Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of brief interventions in reducing violence and alcohol misuse among adolescents in an urban emergency department (ED). Results indicated that such interventions did result in a decreased in the prevention of violence and related consequences.

Abstract

Several programs created to prevent youth violence were described at the 2003 annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. Philadelphia, PA, has a Youth Violence Reduction Project and Chicago public schools have a Cradle to Classroom program. The American Academy of Pediatrics is also developing a violence prevention program that pediatricians can adopt.
