A Kelvin-probe force microscopy method is used to characterize the band structure of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)/metal system, including a shift in the vacuum level that appears at the SWNT/metal interfaces. The results have shown that easy hole injection can be expected for all SWNT/ferromagnet systems.

The diffusion-adsorption method was used to examine the interface-adsorbed complex Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of arachidic acid and water-soluble, mesosubstituted cyanine dyes. The formation of either J or H aggregate was found to be dependent on the ethyl or methyl substituent group introduced and is measured by photoluminescence and microscopic spectroscopy. The molecular arrangements in the aggregates were determined based on Davydov'stheory and the extended dipole model. Schottky-type cells were used to study the dependence of photoelectric properties of the LB films on aggregate type.

The monochromatized visible incident was used to measure dispersive photoconductionin Langmuir-Blodgett thin films of merocyanine dye sandwiched between aluminum electrodes. The results showed that photoelectrons from the dye chromophores were the main cause of photoadmittance. In addition, frequency dependence was observed to originate from the dispersive component which predominates over thedc component for thicker films.
