Abstract

A new type of probe is required for detecting the signals for the magnetic sludge, as it causes trouble for the safety of the steam generator tubes. A new U-type yoke is designed that has a magnetizing coil and a detecting coil and the signal induced by the ferromagnetic sludge in the Inconel 600 tube is simulated.

Abstract

The temperature dependences of the transferred hyperfine interaction at the Rb nucleus in RbMnCl3 and the Cs nucleus in CsMnCl3 are measured on both sides of the corresponding Neel temperatures, T(sub N). Temperature dependences of H(sub hf) for Rb and Cs nuclei in RbMnCl3 and CsMnCl3 change abruptly in the antiferromagnetic phase, and the abrupt increase in the H(sub hf) is large enough to allow transfer of the spin density from the Mn(super 2+) ion to the A ion for T(sub N) > T.

Abstract

The transferred hyperfine interactions at the A nuclei in AMnCl3 (A=Rb and Cs) crystals were measured on both sides of their corresponding Neel temperatures, TN. The changes in the curves of the transferred hyperfine field, Hhf, near 94.6 and 67 K for the Rb and the Cs nucleis, respectively, were associated with paramagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic transitions in these crystals. The Hhf due to transfer of the spin density from the Mn2+ ion to the A ion was obtained in the paramagnetic and the antiferromagnetic regions. The change in the Hhf for Rb and Cs nuclei may be due to differences in the contributions of the Mn2+ ions. Also, the temperature dependences of Hhf for Rb and Cs nuclei in RbMnCl3 and CsMnCl3 change abruptly in the antiferromagnetic phase, and the abrupt increase in the Hhf is large enough to allow transfer of the spin density from the Mn2+ ion to the A ion for TN>T. Abstract

RbMnCl3 and CsMnCl3 order antiferromagnetically at Neel temperatures TN=94.6 K and TN=67 K, respectively. The 87Rb and 133Cs spin-lattice relaxation times in these crystals were measured in the temperature range of 270–60 K. The large change in the relaxation rate that is observed near TN indicates that the magnetic phase in these crystals undergoes a paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition. In both crystals, the temperature dependencies of the relaxation rates for T TN are in accordance with a single-phonon process.
