO channels and design and validate a wideband multitone MIMO channel sounder and estimator to, respectively, measure channel impulse responses (CIRs) and estimate channel parameters for this model. Joint maximum-likelihood (ML) estimation of the LoS component and the NLoS complex correlation matrix is presented. In addition to enabling the estimation of the path correlation matrix of a wireless channel in the presence of LoS components, the modeling approach also provides tools to evaluate the validity of the assumption of uncorrelated scattering (US), even in LoS environments, which is commonly used in channel modeling. A more general model that does not assume US is also presented, which can likewise be estimated using the proposed estimator. To validate the channel sounding/model estimator techniques, we employ channel sounding waveforms and collect snapshots from the outputs of a state-of-the-art hardware MIMO channel emulator capable of emulating multipath channels under the US assumption. Receiver signal processing and channel parameter estimation are performed on the collected data, and the results are compared with the emulated channel parameters. The work is unique in that it provides a correlation-based multipath MIMO channel modeling approach that addresses LoS environments, it describes corresponding estimation techniques to extract the full complex correlation matrix, and the model estimators are backed using channel sounding with emulation-based validation. This paper presents a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-assisted full-duplex (FD) cooperative spectrum sharing protocol to achieve full-rate at a cell-edge primary user, where the secondary receiver helps the primary network relay the information to the cell-edge primary user. Unlike other FD cooperative schemes, the FD relay in the proposed system is not transmitting while receiving symbols from the primary transmitter. Hence, the proposed scheme can achieve full-rate at a primary user without degrading its outage performance. Further, it guarantees every alternate time-slots to the secondary network for accessing the licensed spectrum by employing a secondary receiver as a cooperative relay. In this paper, we derive the analytical expression for the outage probability and ergodic capacity. Moreover, we validate the derived expression through simulation and asymptotic results. This paper explores the feasibility and scope of co-channel coexistence between a low data rate Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) secondary network and a digital television (DTV) broadcast network operating in the same area. Since DTV receivers do not transmit, neither the presence nor the impact of interference from the secondary network on these DTV receivers can be known. Consequently, conventional spectrum sensing techniques cannot be employed effectively. This paper proposes to compensate the lack of feedback by combining the available information about population distribution in the region - ranging from coarse population density estimates to accurate geospatial maps - with better estimation of interference using a data-driven technique called Ordinary Kriging. Radio Environment Maps constructed using the Kriging method from field-reported observations from the secondary nodes are used to obtain better accuracy than the conventional statistical models. The estimates are then used to compute communication parameters for each secondary link in terms of power, number of active subcarriers, and active time slots, while keeping the average interference in the DTV network within threshold bounds. Thus, the viability of such co-channel license-exempt operation of secondary networks in the DTV black and grey spaces for low data rate applications in densely populated urban areas and higher data rate capabilities for sparsely populated rural areas is established. The joint transmission scheme of polar codes and sparse code multiple access (SCMA) has been regarded as a promising technology for future wireless communication systems. However, most of the existing polar-coded SCMA (PC-SCMA) systems suffer from high latency caused by the feedback iteration and list decoding. In addition, the error performance of PC-SCMA systems is unsatisfactory for ultra-reliable transmission. Inspired by the compelling benefits of non-binary polar codes, in this paper, we design a non-binary polar-coded SCMA (NB-PC-SCMA) system with a free order matching strategy to address the issues of delay and reliability. Specifically, we first formulate a joint factor graph for NB-PC-SCMA and propose a non-binary successive cancellation list (NB-SCL) and damping based joint iterative detection and decoding (NSD-JIDD) multiuser receiver to improve the BER and latency performance. Then, a lazy-search based NB-SCL (L-NB-SCL) decoding is proposed to reduce the computational complexity by simplifying the path search pattern of the list decoder. After that, we modify the update of user nodes for SCMA detection to improve the convergence error and finally propose the improved NSD-JIDD (ISD-JIDD) algorithm, which can avoid redundant operations by exploiting L-NB-SCL decoding. Simulation results show that the proposed NB-PC-SCMA system achieves better bit error rate (BER) performance and considerable latency gain when compared to its counterparts. This paper considers a network where a node wishes to transmit a source message to a legitimate receiver in the presence of an eavesdropper. The transmitter secures its transmissions employing a sparse implementation of random linear network coding (RLNC). A tight approximation to the probability of the eavesdropper recovering the source message is provided. The proposed approximation applies to both the cases where transmissions occur without feedback, or where the reliability of the feedback channel is impaired by an eavesdropper jamming the feedback channel. An optimization framework for minimizing the intercept probability by optimizing the sparsity of the RLNC is also presented. The 21st century is defined as the era of technological development. With drastic increase in population, automation is becoming the need of the hour in order to make life more comfortable and easy. Due to the advancement and development in the field of automation and embedded system, the notion of smart car has become very popular. Smart cars are modernizing trends in the traditional automobile industry. Companies across the globe have been investing a huge amount of resources on the production and design of smart cars. Every technological development needs to overcome certain obstacles, and hence, in this paper, a design of a collision detection system for smart car using light fidelity (Li-Fi) and ultrasonic sensor on the Arduino platform is proposed. This design consists of an ultrasonic sensor, an Arduino processor, and a Li-Fi circuit. The ultrasonic is used for measurement of distance between vehicles, and Arduino processes the data and makes decisions accordingly. Data transmission between vehicles is ensued using a Li-Fi transmitter circuit and a Li-Fi receiver circuit. The transmitter circuit is mounted on the tail lights of the leading car and the receiver circuit is mounted on the front side of the car that follows. Using visible light communication, the transmitter circuit transmits the calculated speed and the information is received by the receiver circuit of the second car. On the basis of the information received, the speed of the second car is changed in order to avoid collision. In this paper, the scaling law of the network throughput of a special type of heterogeneous networks is studied, where a secondary network composed of cognitive users shares the same resources opportunistically with a primary network of licensed users. Some pioneering works in this area showed that this type of heterogeneous networks performs as well as two stand-alone networks under the dense network model. A key assumption behind this conclusion is that the density of the secondary network is higher than that of the primary network in the order sense, which essentially decouples the two overlaid networks as the secondary network dominates asymptotically. In this paper, we endeavor to investigate this problem with a weaker condition that the dimensions of the two overlaid networks are on the same order, under the extended network model. Our analysis shows that, with the ratio of the two network sizes larger than a threshold, this weaker (and arguably more practical) condition does not degrade either network throughput scaling. This paper discusses a practical design of nonlinearity preprocessors to be used in a receiver for mitigating performance degradation in an impulsive noise environment. A simple method is proposed for a blanker and a soft limiter to calculate a blanking and a clipping threshold, respectively. In addition, to evaluate the bit error performance of a receiver with the proposed nonlinearity preprocessors, this paper introduces an approach using a periodic pulse train function and Fourier series. When a nonlinearity preprocessor is used, since the output samples show a truncated probability density function, it is generally difficult to evaluate the bit error performance of a receiver. Analytical and simulation results show that the thresholds computed by the proposed method are near optimal in terms of efficacy function and that the error performance of the proposed nonlinearity preprocessors matches well with that of the ideal design of nonlinearity preprocessors with optimal thresholds. This paper investigates collaborative spectrum sharing (CSS) for which a cognitive secondary transmitter acts as a decode-and-forward (DF) relay for two primary users (PUs) occupying an interfering multiple-access channel. PUs are assumed to send their signals simultaneously; hence, interference between the primary signals exists due to the multiple-access nature. The secondary user (SU) selects and forwards one of the PU's signals to a desired destination, and at the same time, the SU also transmits its own signal only if it is not harmful to PUs. The selection of a primary signal to relay is investigated, depending on SU's knowledge of two primary source–destination channels, for which closed-form outage probabilities for PUs and SU are provided accordingly. With the help of the closed-form PU's outage probability, an optimal selection strategy between the primary signals and an optimal power allocation between the primary and secondary signals are also obtained in closed form, which minimizes SU's outage probability while keeping the PU's outage performance at an SU-free level. Numerical investigation is used to verify and illustrate the analysis given in this paper. This paper proposes a channel code for vector perturbation (VP) precoded transmission in multiuser downlink and examines its achievable sum-rate performance. In particular, we first find the most suitable outer convolutional code (CC) for VP precoded transmission under bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding (BICM-ID) by applying a semi-analytic technique based on extrinsic information transfer charts. We then study the achievable sum rate of the proposed BICM-ID-based VP precoded system, and we compare it with the sum capacity of the dirty paper coding (DPC) scheme. Our investigation shows that under perfect channel state information (CSI), the sum rate of the proposed system grows linearly over the number of users, which is the same growth of the DPC. Wireless systems employing frequency-division duplexing (FDD) must use duplexing filters to isolate the sensitive receiver from its own strong transmission. The number of filters in the duplexer is equal to the total number of aggregated transmit and receive bands. These filters are nontunable; therefore, a separate duplexer is required for each combination of operating bands. This paper presents an adaptive duplexer architecture capable of handling more than one receiver channel and tunable over a wide frequency range. The structure uses a combination of a low-isolation device with multiple analog canceling loops controlled by a normalized least mean squares (N-LMS) algorithm to track changes in signal leakage. The control is a multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) problem. This paper shows that modeling the inverse plant can orthogonalize the problem and dramatically improve convergence times with reduced complexity over previous search algorithms. Low-power pseudonoise (PN) pilot signals are proposed to detect and cancel the transmitter noise. Simulations show that 50 dB of isolation is possible with 20-MHz Long-Term Evolution (LTE)-like channels. With the development of new radio (NR) technologies, sidelink (SL) transmission plays a more vital role in supporting low latency, higher reliability vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. Compared with the Long-Term Evolution (LTE), NR V2X aims to support enhanced V2X use cases with more stringent latency and reliability requirements. 3GPP introduces NR V2X distributed resource allocation to fulfill the low latency requirement to reduce the delay caused by requesting transmission resources from gNB. In distributed mode, UEs autonomously select resources without the scheduling from gNB. NR V2X introduces the physical sidelink feedback channel (PSFCH) to enhance transmission reliability. This paper presents the resource allocation mechanism for NR V2X distributed mode. Since the SL feedback channel is a new feature different from LTE V2X, we discuss the potential enhancements on resource allocation utilizing SL feedback channel to improve the reliability. This paper proposes a Receiver Grant-based resource allocation, which allows the receiver to send the grant with the feedback channel. By allowing the transmitter to indicate the pre-selected resources before the end of the previous reservation, the receiver can inform the transmitter about the collided resource selection through the PSFCH. The analytical models for NR V2X distributed mode with the feedback channel are also provided for UE to estimate the collision ratio. The simulation results and the analytical model show that the proposed Receiver (Rx) Grant-based resource allocation improves transmission reliability in terms of collision ratio. Ultra-reliable low-latency communication (uRLLC) emerges as one of the three service categories in fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks, with a potential to support multiple advanced services for latency-sensitive communications. The inherent openness of the wireless environment makes security in 5G unprecedentedly urgent to be addressed. Accordingly, the physical layer security (PLS) technique exploits the randomness characteristics of the wireless channel to fulfill security and confidentiality of information transmission. Different from many current works, which ignored the significance of security in uRLLC, this paper studies secrecy improvement strategy design in uRLLC scenarios. First, we propose suitable performance metrics for evaluating PLS of uRLLC and make a compromise between reliability, latency, and security, while maximizing the network throughput. Next, we identify the key challenging issues for achieving PLS in the context of uRLLC, and discuss the role of cooperative communication and mobility in terms of possible solutions. Dynamic wireless charging (DWC) is one of the most promising and economical power supply solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), which can address range anxiety and downsize the volume of onboard batteries. To solve the null power phenomenon and transfer power pulsation phenomenon in DWC scheme, this paper proposes a new magnetic coupler array to implement continuous charging and reduce the output power variation. The transmitters are placed with a proper interval to eliminate the adjacent coupling and enlarge the coil array’s effective length. ANSYS Maxwell is utilized to demonstrate the finite element analysis (FEA) of the DWC system. A larger receiver coil is designed to significantly mitigate power pulsation and increase the magnetic coupling as the receiver moves along the array. With the well-designed receiver coil, the output power pulsation is $\pm$ 1.52 $\%$. For the high-power capacity scenario, a multilevel connected DC-DC converter is designed on the receiver side to regulate the transfer power. Besides, a passivity-based control (PBC) is developed for the receiving DC-DC converter based on the Euler-Lagrange (EL) model, and a current sharing compensator is employed to balance each phase inductor current. In this paper, we design receivers for filter bank multicarrier-based (FBMC-based) massive MIMO considering practical aspects such as channel estimation and equalization. In particular, we propose a spectrally efficient pilot structure and a channel estimation technique in the uplink to jointly estimate all the users’ channel impulse responses. We mathematically analyze our proposed channel estimator and find the statistics of the channel estimation errors. These statistics are incorporated into our proposed equalizers to deal with the imperfect channel state information (CSI) effect. We revisit the channel equalization problem for FBMC-based massive MIMO, address the shortcomings of the existing equalizers in the literature, and make them more applicable to practical scenarios. The proposed receiver in this paper consists of two stages. In the first stage, a linear combining of the received signals at the base station (BS) antennas provides a coarse channel equalization and removes any multiuser interference. In the second stage, a per subcarrier fractionally spaced equalizer (FSE) takes care of any residual distortion of the channel for the user of interest. We propose an FSE design based on the equivalent channel at the linear combiner output. This enables the applicability of our proposed technique to small and/or distributed antenna setups such as cell-free massive MIMO. In this paper, we present unified performance analysis framework of distributed transmit beamforming (DTB) with residual phase errors which arise from various sources such as imperfect synchronization and channel feedback quantization. More specifically, we derive statistics of the receive signal-to-noise ratio of DTB in Rayleigh and Rician fading channels in the presence of residual phase errors. In the case of residual phase errors caused by channel feedback quantization, we show that the distribution of residual phase errors can be modeled by uniform distribution in Rayleigh fading channels and Gaussian distribution in Rician fading channels. Also, our results reveal that a small number of bits are sufficient for quantized feedback to achieve comparable performance to DTB with perfect channel feedback. In this paper, we analyse a secure transmission scheme using rateless codes (RC) in a delay constrained system. By using RC, secrecy is achieved if the legitimate receiver can accumulate required number of packets before an eavesdropper does. To achieve this, we employ transmit antenna selection (TAS) at the base station to improve the main channel and, artificial noise (AN) is generated by the use of a cooperative jammer to degrade the eavesdropper's channel. Quality of violation probability (QVP) which consists of both the delay violation probability and the intercept probability is used as a performance metric. A closed-form expression for QVP is derived. We show that using TAS for reducing QVP is effective only at lower signal to noise ratio (SNR). We also observe that on increasing number of antennas at the source ($N_{A}$) while using TAS along with AN, QVP decreases for delay sensitive services, whereas, in case of delay tolerant applications, increasing $N_{A}$ is effective at low SNR. GNSS/INS integrated solution has been extensively studied over the past decades. However, its performance relies heavily on environmental conditions and sensor costs. The GNSS positioning can obtain satisfactory performance in the open area. Unfortunately, its accuracy can be severely degraded in a highly urbanized area, due to the notorious multipath effects and none-line-of-sight (NLOS) receptions. As a result, excessive GNSS outliers occur, which causes a huge error in GNSS/INS integration. This paper proposes to apply a fish-eye camera to capture the sky view image to further classify the NLOS and line-of-sight (LOS) measurements. In addition, the raw INS and GNSS measurements are tightly integrated using a state-of-the-art probabilistic factor graph model. Instead of excluding the NLOS receptions, this paper makes use of both the NLOS and LOS measurements by treating them with different weightings. Experiments conducted in typical urban canyons of Hong Kong showed that the proposed method could effectively mitigate the effects of GNSS outliers, and an improved accuracy of GNSS/INS integration was obtained, when compared with the conventional GNSS/INS integration. In this paper, we investigate the precoding scheme for multiple-input multiple-output multiple antennas eavesdropper (MIMOME) channels under the constraint of finite-alphabet inputs to ensure secure transmission between the source and the destination in the presence of an eavesdropper. With finite-alphabet inputs, there are no closed-form solutions for mutual information (MI) and its gradient-minimum mean-square error (MMSE) matrix. Therefore traditional precoding schemes based on direct calculation of MI and MMSE matrix through numerical integration involve prohibitive computational burden. To address this problem, this paper first derives asymptotically optimal lower bounds of MI and ergodic MI with which the computational complexity can be significantly reduced compared with the direct computation of MI. With the derived lower bounds, a low-complexity precoding scheme is proposed to maximize the secrecy rate, wherein a gradient descent based algorithm is used to obtain the precoding result. In the low and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regions, we demonstrate that the proposed precoding scheme gives the same result as directly maximizing the secrecy rate, which indicates that the proposed low-complexity precoding scheme is asymptotically optimal. In this paper, we propose an ergodic interference alignment (IA) method for interference elimination in spectrum sharing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar and multi-user MIMO communication systems. In existing ergodic IA methods, the channel state information (CSI) is generally assumed to be constant, but time-varying channels should be considered in practice. Differently, our proposed ergodic IA allows to time-varying and/or frequency selective channels for spectrum sharing radar-communication systems. The essence is equivalent to design a simple transmit beamforming, which helps to find a pair of desired complementary channels easily without long-time system delay, therefore, the interferences can be effectively cancelled. The proposed method is evaluated by generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) and signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) for the radar functionality, while the communication functionality is examined by bit error rate (BER) performance. In multi-user multiple-input–multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems that employ pilot-symbol aided channel estimation, the pilot-to-data power ratio (PDPR) has a large impact on the system performance. In this paper, we consider the problem of setting the PDPR in multi-cell MU-MIMO systems in the presence of channel estimation errors, intercell interference and pilot contamination. To analyze and address this problem, we first develop a model of the multi-cell MU-MIMO system and derive a closed-form expression for the mean squared error of the uplink received data symbols. Building on this result, we then propose two decentralized PDPR-setting algorithms based on game theoretic approaches that are applicable in multi-cell systems. We find that both algorithms converge to a Nash equilibrium and provide performance improvements over systems that do not properly set the PDPR, while they maintain different levels of fairness. In a cognitive radio network (CRN), two nodes have a rendezvous when they tune to the same channel simultaneously. Providing rendezvous guarantee between any pair of nodes is essential because a rendezvous is necessary for communication. Some existing works claim that rendezvous guarantee can be provided by using a dedicated common control channel to negotiate the channel being used. A serious problem of these mechanisms is that a globally available channel may not exist. Some channel hopping protocols try to provide a rendezvous guarantee without using a common control channel. However, these solutions may suffer from a poor number of rendezvous or uneven channel utilization. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed channel hopping protocol: Quorum and Latin square channel hopping (QLCH). The QLCH scheme efficiently provides rendezvous guarantee by utilizing the concept of quorum systems and Latin squares. The former is utilized to guarantee balanced rendezvous among nodes, whereas the latter is adopted to share the rendezvous among channels. QLCH efficiently provides fast rendezvous guarantee and can cooperate with other channel hopping protocols to enhance network throughput. Analytical and simulation results verify the improvement of QLCH. For example, when there are 30 flows using 11 channels in a CRN, the achieved time to rendezvous of QLCH is 9.84 times lower than that of the existing protocol SYNC-ETCH, whereas the achieved network throughput of QLCH is 362% higher than that of the existing protocol, i.e., Quorum-based channel hopping (L-QCH). In this paper, the throughput maximization of millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) ultradense networks (UDN) using dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) is considered. Most of the existing works only allow temporal-domain access and admit at most one user at each time slot, resulting in significant underutilization of spectrum resource, which will be less attractive to mm-wave UDN applications. A generalized temporal-spatial sharing scheme is proposed in this paper for UDN by exploiting the location information of incumbent devices, where multiple users are allowed to access each channel simultaneously via spatial separations. For distributed applications, the global information exchange among secondary users (SU) tends to be impractical, given the unaffordable signaling overhead and latency. Thus, a noncooperative game with fine-grained two-dimensional reuse is formulated, which leads to a more efficient access strategy. It is then proved to be an ordinary potential game (OPG), which guarantees the existence of the strategy Nash equilibrium (NE). Finally, an improved decentralized reinforcement learning algorithm is designed, with which SUs can learn from wireless environments and adapt toward an NE point, relying on the individual observation and the historical action reward (rather than the global information exchanging). High-speed and low-latency communications are one of the major requirements for connected vehicle environments. Safety messages in vehicular networks must arrive on time for each vehicle, and the optimization of driving paths also strongly depends on low-latency traffic information. To comply with the demands, a base station take important roles to provide a short service delay for the vehicles, even at the expense of performance. The relationship between delay time and decoding performance at receiver sides in physical layers can be explained by the performance/complexity tradeoff as follows. To achieve better performance in terms of the minimization of word error rates in decoding, the receiver usually requires higher complexity, which results in larger delays. We analyze this tradeoff based on the receiver queue model. This paper proposes a novel algorithm to adaptively select one of receiver candidates under the constraint of queue stability so as not to degrade low-latency communications. As the conventional spatial modulation (SM) system lacks an efficient downlink multiple access scheme, this paper proposes a novel downlink nonorthogonal multiple access aided multiple-input multiple-output SM system with finite alphabet inputs. Mutual information (MI) is used to characterize the system's achievable spectral efficiency (SE). Because the MI lacks a closed-form formulation, in this paper we propose a computational-efficient lower bound to provide an approximation to the simulated MI. Besides, preprocessing is also designed at the receiver to mitigate the detrimental effect of channel correlation, which leads to striking a higher SE performance. Accurate and globally referenced global navigation satellite system (GNSS) based vehicular positioning can be achieved in outlier-free open areas. However, the performance of GNSS can be significantly degraded by outlier measurements, such as multipath effects and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) receptions arising from signal reflections of buildings. Inspired by the advantage of batch historical data in resisting outlier measurements, in this paper, we propose a graduated non-convexity factor graph optimization (FGO-GNC) to improve the GNSS positioning performance, where the impact of GNSS outliers is mitigated by estimating the optimal weightings of GNSS measurements. Different from the existing local solutions, the proposed FGO-GNC employs the non-convex Geman McClure (GM) function to globally estimate the weightings of GNSS measurements via a coarse-to-fine relaxation. Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems significantly increase the network throughput and coverage probability for short-packet communications. In this paper, a tight lower bound on the average achievable rate of MIMO short-packet communication systems is theoretically derived, considering flat uncorrelated Rayleigh fading MIMO channels. The derivations are based on the eigenvalue analysis of a Wishart matrix and Jensen's inequality. Given the actual transmission rate, a tight approximation on the average block error rate (BLER) of MIMO short-packet communication systems is also provided, which is based on the moment generating function and inverse Laplace transform. Numerical results demonstrate that both our theoretically derived analytical average achievable rate lower bound and approximate average BLER are almost the same as the simulation results. This paper investigates distributed beamforming networks composed of multiple groups of transmitters where each group consists of two transmitters. The goal is to jointly optimize the phase components at the transmitters and the orientation angles of the groups that maximize the radiated energy over an angular sector containing an adversary while placing a null towards the client in order not to obfuscate the client. Since the optimization problem is non-convex, it is intractable to obtain the optimal solution in closed-form. To this end, we propose a non-iterative closed-form solution by adopting a group-wise nullforming approach where each group independently creates a null to the client. Interference alignment (IA) is a precoding technique that aligns interfering signals at receivers. It is known that IA achieves the maximum degrees of freedom over an interference channel under ideal assumptions. The real-world performance of IA depends on a range of practical issues, such as imperfect synchronization, channel estimation, and feedback. Practical issues have been studied in simulations and prototypes, but fully distributed operation of IA network nodes has not been considered. In this paper, we present the first investigation of real-time IA performance on a fully distributed 2 $\times$ 2 multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) prototype system with three physically independent user pairs. Over-the-air algorithms for time and frequency synchronization, as well as analog feedback, are studied and implemented. Sum rates are illustrated as a function of complexity and accuracy of different alignment, synchronization, and feedback algorithms. Corresponding tradeoffs are evaluated using an iterative IA method, the injection of residual frequency offset into synchronization, and analog versus quantization-based limited feedback approaches. We demonstrate that, while considering all possible error sources in estimation, synchronization, and feedback, the theoretical multiplexing gain of IA can be reached in practical systems with a constant sum rate loss that remains within 5 bits/Hz/s compared with an ideal simulation. Currently, proper vehicle head restraint (HR) positioning requires manual adjustment and knowledge on the part of the occupant. By removing the requirement for manual adjustment, an HR positioning system that autonomously moves and adapts the HR position properly to any seated occupant could serve to reduce the social and personal costs of whiplash injuries, as compared with existing manual systems. To achieve this, quantification of the occupant's head position relative to the HR is required. In a previous paper, a rectangular capacitive proximity-sensing array for the purpose of occupant head position quantification was studied. Here, a range-maximized sensor was first designed to reduce electrostatic and environmental disturbances. To achieve this, numerical modeling and laboratory experiments were conducted, and then, a design process for an interdigitated comb-shaped sensor geometry was proposed to maximize the sensing range of the sensor. The effects of temperature and humidity on the sensor were also evaluated and compensated. A novel capacitive proximity-sensing array was then designed, which had the minimum number of the aforementioned comb-shaped sensors necessary for accurately estimating the 3-D position of an occupant's head in near real time. This estimation was carried out using a nonparametric neural network. The above capacitive array was then integrated and fully contained in a customized HR as part of a vehicle seat safety system. The system was tested and demonstrated that such a head position sensing methodology would be capable of autonomously positioning an HR to meet the guidelines of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This paper investigates the capacity of radio channels when iterative channel estimation, data detection, and decoding are employed. Knowing the capacity gain from iterative detection versus purely pilot-based channel estimation helps a designer compare the performance of an iterative receiver against a noniterative receiver and select the best balance between performance and cost. A bound is put on the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) channel estimation error, based on which a bound on the capacity is obtained. The attainable capacity is related to the channel estimation error of the receiver. The bounds take into account the uncertainty in symbol detection on channel estimation and incorporate the effect of channel estimation error on channel capacity. The interaction between the symbol detector and the decoder is analytically characterized and depicted in an extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart, where a bound on the detector curve is found. With optimal LMMSE pilot-based channel estimation, the results of this paper demonstrate that iterative channel estimation provides insignificant capacity advantage at fading rates below 1% of the symbol rate, although a computational-cost gain is still available. In this paper, we propose a channel transformation technique for joint decoding of desired and interfering signals in an interference alignment scenario consisting of $K$ users with multiple antennas. Our technique, i.e., pseudo-lattice treatment, is based on the compute-and-forward framework. Our technique can be implemented to provide decoding gains with low complexity for subspace aligned interference signals.
