A series of new luminescent cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes functionalized with various substituted styryl groups on the cyclometallating ligand [Pt(C-ppy-4-styryl-R)(O-(O)CCR'CHCR'C(O))] (ppy-4-styryl-R = E-4(4-(R)styryl-2-phenylpyridine) (3, R'-Me(acac); 4, R'='Bu (dpm); R=H, OMe, NEI 2, NO2)) were synthesized. Results reveal the presence of the styryl -CH=CH-double bond in all the complexes has a direct influence on their emissive properties.

Results reveal that a metal-based electron in the d(sub)pi orbitals for the title complex at all temperatures. The change in ground state of these low-spin ferric chlorins is not observed when phosphine ligands are used.

A study on phosphonite complexes of ferric porphyrins to get an insight into the electronic structure of low-spin hemoproteins is presented. NMR, EPR and Mossbauer spectroscopic analysis were done on ((PPh(OMe)2)2Fe(TPP))CF3SO3 and ((PPh(OEt)2)2Fe(TPP))CF3SO3. X-ray studies have also been done on ((PPh(OMe)2)2Fe(T(p-Me)PP))CF3SO3 and ((PPh(OEt)2)2Fe(T(p-Me)PP))CF3SO3, with (T(p-Me)PP = tetrakis(p-methylphenyl)porphyrinato). Results show that the electron structure contributes to the ruffling of the porphyrin ring in bis-phosphonite complexes.

Stoichiometric oxidation of ruthenium(II) carbonyl porphyrins results in the formation of optically active dioxoruthenium. Analysis of oxidation reactions of racemic phosphines show that during oxygen-atom transfer no racemization and chiral recognition occurs but inverted selectivity is produced after the oxidation process. X-ray crystallographic analysis of Ru(CO) complex of alpha,beta,alpha,beta isomer reveals that the methoxy group of the chiral pickets is located above the porphyrin plane.

The preparation and X-ray structure of the complex Fe(TPP)-(OP(H)(OMe)(Ph))2ClO4 are described. The new high-spin six-coordinate ferric porphyrin was prepared by the reaction of phenylphosphinic methyl ester and (meso-tetraphenylporphinato)iron(III) perchlorate. An analysis of its structure reveals that the large high-spin iron(III) atom is in the middle of the heme plane with a radial expansion of the porphinato core.

The title compound [[Fe.sup.II][(L).sub.2][[Cl[O.sub.4]].sub.2].[C.sub.7][H.sub.8] (L = 2-[3-(2'-pyridyl)pyrazol-1-ylmethyl]pyridine) is isolated while attempting to grow single crystals of the spin-transition compound [[[Fe.sup.II][(L).sub.2]][[Cl[O.sub.4]].sub.2]. The antagonistic effects of interactions and disorder are discussed by using a two-level cooperative mean-field approach that has included a distribution of barrier energies at the microscopic scale.

The synthesis of alkynyl ruthenium colorimetric sensors whose receptors contains thiazolidinedione, rhodanine or barbituric heads as recognition centers for anions is reported. The results have rationalized the long-range electronic communication as a main characteristic of the alkynyl ruthenium species and as a key to improve the selectivity of alkynyl ruthenium-based sensors toward anions.

A series of four new covalently bonded charge-transfer molecular hybrids were synthesized and characterized. These hybrid complexes consist of an organometallic acceptor fragment and an inorganic donor group connected by an [eta]-conjugated aryldiazenido spacer in a [mu]-[eta.sup.6]:[eta.sup.1] mode.

A series of five new tert-butyl-[tris(3-hydrocarbylpyrazol-1-yl)borate ligands [t-Bu[Tp.sup.R].sup.-] (R=H, Me, i-Pr, t-Bu, Ph), which were isolated both as their lithium and thallium salts are synthesized and characterized. An analysis of structure of the crystals show that they are composed of discrete molecular units with the central Fe(III) ion in an almost perfectly octahedral coordination to six nitrogen atoms.

Research has been conducted on iron chlorin complexes. The authors report the synthesis and characterization of these complexes, and demonstrate that porphyrinate ring X-ray structures are weakly distorted.
