A study was carried out concerning the effects of an ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (bmimBF4) on the properties of nonionic surfactant-based H2O + Triton X-100 (TX-100) + hexanol + cyclohexane microemulsions. Several properties of microemulsions, such as polarity, conductivity, viscosity, and droplet size, were investigated with the mass ratio of TX-100/hexanol/cyclohexane = 3:2:7. With the addition of IL, the polarity of the microemulsions increases. Conductivity results reveal that the onset water content of electrical percolation decreases with the presence of IL and continues to decrease as the amount of IL increases. The viscosity of microemulsions increases with the increasing amount of IL. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements indicate that the droplet sizes of microemulsions increase with the addition of IL. All results presented in this study suggest that the IL is solubilized into the polar core of microemulsions.

The water solubilization capacity of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) in isooctane microemulsions in the presence of chloride anion-based ionic liquids (ILs), such as 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (emimCl), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (bmimCl), and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (omimCl), was investigated. The water solubilization capacity is enhanced at low IL concentrations but decreases at high concentrations of IL. Meanwhile, the water solubilization capacity increases with the increase of chain length of ILs at low IL concentrations. The effect of ILs on the volume-induced percolation of AOT microemulsions was also studied. To separate xylose from monosaccharide mixtures, we investigated the adsorption equilibrium of glucose, xylose, and arabinose on five different resins. The single-component isotherms of these three sugars were measured at 25 °C. All equilibrium data were described with linear isotherms. The adsorption amounts and selectivities of the above monosaccharides on these five cation exchange resins were compared. The counterions and the degree of cross-linking were the important factors influencing the adsorption behavior. The Ca2+ loaded and 4 % cross-linked resin has the largest adsorption amounts for each monosaccharide, while the Ca2+ loaded and 6 % cross-linked resin has the maximum selectivity factor (about 1.318) for the species of arabinose and xylose and the Ca2+ loaded and 8 % cross-linked resin shows a better performance on the separation of xylose and glucose.

The solubility of racemic paroxetine intermediate in supercritical carbon dioxide was measured in the pressure range from (9 to 24) MPa and at temperatures of (308.2, 318.2, and 328.2) K using a continuous flow-type apparatus equipped with a high-pressure UV-Vis detector. Results showed that under the present operation conditions, the experimentally determined solubility of the racemic compound was in the range of (7.3 x 10 -5 to 1.2 x 10 -3 ) in mole fraction. The solubility increased with rising pressure at constant temperature, and the crossover pressure was found to locate at around 12 MPa for the three solubility isotherms. An empirical density-based Chrastil's equation was used to fit the experimental solubility data, giving a good correlation with an AARD of 7.56 %.
