Objective: The purpose of this study was to establish normative data of Evaluation Tool for Children Handwriting (ETCH-M) for Chennai children. Method: Six hundred (n= 600) children, aged 6 to 10 years (mean age = 7.55 years ± 1.11 years) were included through convenience sampling from normal school located in the North Chennai, South Chennai and Central Chennai in order to avert geographical variation. ETCH-M was administered individually to assess handwriting speed and legibility. Results: It shows that there is statistically significant difference between the age groups on the performance of ETCH - M (F=5.9,pd"0.001; F=14.57, pd"0.001; F=2.9,pd"0.05 for letter legibility, word legibility and numerical legibility respectively). There is statistically significant difference between the age groups on the performance of ETCH-M for speed in Near Point Copying and Far Point Copying. This depicts that as the age increases the children handwriting legibility and speed also increases. Conclusion: The normative data obtained from this study can be used as cut-off score for screening the children with handwriting difficulties and it can be used as assessment tool as well as outcome measures. Objective This study examined the reliability and validity of the Gravitational Insecurity (GI) Assessment (Revised Version) among Indian children. Method The GI Assessment consists of nine items rated on two behavioral categories - Emotional Responses (ER) and Postural Responses (PR). Participants were 28 children with GI, 5-10 years of age, and a matched group of typically developing children. Results Discriminant analysis results found that both the behavioral categories (F(1, 54)=1346.09, ë =0.039;F(1, 54)=357.89, ë =0.131) and all the nine items correctly classified the two groups at 100% level. A stepwise discriminant analysis revealed that the Emotional Response category classified GI children at 96.4% and the Postural Response category classified GI children at 100% from typically developing children Conclusion The GI assessment is a reliable and valid measure for identifying children with Gravitational Insecurity. Objective To find out the prevalence rate of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) at Kattankulathur among 5 - 10 years of age group.Method Two hundred and ninety one subjects (Mean age = 7.5 years ,S.D = 1.39) participated in this study. The DevelopmentalCoordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ) was distributed to parents and filled Questionnaires were collected. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics.Results Four children were screened as Developmental Coordination Disorder. It shows that the prevalence rate was 1.37%. DCD was more prevalent in boys than girls.Conclusion The study concluded that there is prevailing (Prevalence rate=1.37%) of Developmental Coordination Disorder among the age group of 5-10 years at Kattankulathur. The prevalence of the disorder suggests a need for program to educate parents,caretakers, teachers and professionals about DCD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
