Abstract

A prospective anonymous study of HTLV-I and HTLV-II seroprevalence among 23,078 pregnant women in most of the cities in the United Kingdom was conducted. It was concluded that the seroprevalence of HTLV-I and HTLV-II in Western Europe is 6-fold higher among pregnant women than among blood donors.

Abstract

Research has been conducted on HTLV infection and its association with HIV and other risk factors. Results demonstrate that the association between HTLV-1 and HIV-2 for men and women was different and that that common sexual risk factors cannot explain the co-occurrence of HIV-2 and HTLV-1 in women.

Abstract

About 4% of the population of Guinea-Bissau have HTLV-1 infection, which is a higher rate than the rate in other countries in West Africa. The rate was twice as high in women as in men and also increased with age. Blood transfusion, HIV infection, and multiple sexual partners were risk factors for HTLV-1 infection.
