Abstract

AbstractBamboo leaf extract (BLE) is a pale brown powder extracted from bamboo leaves, and it is listed in the Chinese Standard GB-2760 as a legal and safe food additive. The present study aims to identify and characterize the major flavonoids in BLE. The identification of major flavonoids was carried out using ultra performance liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionization quadruple time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-QTOF-MS/MS). A total of 31 flavonoid compounds were identified and tentatively characterized base on reference standards and MS dissociation mechanisms. HPLC/ESI-QTOF-MS can serve as an important analytical platform to identification structure of bamboo leaf flavonoids (BLF). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Phytochemical investigation on the concentrate of Huangjing wine, resulted in the isolation of three new tyrosol derivatives 4′′′-hydroxyphenethyl 2-(R)-hydroxy-3-phenylpropionate (1), 4′′′-hydroxyphenethyl(4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxyphenyl)propionate (2) and 4′′-hydroxyphenethyl ethyl succinate (3), together with 5 known compounds, ferulic acid (4), L-phenyllactic acid (5), hydroxytyrosol (6), dihydroferulic acid (7), cyclo(L-Pro-D-Tyr) (8). Their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic analysis and by comparison with the literature data. All compounds displayed antioxidant effect in the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical. Among them, the new compound 2 exhibited obvious antioxidant effect, and new compounds 1 and 3 exhibited medium antioxidant effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A phytochemical investigation on the 90% ethanol aqueous extract of the bulbs of Crinum latifolium led to the isolation of three new crinane-type alkaloids, designated as crinumlatines A-C (1-3). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis (NMR, IR, UV, and MS). The isolated alkaloids were tested in vitro for antimicrobial potentials against 5 pathogenic microorganisms. As a result, compounds 1-3 exhibited some antimicrobial activity against the tested Gram negative bacteria with minimum inhibitory concentration values less than 50 μg/ml. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Three new flavonoid glycosides, embeliaflavosides A-C (1–3), together with eight known flavonoid glycosides (4–11), were isolated from the fruits of Embelia ribes. Their structures were established based on the analyses of spectroscopic data. Compounds 1–11 were evaluated for antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. The results revealed that compounds 1–11 owned significant ABTS radical scavenging activity with IC50 values of 2.52–9.78 µM, and DPPH scavenging activity with IC50 values of 7.56–26.47 µM, respectively. Abstract

A chemical investigation on the 70% ethanol extract from the leaves and stems of Kopsia lancibracteolata Merr. resulted in the isolation of three new methyl chanofruticosinate type alkaloids, 12-hydroxyl prunifoline A (1), 12-hydroxyl prunifoline C (2), and N(4)-oxide prunifoline D (3). Structural elucidation of all the compounds was performed by spectral methods such as 1D- and 2D-NMR, IR, UV, and HR-ESI-MS. The isolated alkaloids were tested in vitro for cytotoxic potential against five tumor cell lines (BGC-823, HepG2, MCF-7, SGC-7901, and SK-MEL-2). As a result, alkaloid 3 exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against all tested tumor cell lines with IC50 values from 7.2 to 8.9 μM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Three new sesquiterpenes of canusesnol K (1), canusesnol L (2) and 12, 15-dihydroxycurcumene (3), along with five known ones (4-8), were isolated from the heartwood extract of Pterocarpus santalinus. Their structures were established by extensive analyses of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HSQC, HMBC and NOESY, and HRESI-MS. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were established with Modified Mosher’s method. The cytotoxic activities of all these compounds against HepG2 (human liver cancer), MCF-7 (human breast cancer), MDA-MB-231 (human breast cancer), and Hela (human cervical carcinoma) cancer cell lines were evaluated. A series of new sinomenine derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated in tumor inhibitory activity, such as human triple negative breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231), glioma cell line (A172), human lung cancer cell line (A549), human colon cancer cell line (HCT-8). The modifications were carried out on rings A and C of the sinomenine by esterificating on phenolic hydroxyl with good yields. A new tetrahydrofuran-type lignan, episesaminone (1), was isolated from Asarum heterotropoides Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum (Maxim.) Kitag. Its structure was established by spectroscopic techniques (HR-MS, 1D NMR, 2D NMR, and circular dichroism). The anti-inflammatory activity in RAW 264.7 macrophages was carried out on 1 and other eight known compounds, the epimer of 1 (2) and seven known furofurans-type lignan (3–9) obtained from A. heterotropoides Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum. Compounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 showed significant anti-inflammatory activity, particularly 50 μM compound 3 inhibited 69.2% NO production compared with the lipopolysaccharide group.
