The first HSCT program in Latin America started in 1979 at the Federal University Hospital (Curitiba, Paraná). Over the years, the number of centers performing transplants in the country increased, generating the need to know the results of this modality of treatment. Understanding the HSCT scenario in Brazil is still challenging since not all Brazilian centers report data to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Research (CIBMTR). Although it has been improving over the last years, infrastructure and trained data managers are still lacking. The partnership between the Brazilian Cellular Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant Society (SBTMO) and the CIBMTR, allowed the return of Brazilian data registered in the CIBMTR, through the Data Back to Center (DBtC), in a standardized and organized way. With this database it was possible to know the demographic data and the outcomes of transplants performed in Brazil. Between 2012 and 2021, complete information of 7,982 transplants were reported to the CIBMTR from 31 Brazilian transplant centers. The consolidation of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Brazilian Registry (HSCTBR) using CIBMTR infrastructure, allowed the Brazilian Summary slides development and update. Despite the difference in the number of cases and of follow-up time, the results in this study were similar to those presented in the US Summary Slides.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has the potential to cure a significant proportion of patients with malignant and nonmalignant diseases. The main rationale for HSCT in inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) is based on correcting the decreases enzymes by the donor cells within and outside the intravascular compartment. In this article, Brazilian Group for Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation of the Brazilian Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (SBTMO) provides a review of HSCT indications in IEM.

Nonetheless, despite the graft versus leukemia (GVL) effect, treatment-related morbidity and mortality remains a major challenge. Moreover, the significant heterogeneity of the available data on the selection of patients, type of conditioning regimen, and type of donor hampers any definitive conclusions in the pediatric population. In 2020, the Brazilian Group for Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation of the Brazilian Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (SBTMO) and the Brazilian Society for Pediatric Oncology (SOBOPE) convened a task force to provide general guidance on HSCT for childhood ALL to providing evidence-based guidance for the appropriate management of this disease.

The partnership between the Brazilian Cellular Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant Society (SBTMO) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Research (CIBMTR) allowed the return of Brazilian data registered in the CIBMTR, through the Data Back to Center (DBtC), in a standardized and organized way. With this database it was possible to know the demographic data and the outcomes of transplants performed in Brazil. The spreadsheet was imported into the Power BI desktop, and functions and charts were created. Between 2008 and 2019, 7,264 transplants were reported to the CIBMTR from 24 Brazilian transplant centers. The partnership between SBTMO and CIBMTR, made the Brazilian registry possible and allowed the development of the first Brazilian Summary slides. Despite the difference in the number of cases and of follow-up time, the results in this study were similar to those presented in the US Summary Slides.

O trabalho é uma coorte retrospectiva com o intuito de analisar o perfil dos pacientes submetidos ao TMO no período de Janeiro de 2001 a Dezembro de 2016 que tiveram como parte do condicionamento o TBI. Foi realizado atraves da coleta de dados em prontuário transcritas para planilha Microsoft Excel 2010 e analisadas com o pacote estatístico SPSS versão 20.0. Foram avaliados 139 pacientes, sendo 92 (66,2%) do sexo feminino. Em relação ao tipo de TMO 51,8% eram aparentados, 32,4% não-aparentados, 12,2% haploidênticos e 3,6 % autólogos. O seguimento médio foi de 29,3 meses. As doenças mais frequentes foram LLA (73,4%) e LMA (8,6%). Noventa e sete pacientes foram classificados como doença avançada (70,8%) e 40 como precoce (29,2%), com taxa de sobrevida global, respectivamente de 31,8 e 62,4%. A dose mais utilizada no TBI foi 12Gy (78,4%). Cinquenta pacientes realizaram radioterapia prévia, sendo a mais comum de encéfalo total (74%). Os efeitos agudos predominantes foram neutropenia febril (60,4%) e mucosite G3-4 (41%) e os tardios alterações endocrinológicas (17,3%), osteonecrose (3,6%) e alterações cognitivas severas (2,9%). Quarenta e oito pacientes apresentaram DECH agudo (34,5%) e 35 crônico (25,2%). A taxa de recaída global foi de 37,8%. A taxa de morte relacionada ao TMO foi de 34,6%. O trabalho permitiu inferir que o Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Aleggre apresenta taxas de recidiva, sobrevida global e complicações semelhante aos índices dos grandes centros mundiais.
