The synthesis and structural, photophysical, electrochemical and electroluminescent properties of a novel class of trifunctional Pt(II) cyclometalated complexes are described in which the hole-transporting triarylamine, electron-transporting oxadiazole and electroluminescent metal components are integrated into a single molecule. The management of the relative electroluminescent (EL) intensities of the singlet and triplet excitons is shown to be a good tool for making efficient single-dopant white organic light-emitting devices (WOLEDs).

A series of cationic bis-cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes are synthesized and their electrochemical, photophysical, electroluminescent properties are studied. The complexes are found to be luminescent both in a fluid solution and as neat solids at 298 K, while single-layer electroluminescent devices that give blue, green, and red electroluminescence are also fabricated.

A new series of Os(II) diimine complexes with the general formula [Os(N^N)(CO)2I2] N^N=2,2'-bipyidine (bpy), 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'- bipyidine, 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline, 2-(2'-pyridyl)-benzoxazole and 5-tert-butyl-2-(2'-pyridyl)benzoxazole were synthesized and characterized. The potential to serve as a phosphor for organic light emitting diodes were evaluted by examing their electroluminescent performances.

Synthesis of a terpyridine ruthenium (II) complex containing a substituted and an unsubstituted terpyridine ligand is done and its luminescence properties are studied in a solid-state single-layer light-emitting electrochemical cell. The obtained devices emitted light of a very deep red colour at low external applied bias.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of a series of ruthenium(II) diimine complexes with appended crown ethers derived from 1,10-phenanthroline is analyzed by the annihilation route/coreactant schemes. The results have shown that the ECL of the complex can be increased by adding some alkaline-earth and transition-metal ions.

The synthesis and characterization of two novel Re(I) complexes containing the electron-transporting moiety 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole and the hole-transporting moiety carbazole is presented. The results have shown that the introduction of carbazole group into the ligand has improved the performance of the organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Di- and tetranuclear 2,6-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)pyridine (H2L) metal complexes Cu2(L)2(py)2, Cu4-(L)4(DMF), and Zn(L)(py)4 are synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Cu2(L)2(py)2 is a dinuclear complex, and Cu4-(L)4(DMF), and Zn(L)(py)4 are tetranuclear complexes with four M(II) centers and four L ligands resulting in three four-membered M2(mu-O)2 rings.
