23.8 Gb/in.(super 2) areal density is demonstrated using a merged read-write grant magnetoresistive head, with an oriented thin film medium tested with broadband electronics and enhanced EPR4 channels. Both the heads and media used have appreciable technical advancements to keep up with the challenges that come with areal density growth.
