The world environment is continuously changing due to various factors that include technological advancements, climate change, economic growth, and population increases. These factors contribute to greater demand for food, energy, and water resources. Policymakers need to strategize and plan accordingly to determine how to preserve the environment due to rising temperatures, water sacristy and increased demand for food resources while also efficiently managing these resources in order to meet sustainable goals. Policymakers are tasked with reducing carbon emissions, as well as increasing resource utilization efficiently all while keeping costs down. An approach known as food-energywater (FEW) nexus is developed in order to promote sustainable development and synergy between resources in the nexus. The adoption of this FEW nexus framework can contribute to a greater understanding between the resources and their connections and thus allow us the evaluation of tradeoffs that exist between the resources and optimize the framework where informed decisions that will aid in achieving sustainability goals (societal, economic, and environmental can be achieved. In this paper, we apply and study the impact of the FEW on a case study in Florida that includes a number of urban farms. The urban farms were developed with the objective of contributing fresh food supply to the local community. The inhabitants of the local community belong to food deserts, where inhabitants are low-income, low-mobility, and do not have access to fresh food within ten miles. Each of the urban farms belongs to a community-scale microgrid (MG) which provides electricity for the local community and the electricity is generated from solar energy. The MG's objective is to meet environmental sustainability goals by contributing fewer carbon emissions compared to traditional energy sources such as coal, crude oil, or natural gas. In addition, solar energy is a viable option due to the amount of solar radiation in the state of Florida. In this paper, the impacts of the proposed framework (urban farms & microgrids) through an analysis of societal, economic, and environmental sustainability measures are investigated. For societal sustainability measurements, the impact of the framework on food security of the local inhabitants are studied. For environmental sustainability, the impact of carbon emissions and the carbon emissions that are avoided due to the use of solar energy are analyzed. Finally, in terms of economic sustainability, the costs of the solar energy infrastructure, as well as possible costs or profits due to lack of electricity production or excess production are estimated. The paper employs an agent-based modeling (ABM) approach to study the interactions between agents in the framework (consumers, urban farms, microgrids) and this will allow to gain a greater understanding of the synergies and tradeoffs that occur in a FEW nexus for the case study considered. This paper focuses on design, implementation and testing of a wireless control system of Unmanned Solar-Powered Aerial Vehicle. The prototype is designed using BLDC Motors and Mono Crystalline Solar Panels. The project uses Arduino Uno and RF Controller to allow the user to easily control quadcopter with the transmitter. This study aims to determine the involvement and benefits that can be obtained by students when participating in MBKM. The MKBM discussed was the MBKM Village Community Service Program, Narotama University, in particular the MBKM program which contributes to Renewable Energy for Better Village Environment. The research uses a quantitative approach. The populations in this study were all active Narotama University students, which amounted to 1633 students. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and crosstab analysis. Crosstab is an analytical method that presents two different variables into one matrix. Crosstab research shows tabulations that include rows and columns. The results showed that Narotama University students had actively participated in the MBKM Building a Village activity. Student interest in this program is high and students are willing to recommend the MBKM program to other fellow students. The MBKM activities that have been followed have been able to improve the competencies and skills needed by students later when they graduate and enter the world of work. In this study, sustainability ranking is done for four predominant non-combustible renewable energy sources i.e., wind, solar, geothermal, and hydro. There are various indicators used to assess power generation technologies. They include price/cost of generated electricity, full lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions, availability of renewable sources, energy conversion efficiency, land use requirements, water consumption and social and economic impacts. The cost of electricity, greenhouse gas emissions and the efficiency of electricity generation have a wide range for each technology option because of wide range of available technology options and varied geographical dependence. The social impacts of energy sources are qualitatively based on the major individual impacts from literature. Renewable energy technologies were then ranked against each indicator assuming that indicators have equal importance for sustainable development. The study shows that wind power is the most sustainable, followed by hydropower, photovoltaic and then geothermal energy sources. Designing a food-energy-water (FEW) nexus framework is critical for the development of future sustainable cities, as well as addressing global concerns of increased demand for natural resources (food, energy and, water). A case study consisting of seven Urban Farms in South Florida is established, with the main objective of providing fresh produce to the local community. Each Urban Farm belongs to a community-scale microgrid system that generates electricity from renewable sources (solar, wind, biomass), and provides electricity to the urban farm and surrounding community buildings. Additionally, a micro-supply chain is established among the seven farms to increase food availability for the local community, combating food deserts and reducing food waste. Following the establishment of a FEW nexus framework, a mathematical programming model is introduced to design and optimize the parameters within the framework. Data inputs used for the model are obtained from the results of a previously developed agent-based model (ABM). The objective of the mathematical programming model is to address the supply and demand balance within the FEW network, and depending on the supply-demand trend, will optimally match supply and demand over time, using indicators such as cost and carbon footprints. In addition, solving the model identifies optimal capacities for renewable energy sources (solar, wind, biomass), as well as the scheduling of the unit commitment and micro supply chain. The results will provide valuable insight into the design of a FEW nexus framework, as well as the interactions that occur between food, energy, and water systems, and allows for the analysis of different policy scenarios and their implications. Once solved, the model provided results for a period of 264 hours, determining optimal operational decisions for power production, electricity for irrigation, and consumption of water that is needed for a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, and for irrigation of crops. The results of the micro supply chain led to the transport of 78,657kg between four farms, and the remaining food waste was converted into biomass energy. The optimal capacities of renewable energy technologies were found, solar with a total capacity of 4,400 kW, and wind with a total capacity of 7,000 kW. The optimal capacity of battery storage systems at each microgrid belonging to each urban farm was found, and this was based on electricity demands, as well as electricity generation capacities. The results of the mathematical programming model led to the optimal design of an urban FEW framework, determining the optimal capacities of renewable energy technologies, battery storage systems, and optimal operation conditions of the FEW nexus. The COVID-19 pandemic impacts exceed the world's imagination to go beyond health-related issues to impact every single aspect of our lives, including how we produce and consume energy daily. This research aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on renewable and non-renewable energy production. The study selects the United States (U.S.) due to 2020 energy data readiness at the time of the study. The U.S. energy data is mainly collected from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) from January to July 2018 to 2020, and August 2019 and 2020. The data is analysed by thoroughly studying the energy value variations month-by-month. The study outcomes show that, as a result of the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions on people's mobility and activities, non-renewable energy has a drastic decline, while renewable energy has significant growth. The residential sector's energy consumption notably increases with the lockdown's imposition, while the other sectors decrease. The prices of fossil fuels are slightly affected by the pandemic, where the maximum drop in prices is approximately $24.64 for petroleum liquids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current state and the future potentials of renewable energy have increased widely globally to reduce the usage of other resources such as fossil fuel, which affect the environment. NEOM city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is a case where renewable energy will count for 100% of its energy consumption. Solar energy will play a prominent role in NEOM city. This project aims to present a design and simulation of a standalone photovoltaic (PV) system for a mosque located in NEOM city to meet the people's need for electricity. The system harvests solar energy and converts it into electrical energy to cover the electrical power needed for a typical mosque in NEOM. The design and simulation have been implemented using PVsyst software, powerful software for designing, simulating and generating PV systems reports. The designed standalone PV system could produce yearly electrical energy of 300 MWh.
