Improper disposal, transportation, and recycling of electronic waste (e-waste) are growing concerns both in the United States and globally. Current efforts to address the environmental and social impacts of electronic waste (e-waste) can be improved upon by using the principles of the “new environmental governance” (NEG). The article explores the environmental and social impacts of e-waste. Contributors and facilitators to the problem are identified. Causal theories of rational choice and subjective expected utility are applied. Finally, the article recognizes current efforts in addressing the problem and how applying the tenets of the NEG may improve these efforts.
