This article focuses on the Electrochemical Society meeting held in Los Angeles, California. The first symposium of the Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry Division focused on Durability and Reliability of Low-Temperature Fuel Cells and Fuel Cell Systems. This symposium presented Outstanding Student Paper Awards to students of various universities of the United States. For example, Vishal Mittal of the University of Connecticut got the award for his paper entitled, "Factors Accelerating Membrane Degradation Rate and the Underlying Degradation Mechanism in PEMFC." In this paper, experiments were performed to elucidate the factors and conditions important for photoelectromagnetic degradation.

Information on several topics discussed at the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) symposium is presented. The event was attended by over 370 people who have contributed talks and posters. The symposium of five days includes activities like parallel sessions focused on fuel cell systems, cell stack and component hardware, durability, and direct fuel cells. Moreover, $500 were awarded to outstanding students on the field of electrochemical including Kevin Gallagher and Shirlaine Koh.

This article focuses on the Electrochemical Society's 204th meeting held at Orlando, Florida. Attendees had the opportunity to choose from 1,491 technical papers on a broad range of topics. In addition to the technical papers, four short courses were held: Basics of Cleaning Processes for Integrated Circuit Manufacturing, taught by K. Reinhardt, J. Butterbaugh, J. Farber, and R. Small; Battery Design and Simulation, taught by R. Spotnitz; Impedance Spectroscopy: Theory and Applications, taught by M. E. Orazem; and Principles of PEM Fuel Cell Engineering I: Water Management and Flow Field Plate Design, taught by E. Stuve.

This article presents 2003 annual report of Electrochemical Society (ECS). With 4,430 presentations, the Society's two meetings in 2003 combined drew the largest number of papers ever scheduled. The two meetings also drew the largest number of attendees ever: 4,618. At 2,936, the spring 2003 meeting in Paris alone drew the single largest number of attendees for a single, non-jointly sponsored ECS meeting. The fall 2003 meeting was held in Orlando, Florida, a new meeting destination for ECS. Many attendees brought their families to enjoy Disney World and the other Orlando attractions during the meeting week.

Several of the Electrochemical Society's Divisions offer travel assistance to students presenting papers at Society meetings. These travel grants are intended to aid students in, attending the meeting. To be eligible for a grant, applicants must be scheduled to present a paper in a symposium or session sponsored or cosponsored by the Division to which the application is made. To apply for travel support, please complete the Student Travel Grant form below, return it with a letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor, and a copy of the meeting abstract.

Information about several papers discussed at a meeting sponsored by the Electrochemical Society on technical journals held in 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C.) is presented. Topics include the history on the partnership between Dow Co. and ECS; the importance for a sustainable, long term supply of energy; and the importance of electrochemical technology in energy storage. The meeting featured several scientist and engineers including William F. Banholzer.

The article presents highlights of the 2004 Joint International Meeting of the society "ECS' in Honolulu, Hawaii, during October 3-8, 2004. Meeting attendees quickly adopted the spirit of the island with Hawaiian shirts or other garb, sandals, and an unhurried approach as they moved about meeting rooms in hallways open to the fresh ocean air. The meeting marked the 206th gathering for the Society, and was co-sponsored by a very gracious partner, The Electrochemical Society of Japan. Over 2,643 papers were presented in 46 symposia, with many sessions running on Sunday and Friday.

The article presents information on the new publication "ECS Transactions (ECST)." ECST will publish one volume for each meeting of the Electrochemical Society (ECS) and each volume will contain many issues, which will include a collection of papers from a symposium. ECS also offers conference and symposium organizers the ability to produce a first-run, case-bound edition of an issue. The first case-bound issues from ECST will be published in time for the ECS fall meeting in Los Angeles in October 2005. ECS Transactions can also provide ECS Divisions with a source of revenue, which is used to fund awards, student memberships, travel grants, and honoraria for keynote speakers; and help to build the individual symposia.

The 12th International Meeting on Lithium Batteries, IMLB-12, was held June 27 to July 3, 2004 at the Nara Centennial Hall in Nara, Japan. This meeting, organized by Electrochemical Society, was the 12th edition of the well-established conference series on lithium battery research and technology. Over 700 participants, the largest contingent yet, from academic and industrial laboratories around the world, attended and contributed to the scientific program with the presentation of 429 technical papers. Session breaks in between the oral presentations were held in the poster session area, where attendees had another opportunity to see and peruse posters in addition to the poster session time.
