20. The Effect of Printing Temperature on Bonding Quality and Tensile Properties of Fused Deposition Modelling 3d-Printed Parts

Abstract

FDM 3D-printing, is an additive manufacturing technology that is being increasingly adapted in the engineering industry due to its ability to produce complex design at lower costs as the materials are thermoplastic based. Due to the nature of its sequential layer deposition, the bonding quality is highly dependent on the temperature development during printing. In this paper, an experimental investigation was conducted to study the effect of printing temperature on bonding quality with regards to dimensional accuracy and tensile behaviour of the fabricated parts. The test specimens were fabricated using PLA material at different printing temperature ranging from 180°C-240°C at intervals of 10°C. Uniaxial tensile test according to ASTM D638-14 standard was conducted at a strain rate of 1 mm/min and was repeated five times for each variable. Results show that specimens fabricated at higher printing temperature have better tensile properties. The ultimate tensile strength recorded for specimens fabricated at T=240°C and T=180°C were 36.97 MPa and 17.47 MPa respectively. Fracture surfaces were analysed and related with the tensile results to deduce the failure mechanism. The dimensions of the sample at printed different printing temperatures were measured using digital callipers and compared with the designed specification. Specimens printed at T=240°C had the worst dimensional accuracy, with a percentage difference of 10% although it yielded the highest tensile strength. The optimum printing temperature that yielded the best tensile behaviour while maintaining its dimensional accuracy was when T=220°C.

21. Hydrogen Co-Firing Characteristics in a Single Swirl Burner: A Numerical Analysis

Abstract

Hydrogen is gaining traction as an energy carrier in the decarbonisation and net-zero-emissions agenda. Because hydrogen is a clean energy carrier, increasing the percentage of hydrogen in natural gas mixtures aids in the decarbonisation initiatives. Hence, the flame characteristics of the natural gas mixtures, together with hydrogen are explored in the current study through a numerical assessment of a single swirl burner (swirl number, SN 0.78) since the said burner is widely used in gas turbine (GT) combustors. The baseline CFD and experimental cases referred to natural gas compositions primarily composed of methane (CH4). The results reveal that the CFD model can effectively represent the swirling component of the flame as seen in the experiment. A 5% hydrogen addition had virtually no effect on the swirling flame structure, as shown by qualitative evaluation of hydroxyl (OH) behaviour and flame temperature in comparison to the baseline methane flame. Despite this, the addition of hydrogen has increased the OH radical pool during combustion, causing a small change in flame temperature. Overall, the novelty of the current research is the opportunity to fire 5% hydrogen in a CH4-dominated GT combustor without any major retrofitting operations, as the study discovered that 5% hydrogen in a pure CH4 stream has a minor affect. However, more research is needed to properly capture the flame structure and strain for assessing transient-related phenomena like flashback and blow off by increasing the hydrogen proportion and using a higher accuracy turbulence model.

Abstract

The voting system is a set of rules that determine how people’s intentions may be manifest and how decisions can be achieved. Normally, vote papers are placed in the voting box and then will be sorted and calculated manually. But the problem is the use of manpower in calculating the vote manually may lead to error in the counting of votes and it takes a long time to complete the calculation process. For this purpose, an electronic voting machine (EVM) was introduced, where in this work it replace the conventional voting method in which the vote card will be calculated automatically. This paper focusing on implementation of embedded system which will help in the election process, where the Arduino UNO uses as a controller. This system uses a simple counting system based on the detection of black mark on the vote card using infrared (IR) sensor. Then, LCD 16x2 will display the number of votes for the respective candidate and the servo motor will activate to sort the valid and invalid vote card into 2 compartments in the voting box.

Abstract

This research was devoted to a test of the relationship between knowledge about the disease COVID -19 and the personal preventive measures by Pearson correlation and regression analysis. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire distributed in Basra governorate and the number of participants was 1000 individuals. Cronbach Alpha coefficient to ensure the reliability of the was calculated and its value (0.735) indicates the reliability of the research tools. The demographic data and responses of the participants were statistically described and the null hypothesis was tested (there is no effect of knowledge about COVID-19 on people’s commitment with preventive protocol) using the spss program. The Pearson correlation coefficient was found to be 0.6 indicating positive correlation between the test variables. Regression analysis showed that the dependent variable ( Yi3 : Avoid touching the face, nose and eye with unclean hands or after touching surfaces and objects. ) is the most affected one in the personal prevention factors by the variables listed in the disease knowledge factor.

Abstract

A nuclear security system is often developed based on a particular framework. In our case, a nuclear security system is developed based on the big data analytics framework with the purpose of integrating all nuclear security systems within a nuclear facility. Nuclear security can be defined as the prevention and detection of, and response to, theft, sabotage, unauthorized access, illegal transfer, or other malicious acts involving nuclear material, other radioactive substances, or their associated facilities. Whereas, big data analytics is denoted as a new way of collecting, analyzing large amounts of data, finding the appropriate patterns to support decision making, hence improving the action taken in solving the problems. The system-based evaluations methodology is widely used to measure the performance metrics of nuclear security systems. However, the system-based evaluation methodology consumes time and demands a lot of effort because in applying the methodology, a complete nuclear security system that is based on the particular framework needs to be designed, developed, and implemented in the nuclear facilities environment before the performance metrics could be measured.
