Mucormycosis is an opportunistic invasive fungal infection, recently been detected in Covid-19 due to several underlying conditions. Otologic involvement in such patients though exceptional, should not be simply ignored even when presented without any clinical signs or symptoms. This report manifests the need of evaluating otologic involvement in post-covid mucormycosis.

In India, newborn hearing screening programs have been implemented as a part of research studies since early 1970s. Amongst the previously reported programs most are from the southern region and very few are from the west and the northern region of the country. There is a lack of evidence of such program in other region of the country. 1. To study the outcome, experience, and challenges faced during the implementation of the universal newborn hearing screening program in a medical college set up of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. 2. To determine the prevalence of hearing impairment with a two tier screening protocol with Otoacoustic emission and Auditory Brainstem Response. The Prospective Non randomised study was carried out between December 2017 and December 2019. A total of 1200 neonates delivered at the medical college, Raipur were screened using the two tier screening protocol. In our study, the prevalence of hearing loss was 2 per 1000 live births for bilateral hearing loss and 1 per 1000 live births for unilateral hearing loss. Implementing universal newborn screening in a vast country like India is a challenging task because of a high birth rate, diverse socio-economic and cultural background with limited resources. Though several hospitals and clinics have implemented the UNHS program, yet there is a dearth of literature regarding the program outcome, success, challenges, and lessons learnt. Therefore best practices of such evolved programs should be in public domain.

Neuroauditory-toxicity should always be borne in mind prior to treatment of severe conditions like cerebral-malaria and due attention should be paid to auditory monitoring. Artemisinin-based combination therapy is the best available treatment for cerebral malaria however its attribution to hearing loss remains undetermined. This report manifests ototoxic effect of artemisinin.

Effective management of naso orbito ethmoidal fractures involves both functional and esthetic correction. While functional correction is routinely achieved, in our experience, most secondary deformities resulted from inadequate nasal bridge projection. We hereby suggest a simple technique to stabilize the nasal bridge after mild overcorrection thereby improving the esthetic outcome in naso orbito ethmoidal fractures.

Invasive aspergillosis usually affects immune-compromised patients and is common in diabetics. Proptosis, visual loss and ophthalmoplegia due to intra-orbital extension are common presentations. Three out of five patients in our series were immune-compromised. All the patients had visual loss and three patients presented with unilateral blindness. Three patients were treated by surgical debridement followed by Amphotericin B therapy. Two patients who had intra-cranial extension of the disease died during the treatment. Only one patient had improvement in vision following the treatment. High index of suspicion in immune-compromised patients, early diagnosis and prompt aggressive treatment is required to achieve clinical cure.
