We present new results of measurements of reactor antineutrino flux and spectrum dependence on the distance in the range 6-12 meters from the center of the reactor core at SM-3 reactor (Dimitrovgrad, Russia). Additional measurements were carried out and set of data to perform statistical analysis was almost doubled since the previous report. Using all collected data we performed the model independent analysis on the oscillation parameters $\Delta m^2_{14}$ and $\sin^2(2\theta_{14})$. The method of coherent summation of results of measurements allows us to directly observe the effect of oscillations. We observed an oscillation effect in vicinity of $\Delta m^2_{14} = (7.25\pm0.13_{st}\pm1.08_{sys}) \text{eV}^2$ and $\sin^2(2\theta_{14}) =0.26\pm0.08_{st}\pm 0.05_{sys}$. We provide a comparison of our results with results of other experiments on search for sterile neutrino. Combining the result of the Neutrino-4 and the results of measurements of the gallium anomaly and reactor anomaly we obtained value $\sin^2(2\theta_{14})\approx 0.19\pm0.04(4.6\sigma)$. Also was performed comparison of Neutrino-4 experimental results with results of other reactor experiments NEOS, DANSS, STEREO, PROSPECT and accelerator experiments MiniBooNE, LSND and the IceCube experiment also. Sterile neutrino mass which can be calculated using the Neutrino-4 data in assumption that $m^2_4 \approx \Delta m^2_{14}$ is $m_4 = (2.68 \pm 0.13)\text{eV}$. Considering estimations of mixing angles obtained in other experiments we can calculate masses of electron neutrino, muon neutrino and tau neutrino: $m^{\text{eff}}_{\nu_e} = (0.58 \pm 0.09)\text{eV}, m^{\text{eff}}_{\nu_{\mu}} = (0.42 \pm 0.24)\text{eV}, m^{\text{eff}}_{\nu_{\tau}} \leq 0.65\text{eV}$. We report Neutrino-4 experiment results of measurements of reactor antineutrinos flux and spectrum dependence on the distance in range 6–12 m from the center of the reactor core. The fit of experimental dependence with the law 1/L2, where L is the distance from the reactor center, gave satisfactory result with goodness of fit 81%. However, we discovered that the experimental neutrino spectrum is different from the calculated one. Using experimental spectrum, we performed the model independent analysis of restrictions on oscillation parameters Δm 14 2 and sin2 2θ14. The results of this analysis exclude area of reactor and gallium anomaly at CL more than 99.7% (>3σ) for values Δm 14 2 0.1. However, we observed an oscillation effect at CL 2.8σ in vicinity of Δm 14 2 Δm 14 2 ≈ 7.3 eV2 and sin2 2θ14 ≈ 0.39. The method of coherent addition of results of measurements, which allows us to directly observe the effect of oscillations, is proposed. The analysis of that effect is presented. In general, it seems that the effect predicted in gallium and reactor experiments is being confirmed but at sufficiently large value of Δm 14 2 . Future prospects of the experiment are discussed.

An experimental search for sterile neutrinos has been carried out at a neutrino facility based on the SM-3 nuclear reactor in Dimitrovgrad, Russia. The movable detector with passive shielding against the external radiation may be positioned at a distance varying between 6 and 12 m from the center of the reactor. The antineutrino flux has for the first time been measured using a movable detector placed close to the antineutrino source. The accuracy of the measurements is largely restricted by the cosmic background. The results of the measurements performed at small and large distances are analyzed in terms of the sterile-neutrino model parameters Δm 14 2 and sin22θ14.

We report a new measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment with the PNPI EDM spectrometer using the ultracold neutron source PF2 at the research reactor of the ILL. Its first results can be interpreted as a limit on the neutron EDM of $|d_{\rm n}| < 5.5 \times 10^{-26} \rm{e} \cdot \rm{cm}$ (90% confidence level)., 9 pages, 5 figures

The comparison of results of cross section measurements by the different methods can provide useful information on existence of long-range interaction. The total neutron cross sections of He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe were measured using a method of ultracold neutrons. Measurements with ultra cold neutrons confirm the discrepancy between coherent cross-section of scattering for He measured by a neutron interferometer and scattering cross-section measured by the transmission method. The discrepancy makes up 5.3 standard deviations.

A method of using a gravitational spectrometer to search for long-range forces between neutrons and atoms is proposed. The constraints on the strength of long range forces within the range of 10−10–10−4 cm can be obtained from the experiments on measurements of the total cross section of interaction of ultracold neutrons with atoms of noble gases (He, Ne, Ar, 86Kr) and the data on the coherent neutron scattering length of the nucleus. The first result of such type analysis is presented.

The current status of the measurements of the neutron lifetime has been analyzed. The problem of experimental data discrepancy has been analyzed and systematic errors of some experiments have been found out. The corrected table of measurements is given and a new world average value of neutron lifetime 879.9 ± 0.9 s is presented.

We performed a detailed analysis and the Monte Carlo simulation of the neutron lifetime experiment [S. Arzumanov et al., Phys. Lett. B 483 (2000) 15] because of the strong disagreement by 5.6 standard deviations between the results of this experiment and our experiment [A. Serebrov et al., Phys. Lett. B 605 (2005) 72]. We found a few effects which were not taken into account in the experiment [S. Arzumanov et al., Phys. Lett. B 483 (2000) 15]. The possible correction is -5.5 s with uncertainty of 2.4 s which comes from initial data knowledge. We assume that after taking into account this correction the result of work [S. Arzumanov et al., Phys. Lett. B 483 (2000) 15] for neutron lifetime 885.4 +/- 0.9stat +/- 0.4syst s could be corrected to 879.9 +/- 0.9stat +/- 2.4syst s.

Motivated by the strong disagreement of a recent result for the neutron lifetime with the previous world average value we report results of a Monte Carlo simulation of the neutron lifetime experiment MAMBO I, which was carried out some 20 years ago. In addition to all experimental parameters and procedures known to us, the analysis included quasi-elastic neutron scattering on the surface of liquid fomblin oil wall coatings of the UCN storage vessel, and above-barrier neutrons. The original analysis, leading to the published result of 887.6 ± 3 s, did not take into account these effects. For an exemplary set of model parameters we find a negative correction of 6.0 seconds, which demonstrates that these hitherto neglected effects may be very important also in the analysis of other neutron lifetime experiments using UCN storage vessels with fomblin oil coating close to room temperature.
