Green hydrogen production from biomass is an eco-friendly and sustainable solution for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. This paper presents potential green hydrogen production from available biomass resources, including agricultural crops and livestock waste in Kazakhstan in 14 regions. The study explores the potential of biomass-to-hydrogen production in Kazakhstan, including the availability and quality of biomass resources and environmental sustainability. The gasification process is chosen as the most efficient technology for biomass resource consumption to obtain green hydrogen. This is the first study in Kazakhstan contributes assessment of the geographic distribution of available biomass resources in the country. The total amount of green hydrogen production from agricultural waste is 432 tonnes/km2/year. Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, and North Kazakhstan are listed as regions with the highest green hydrogen production potential with an annual 122.2, 71, 57.6, 35.3, 29, and 28.5 tonnes/km2/year, respectively. Annual green hydrogen production from livestock waste is 5262 × 10−6 tonnes/km2/year which equals to 856 tonnes/year. The top three three regions with H 2 production are Turkestan, Almaty and East Kazakhstan regions with 208, 112.5, and 93 tonnes/year, respectively.
