With its ability to store and transport energy without releasing greenhouse gases, hydrogen is considered an important driver for the decarbonisation of energy systems. As future hydrogen import prices from global markets are subject to large uncertainties, it is unclear what impact different hydrogen and derivative import prices will have on the future German energy system. To answer that research question, this paper explores the impact of three different import price scenarios for hydrogen and its derivatives on the German energy system in a climate-neutral setting for Europe in 2045 using three different energy system models. The analysis shows that the quantities of electricity generated as well as the installed capacities for electricity generation and electrolysis increase as the hydrogen import price rises. However, the resulting differences between the import price scenarios vary across the models. This paper carries out a comprehensive analysis on an offshore wind farm equipped with a hybrid storage comprised of hydrogen and battery, from the perspective of economic effectiveness. To rapidly evaluate the system economy, a computationally efficient convex program that takes the nonlinear storage efficiencies into account is provided, which can simultaneously and synergistically optimize the storage sizing and energy management over a long offshore wind cycle. In the analysis, a case study on the optimal configuration and operation of the hybrid storage is thoroughly investigated, answering what the scalings are and how the storage functions in the offshore wind farm. Comparisons to other offshore wind farms with none or only one storage type further demonstrate the advantage of combining hydrogen plant and battery. Influences of the offshore wind electricity price of grid parity and hydrogen price on the system economies, in the terms of total annual cost, net annual profit and hydrogen production cost, are also discussed, revealing sensitivity and dependency of the scalings. Establishing an industrial park-integrated energy system (IN-IES) is an effective way to reduce carbon emission, reduce energy supply cost and improve system flexibility. However, the modeling of hydrogen storage in traditional IN-IES is relatively rough. In order to solve this problem, an IN-IES with hydrogen energy industry chain (HEIC) is proposed in this paper. Hydrogen production, transportation, and storage technologies are applied in HEIC. Firstly, a novel long-term hydrogen storage model considering different time steps is presented. Secondly, hydrogen compressor models considering different pressure ratios are further employed. On this basis, the impact of the HEIC on the planning and operation results of IN-IES is studied. The EU is promoting hydrogen as enabling energy carrier that may account for up to 20% of energy and especially fulfill between 20% and 50% of transportation demands and between 5% and 20% of industrial needs. To ensure the success of this shift, Power-to-Hydrogen and Hydrogen-to-X technologies have attracted significant interest because they transform renewable power directly into green hydrogen, via water electrolysis, which can be stored and transferred more readily than other fuels for several end-uses. The present paper aims to discuss the role of such technologies in the current and future energy systems, with a specific reference to the European scenario. The main energy sectors where hydrogen could play an important role will be discussed, such as transportation, power generation, manufacturing sectors, refining and agriculture, with a focus on potential technological integration and synergies, providing a guideline for industrial players up to 2050 with a discussion about technology maturity by presenting short-term/long-term roadmaps. Hydrogen can be produced from onsite renewable energy, energy from the power grid, or a combination of both. While the cost of grid energy is driven by the energy prices, onsite renewable investments are driven by the levelized cost of renewable energy. Energy prices can widely vary in time and in different locations, potentially having a large impact on the annualized cost of hydrogen (ACOH). Renewable sources can also vary significantly for different locations and seasons. In this paper, we develop a semi-empirical model to find key ACOH locational drivers and trends. The model finds the optimal capacity of the onsite solar and wind generators and the electrolyzer, together with the optimal use of grid energy. Hydrogen is often suggested as a universal fuel that can replace fossil fuels. This paper analyses the feasibility of direct hydrogen utilisation in all energy sectors in a 100% renewable energy system for Europe in 2050 using hour-by-hour energy system analysis. Our results show that using hydrogen for heating purposes has high costs and low energy efficiency. Hydrogen for electricity production is beneficial only in limited quantities to restrict biomass consumption, but increases the system costs due to losses. The transport sector results show that hydrogen is an expensive alternative to liquid e-fuels and electrified transport due to high infrastructure costs and respectively low energy efficiency. The industry sector may benefit from hydrogen to reduce biomass at a lower cost than in the other energy sectors, but electrification and e-methane may be more feasible. For renewable hydrogen to be a significant part of the future decarbonized energy and transportation sectors, a rapid and massive build-out of hydrogen production facilities will be needed. This paper describes a geospatial modeling approach to identifying the optimal locations for renewable hydrogen fuel production throughout the state of California, based on least-cost generation and transport. This is accomplished by (1) estimating and projecting California renewable hydrogen demand scenarios through the year 2050, (2) identifying feedstock locations, (3) excluding areas not suitable for development, and (4) selecting optimal site locations using commercial geospatial modeling software. The findings indicate that there is a need for hundreds of new renewable hydrogen production facilities in the decades preceding the year 2050. Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Electrolysers (ELSs) are considered as pollution-free with enhanced efficiency technology. Hydrogen can be easily produced from different resources like biomass, water electrolysis, natural gas, propane, and methanol. Hydrogen generation from water electrolysis, which is the splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity, can be beneficial when used in combination with variable Renewable Energy (RE) technologies such as solar and wind. When the electricity used for water electrolysis is produced by a variable RE source, the hydrogen stores the unused energy for a later use and can be considered as a renewable fuel and energy resource for the transport and energy sectors. This paper aims to propose a novel graphical model design for the PEM-ELS for hydrogen production based on the electrochemical, thermodynamical and thermal equations. The model under study is experimentally validated using a small-scale laboratory electrolyser. Simulation results, using Matlab-Simulink™, show an adequate parameter agreement with those found experimentally. Therefore, the impact of the different parameters on the electrolyser dynamic performance is introduced and the relevant analytical-experimental comparison is shown. Hydrogen is a key input to industrial processes. In western Canada, there is a significant demand for hydrogen for industrial purposes, both to upgrade bitumen and as a chemical agent. The key driver for this research is the need to assess options for the energy industry to lower its carbon footprint by using hydrogen produced from renewable sources. The environmental impacts associated with hydrogen production through water electrolysis using the electricity generated from a wind power plant are evaluated in this paper. A life cycle assessment was done to determine the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit mass of produced hydrogen by considering the emissions starting from the extraction of wind energy to the production of hydrogen. An uncertainty analysis was conducted to assess the effects of variations of different input parameters on the GHG footprint of hydrogen produced from wind. The total GHG emissions of a wind-based hydrogen production plant are estimated to be 0.68 ± 0.05 kg CO 2 eq./kg H 2 , 65% of which are from the construction of the wind power system. The results are compared with those of conventional fossil fuel-based systems. The overall GHG emissions from wind-based hydrogen production are about 94% lower than those associated with hydrogen production through steam methane reforming (SMR). Natural gas-based hydrogen production emissions are mainly found in the plant operation stage. For wind-to-hydrogen systems, the manufacturing and installation of the systems have significant environmental impacts.
