Energy saving in wireless sensor networks is a fundamental issue as most sensor nodes are powered by batteries. The deployment of mobile sinks can alleviate the imbalance of energy consumption among sensor nodes, thereby prolonging the network lifetime. In this paper, we study the energy management problem in sensor networks, using multiple mobile sinks. We first formulate the problem as a novel data collection problem and then propose an efficient algorithm for it. The key challenge in the design of the proposed algorithm is how to balance the workload among mobile sinks and the energy consumption among sensor nodes through the control of the movement of mobile sinks. We finally evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm through experimental simulation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is very promising, which can improve the energy efficiency and the quality of data transmission in the sensor network significantly. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are designed to collect information across a large number of sensor nodes with limited batteries. Therefore, it is important to minimize energy consumption of each node, so as to extend the lifetime of the network. This paper proposes the use of an intelligent WSN communication architecture based on a multiagent system (MAS), to ensure optimal data collection. MAS refers to a group of agents that interact and cooperate to achieve a specific goal. To ensure this objective, we propose the integration of a migrating agent into each node to process data and enhance cooperation between neighboring nodes, while mobile agents (MAs) can be used to reduce data transfer between the nodes and send them to the base station (Sink). The collaboration of these agents generates a simple message that summarizes important information to be transmitted by an MA. To reduce the size of MAs, nodes in the network sectors are grouped in such way that, for each MA, an optimal itinerary is established, using a minimum amount of energy with efficient data aggregation within a minimum time. However, due to the limited resources on a wireless sensor node, structural evaluation ability of the wireless sensor network is also limited, especially for large-scale structures. This paper presents a multi-agent cooperation system based on mobile agent technology for wireless sensor network-based structural health monitoring which deals with the evaluation of large-scale structure. Mobile agent with the signal processing or evaluation algorithm is designed to migrate among different sensor nodes and perform network self-organization, data processing, information fusion, and damage estimation. This method can reduce the request to the sensor nodes and achieve a better monitoring and evaluation performance through multiagent cooperation. The proposed mobile multiagent system is evaluated by a large dimension aerospace aluminum structure monitoring experiment in which strain distribution and joint failure are monitored by different sensors. A mobile agent routing algorithm (MARA) is presented in this paper, and then based on the dual-channel communication model, the two-layer network combination optimization strategy is also proposed. Since this strategy deals with the collision between packets and themulticast suppression in channel competitive process well, the blocking probability of network and the error rate of packet transmission can be cut down by utilizing this strategy. Furthermore, a restore rule for the failure optimal route is presented too. By using this rule, the optimal route can restore quickly in the local of fail nodes and most of the information of original optimal route can be reserved. Compared with other existing algorithms like ant colony optimization-based dynamic energy efficient mobile agent routing algorithm (ADEEMA) and mobile agent-based wireless sensor network (MAWSN), simulation results show that MARA performs better in improving the success rate of packet transmission and cutting down the delay of communication. The success rate of packet transmission is improved 15%. Simultaneously, this algorithm can keep the ant agents away from the nodes with less residual energy in searching for the optimal route. Mobile Agent (MA) technology has been recently proposed in Wireless Sensors Networks (WSNs) literature to answer the scalability problem of client/server model in data fusion applications. Herein we present CBID, a novel algorithm that calculates near-optimal routes for MAs that incrementally fuse the data as they visit the Sensor Nodes (SNs) while also enabling fast updates on the designed itineraries upon changes of network topology. CBID dispatches in parallel a number of MAs that sequentially visit sensor nodes arranged in tree structures and upon visiting an SN with two or more child SNs, the MAs (master MAs) clone of themselves with each clone (slave MA) visiting a tree branch. When all slave MAs return to that SN, they deliver their collected data to the master MA and are then disposed of. This results in a significant reduction of the overall energy expenditure and response time.
