ZnO/g-C3N4 heterojunction modified with Ag nanoparticles (ZnO/CN/Ag) was synthesized by depositing ZnO nanorods/Ag nanoparticles onto g-C3N4 nanosheets. Under xenon lamp irradiation, 99% of Rhodamine B (RhB) was degraded by ZnO/CN/Ag-5% composite within 30 min, which was much higher than the degradation efficiency of ZnO and ZnO/CN. The synergistic effect of g-C3N4 and ZnO, along with the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag NPs, contributes to the improvement of photocatalytic performance. Ag nanoparticle provides another charge transfer path from g-C3N4 to ZnO, which speeds up the separation of electron–hole pairs. Meanwhile, the catalyst had good stability and recyclability. The IR spectra of CDF3 in the solid Ar and N2 matrices were measured and analyzed in the region of the Fermi polyads 2ν4/ν1/2ν2/ν4 + ν5, complicated by a close Fermi resonance ν4/ν3 + ν6. The symmetry lifting effect, observed in the N2 matrix, was found helpful for an accurate assignment of the individual components. The anharmonic calculation of the potential energy surface and the dipole moment function was performed on the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level. The unperturbed values of vibrational eigenstates were determined in the region of ν1 (CD stretching vibration) in both matrices. Plasmonic photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting has excited immense interest, as it can overcome the intrinsic limitations of semiconductors, in terms of light absorption, by the localized-surface plasmon resonances effect. Here, to get insight into the role of plasmonic hot carriers in plasmonic water splitting, a rational design of an antenna–reactor type Pt/Ag/TiO2 metal–semiconductor Schottky nanodiode was fabricated and used as a photoanode. Using the designed PEC cell system combined with the Pt/Ag/TiO2 nanodiode, we show that the plasmonic hot carriers excited from Ag were utilized for the oxygen (O2) evolution reaction and, consequently, had a decisive role in the enhancement of the photocatalytic efficiency. These results were supported by finite-difference time-domain simulations, and the faradaic efficiency was measured by the amount of actual gas produced. Therefore, this study provides a deep understanding of the dynamics and mechanisms of plasmonic hot carriers in plasmonic-assisted PEC water splitting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mechanism of the gas-phase halogen-exchange reaction between boron- and aluminum-halides (i.e., BX3 + BX3 and AlX3 + AlX3, X = F, Cl, or Br) was discovered using density functional theory. The reaction takes place via a two-step mechanism with the intermediacy of a diamond-core structure analogous to diborane. Good agreement was found between the simulated reaction features and experimental observations, which demonstrate slow kinetics and an equilibrium process for boron species and dimer formation in the case of aluminum-halides. This computational and theoretical study also reveals and quantifies the effect of resonance on the thermodynamic stability of the central intermediate and conceptualizes the extreme stability difference (∼50 kcal mol−1) between boron and aluminum diamond-core bridge structures. Through an interaction energy decomposition analysis in combination with electronic structure analyses, we revealed that, beyond the resonance stabilization in free boron-halides, superior electrostatics in aluminum-halides results in the different reactivities, i.e., dimer formation for the latter species whereas substituent exchange for the former ones. We recently proposed effective normal modes for excitonically coupled aggregates that exactly transform the energy transfer Hamiltonian into a sum of one-dimensional Hamiltonians along the effective normal modes. Identifying physically meaningful vibrational motions that maximally promote vibronic mixing suggested an interesting possibility of leveraging vibrational-electronic resonance for mediating selective energy transfer. Here, we expand on the effective mode approach, elucidating its iterative nature for successively larger aggregates, and extend the idea of mediated energy transfer to larger aggregates. We show that energy transfer between electronically uncoupled but vibronically resonant donor–acceptor sites does not depend on the intermediate site energy or the number of intermediate sites. The intermediate sites simply mediate electronic coupling such that vibronic coupling along specific promoter modes leads to direct donor–acceptor energy transfer, bypassing any intermediate uphill energy transfer steps. We show that the interplay between the electronic Hamiltonian and the effective mode transformation partitions the linear vibronic coupling along specific promoter modes to dictate the selectivity of mediated energy transfer with a vital role of interference between vibronic couplings and multi-particle basis states. Our results suggest a general design principle for enhancing energy transfer through synergistic effects of vibronic resonance and weak mediated electronic coupling, where both effects individually do not promote efficient energy transfer. The effective mode approach proposed here paves a facile route toward four-wavemixing spectroscopy simulations of larger aggregates without severely approximating resonant vibronic coupling. Fluorescence-encoded infrared (FEIR) spectroscopy is a vibrational spectroscopy technique that has recently demonstrated the capability of single-molecule sensitivity in solution without near-field enhancement. This work explores the practical experimental factors that are required for successful FEIR measurements in both the single-molecule and bulk regimes. We investigate the role of resonance conditions by performing measurements on a series of coumarin fluorophores of varying electronic transition frequencies. To analyze variations in signal strength and signal to background between molecules, we introduce an FEIR brightness metric that normalizes out measurement-specific parameters. We find that the effect of the resonance condition on FEIR brightness can be reasonably well described by the electronic absorption spectrum. It is shown that the action of an oscillating force on particles moving through a deformable-walled channel causes them to travel greater distances than in the case of a rigid channel. This increase in the transport efficiency is due to an intensification of the stochastic resonance effect observed in corrugated rigid channels, for which the response to the force is maximal for an optimal value of the thermal noise. The distances traveled by the particles are even larger when the oscillation of the micro-channel is synchronized with that of an applied transverse force and also when a constant external force is considered. The phenomenon found could be observed in the transport of particles through elastic porous media, in drug delivery to cancerous tissues, and in the passage of substrates through transporters in biological membranes. Shape resonances appear when the system is trapped in an internuclear potential well after tunneling through a barrier. They manifest as peaks in the collision energy dependence of the cross section (excitation function), and in many cases, their presence can be observed experimentally. High-resolution crossed-beam experiments on the S(1D) + H2(j = 0) reaction in the 0.81–8.5 meV collision energy range reaction revealed non-monotonic behavior and the presence of oscillations in the reaction cross section as a function of the collision energy, as predicted by quantum mechanical (QM) calculations. In this work, we have analyzed the effect of shape resonances on the differential cross sections for this insertion reaction by performing additional QM calculations. We have found that, in some cases, the resonance gives rise to a large enhancement of extreme backward scattering for specific final states. Our results also show that, in order to yield a significant change in the state-resolved differential cross section, the resonance has to be associated with constructive interference between groups of partial waves, which requires not getting blurred by the participation of many product helicity states. The focus of this work is on a microscopic quantum electrodynamical understanding of cumulative quantum effects in resonance energy transfer occurring in an isotropic and disordered medium. In particular, we consider quantum coherence, defined in terms of interferences between Feynman pathways, and analyze pure-amplitude and phase cross terms that appear in the Fermi golden rule rate equation that results from squaring the matrix element for mediated energy transfer. It is shown that pure-amplitude terms dominate in the near-zone when chromophores are close in proximity to one another (within a few nanometers), and phase cross terms dominate toward the far-zone when phase differences between different Feynman pathways begin to emerge. This can be understood in terms of physical attributes of the mediating photon, whose character becomes more real at long distances, coinciding with vanishing longitudinal components of the field, as transverse components begin to dominate. We present a novel approach for the calculation of vibrational (resonance) Raman optical activity (ROA) spectra based on real time propagation. The ROA linear electronic response tensors are formulated in a propagator formalism in order to treat linear response (LR-) and real time time dependent density functional theory (RT-TDDFT) on equal footing. The length, mixed, and velocity representations of these tensors are discussed with respect to the potential origin dependence of the ROA invariants in the calculations. The propagator formalism allows a straight forward extension of the optical LR tensors in a mixed or velocity representation to a coupling with nonlocal potentials, where an extra term appears in the definition of the momentum operator, in order to maintain the gauge invariance. Using RT-TDDFT paves the way for an innovative, efficient calculation of both on- and off-resonance ROA spectra. Exemplary results are given for the off-resonance and (pre-)resonance spectra of (R)-methyloxirane, considering the resonance effects due to one or more electronically excited states. It has been widely recognized that plasmonic metal nanoparticles (MNPs) can enhance the power convention efficiency (PCE) of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). This enhancement is ascribed to the combined effects of plasmon decay, scattering, near-field enhancement, and exciting charge carriers in semiconductors through plasmon-induced resonance energy transfer (PIRET) and hot electron injection (HEI). PIRET and HEI processes appeared between MNPs, and semiconductors have been intensively investigated; however, it is not clear how the collaborative effect of PIRET and photon-induced direct and indirect electron transfer (PICT) occurred between plasmonic metals and dyes, and the interference of different charge separation channels (CSCs) starting from PIRET and PICT affects the PCE of DSSCs. This work aims to address these issues. We apply a model Hamiltonian method, which obviously includes both PIRET and PICT processes from Au MNP to dye molecules and incorporates the dye's electron-phonon interaction, to investigate the carrier dynamics. It is found that PIRET deforms the wavepacket dynamics of the molecular excited state and results in ten-fold enhancement of dye absorption. MNPs augment light absorption and increase the electron density in empty molecular orbitals of the dye molecule. Consequently, this enhances the interfacial charge separation. Furthermore, we observed the interference behavior of two CSCs and gave a full-scale insight into the correlation between the constructive/destructive interference and the electronic-state properties as well as carrier-phonon interactions. We measured differential cross sections for elastic (rotationally integrated) electron scattering on pyrimidine, both as a function of angle up to 180? at electron energies of 1, 5, 10, and 20 eV and as a function of electron energy in the range 0.1-14 eV. The experimental results are compared to the results of the fixed-nuclei Schwinger variational and R-matrix theoretical methods, which reproduce satisfactorily the magnitudes and shapes of the experimental cross sections. The emphasis of the present work is on recording detailed excitation functions revealing resonances in the excitation process. Resonant structures are observed at 0.2, 0.7, and 4.35 eV and calculations for different symmetries confirm their assignment as the ... 2A2, Ã2B1, and ...2B1 shape resonances. As a consequence of superposition of coherent resonant amplitudes with background scattering the ... 2B1 shape resonance appears as a peak, a dip, or a step function in the cross sections recorded as a function of energy at different scattering angles and this effect is satisfactorily reproduced by theory. The dip and peak contributions at different scattering angles partially compensate, making the resonance nearly invisible in the integral cross section. Vibrationally integrated cross sections were also measured at 1, 5, 10 and 20 eV and the question of whether the fixed-nuclei cross sections should be compared to vibrationally elastic or vibrationally integrated cross section is discussed. Resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization spectra were recorded by detecting ion production as a function of energy using a time of flight mass spectrometer. New measurements of energies for the ν = 51-66 levels for the B"B state of H2 are reported, which, taken with previous results, span the ν = 46-69 vibrational levels. We report on the shape resonance spectra of uracil, 5-fluorouracil, and 5-chlorouracil, as obtained from fixed-nuclei elastic scattering calculations performed with the Schwinger multichannel method with pseudopotentials. Our results are in good agreement with the available electron transmission spectroscopy data, and support the existence of three p* resonances in uracil and 5-fluorouracil. As expected, the anion states are more stable in the substituted molecules than in uracil. Since the stabilization is stronger in 5-chlorouracil, the lowest p* resonance in this system becomes a bound anion state. The present results also support the existence of a low-lying s*CCl shape resonance in 5-chlorouracil. Exploratory calculations performed at selected C-Cl bond lengths suggest that the s*CCl resonance could couple to the two lowest p* states, giving rise to a very rich dissociation dynamics. These facts would be compatible with the complex branching of the dissociative electron attachment cross sections, even though we cannot discuss any details of the vibration dynamics based only on the present fixed-nuclei results.
