Abstract

Reactions of manganese oxides of various compositions with sulfuric acid solutions have been studied by kinetic and electrochemical methods. The surface composition of the manganese oxides has been shown to vary during the dissolution process. We present mathematical dependences of the dissolution rate on kinetic parameters of the electrolyte solution for the oxides of various compositions and interpret the behavior of the manganese oxide with various compositions during dissolution in sulfuric acid solutions of various concentrations. Abstract

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with embedded atom method many-particle potentials are used to study Al solute coagulation in supersaturated Pb-Al solutions and to assess the process kinetics as a function of solute concentration and temperature. Coagulation proceeds through the growth of solute clusters as a result of consecutive attachment of separate solute atoms and small clusters to larger clusters. The coagulation rate is a weak function of temperature, suggesting that the process is not thermally activated. The forming aluminum clusters have an amorphous structure. The simulation time used (on the order of several million MD time steps, or ∼10−9 s) is insufficient for spontaneous crystallization of the amorphous aluminum clusters.
