Highlights: [•] We demonstrated that the solvent plays a critical role in the nanotubes formation process which can be controlled by the ambient temperature. [•] For a selected solvent, the saturated vapor pressure was the intrinsic factor for the morphologies determining during the electrospinning process. [•] The formation process of nanotubes was observed by TEM and a possible formation mechanism was proposed. [•] The magnetic properties of magnesium ferrite calcined at different temperature stages were systematically studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
