Abstract

A new porphyrin-based microporous MOF, {Mn(II)0.5[Mn(II)4Cl(Mn(III)Cl-ttzpp)2(H2O)4]}·(DEF)20·(CH3OH)18·(H2O)12 (UTSA-57), has been constructed from {5,10,15,20-tetrakis[4-(2,3,4,5-tetrazolyl)phenyl]porphyrinato} manganese(III) chloride as the metalloligand. The MOF adopts the rare scu topology with one-dimensional square nanotube-like channels of about 20 Å. UTSA-57a exhibits permanent porosity and displays moderately high performance for C2H2/CH4 separation at room temperature.

Abstract

Three isostructural interwoven 3,4-connected mesoporous metal–organic frameworks of pto-a topology (UTSA-28-Cu, UTSA-28-Zn, and UTSA-28-Mn) were synthesized and structurally characterized. Because of their metastable nature, their gas sorption properties are highly dependent on the metal ions and activation profiles. The most stable, UTSA-28a-Cu, exhibits promising gas storage and separation capacities.

Abstract

We demonstrate how a bioinspired synthetic approach can help organic linkers distinguish between different types of metal centers in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Modification of an organic building unit with methyl groups enables the unit to selectively coordinate to one of the two metal sites present in the MOFs. We report four new porphyrin-based, pillared-paddlewheel frameworks: PPF-11-Zn/Zn, -Co/Co, -Mn/Zn, and -Fe/Zn, where the first and second metals indicate the metal center for the porphyrin core and paddlewheel cluster, respectively. These compounds exhibit 3D MOFs in which 2D layers are pillared by a sterically controlled bipyridine, leaving the metal centers inside the porphyrin structurally unconnected.

Abstract

A new magnesium metal-organic framework (MOF) based on an asymmetrical ligand, biphenyl-3,4',5-tricarboxylate (H(3)BPT), has been synthesized and structurally characterized. MOF Mg(3)(BPT)(2)(H(2)O)(4) (1) consists of 1D hexagonal nanotube-like channels and exhibits pronounced hydrogen-sorption hysteresis at medium pressure.
