This research pointed out a methodology for selecting flowing items by optical sensors following each object during its movement, recording changes in optical properties and recognizing the class of each object. The possibility of distinguishing two metals was proven as a function of selective response to illumination with different wavelengths. The prediction of the trajectory of an object was assessed by a procedure that calculates the position of an object after leaving the field of vision. A ray-tracing software was produced and tested by an experimental phase. The methodology for object recognition and trajectory prediction was set-up and verified.
