This paper aims to introduce a new sustainable business excellence model, called Knowledge Management Excellence Model 21 (KMEM21), a theoretical framework that combines Knowledge Management and Business Excellence Models (BEMs), proposing an approach applicable to organizations to directly contribute towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The paper through a qualitative-exploratory methodology makes an analysis and benchmarking, emphasizes the integration of Knowledge Management and three specific Business Excellence Models (Management Excellence Model (MEG) from Brazil, Baldrige Excellence Framework, and EFQM). This integration uncovers relationships between organizational concepts associated with Knowledge Management and BEMs, which contributes to new insights in the literature regarding these concepts' interplay. BEMs are presented as tools that can catalyze the power of Knowledge Management towards achieving SDGs. However, it's noted that the existing BEMs might not be adequate, as the goal extends beyond organizational improvement and excellence to encompass sustainable development aligned with SDGs. The article suggests that specific organizational concepts, identified through a literature review and aligned with Knowledge Management and BEMs, can be selected as indicators associated with the constructed KMEM21 and the SDGs. These indicators are intended to form a bridge between the new model and the SDGs. However, given the comprehensive nature of the theory, model development, application, result acquisition, and analysis, the article's primary contribution will be in its focus on elaborating the instrument and technique, demonstrating the creation of a theoretical framework for the SDGs. Future works will showcase the application of the proposed KMEM21 method in five Brazilian organizations, members of Global Compact, to compare the achieved objectives and the results obtained with the organizations' performance and their sustainability reports. Emerging industries and technologies are made up of objective, practical requirements and ideas that encompass broad hopes for what future newness might enable. The bioeconomy is one such emerging industry. Its recent evolution has involved a complicated and dynamic mix of promises, reality checks and subsequent ambivalences. This article frames and investigates the emerging algae-based bioplastics industry as one niche within this broader system envisaged for social, technological, economic, political and ecological change. As such, our paper presents two categories of knowledge that in practice interrelate: 1) specific and practical recommendations that can assist a future algal-based bioplastics industry to develop in Australia in ways that are conscious of socio-ecological and socio-cultural dimensions, and 2) critical extensions that go beyond the attributes of newness, impact, suddenness and universality often emphasised in both popular and scientific research into emerging green technologies. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations represent a crucial worldwide initiative aimed at advancing development and fostering a more favorable future. However, the advancement made towards achieving these objectives has been insufficient, and the allocation of research endeavors has been uneven. As a way to address this concern, the present study aimed to conduct an evaluation of the SDGs through examining their research-friendly characteristics. By conducting a systematic review of scholarly works and employing diverse evaluation criteria, the research employed a multi-criteria decision-making approach to rank the SDGs. The results of the study indicate that SDG 3, which pertains to health and well-being, was rated the most research-friendly, whereas SDG 4, which emphasizes quality education, and SDG 16, which concerns peace, justice, and strong institutions, received the lowest ratings. Besides, some of the research obstacles linked with every SDG have been outlined by this paper. The present investigation underscores the research-oriented character of the SDGs and emphasizes the significance of comprehending research agendas to formulate efficacious and sustainable resolutions to worldwide predicaments. The outcomes of this study offer a significant asset for individuals responsible for making decisions, the academic community, and other interested parties who are involved in the allocation of resources towards the SDGs. The current investigation provides an important contribution to the scholarly dialogue by creating a framework that can direct expected research efforts and aid policymakers in modifying existing or creating new goals that are more favorable to research and development. Food, energy, and water, as the basic resources supporting human survival, are fundamental to the sustainable development of humanity. Urban space plays an influential role in promoting the sustainable development of the three resources. As environmental problems such as global warming, ecological destruction, and resource shortages become increasingly severe, there is also a growing recognition of the importance of community as the fundamental component of urban space in sustainable development. In order to systematically understand the impact between food–energy–water nexus and community spatial planning, this paper provides a comprehensive literature review to bridge the current gaps in this area. This paper uses the nexus approach to summarize the trends and results of the food–energy–water nexus research in the community space field from the following five aspects: spatial scale, spatial interface, interactions, synergistic effects, and research methods. The results show that food–energy–water systems in community space are closely related to each other. However, the existing studies mostly focus on resource interaction and environmental impact, and lack of discussion on how food–energy–water nexus affects community spatial planning and its optimization. Finally, based on the current results, this paper proposes a conceptual research framework of the food–energy–water nexus in community space including influential mechanisms, space utilization, disciplinary integration, new technology application, data and methods. Green hydrogen production by water electrolysis is sustainable and carbon-free for energy storage. This paper introduces recent development in integrated green hydrogen polygeneration. Throughout this review, theoretical concepts, design types, and recent developments related to the integration of Alkaline Electrolysis (AE), Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolysis (PEME), and the Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC) are summarised. This review evaluates the thermodynamic efficiency and economic impact of green hydrogen production integrated with different energy sources, energy storage and power cycles. Compared with two kinds of commercially applied methods (AE and PEME), SOEC is the state-of-the-art method to produce hydrogen, which can be integrated with external heat to reduce energy consumption. SOEC avoids the inevitable energy loss in AE and PEME, which leads to low-temperature waste heat evaluated as exergy destruction rather than utilized. The overall efficiency improvement of SOEC systems is over 10%. In most cases, the efficiency is always over 70%, and over 80% in some cases, which exceeds the typical values of 20%–60% from AE and PEME systems. The produced hydrogen can be stored and transported, as well as being used as a feedstock for chemical production, forming a polygeneration system with multiple energy sources, desalination, and fuel production. The latest lifetime of SOEC was predicted at 50,000 h or more, which is the minimum requirement to be commercially competitive. In the literature review, 80.4% of papers chose exergy efficiency as assessment index, compared with 67.9% of energy efficiency. Investments into new energy solution systems, and for example into producing carbon-neutral fuels, are increasing, but tools for the capital investments' feasibility studies are limited. Various contemporaneous attempts to reduce the dependence on fossil energy sources are needed, and a power-to-x (P2X) solution, which is part of the hydrogen economy, can be seen as one opportunity. However, many hydrogen economy solutions have not yet been proven to be economically profitable, but they could be if the investment projects were considered from a broader perspective than from company level and an economic perspective. In previous research, a three-stage economic and technology emphasized feasibility study (FS) framework has been created, and the early results indicate that the P2X investments can meet economic feasibility with over 12% of the investor IRR, and could offer profitable solutions towards a carbon-neutral future. However, the framework did not recognize the full potential of P2X through sustainability, and therefore a new extended version of the framework is needed. The objective of the paper is to create an expanded sustainable feasibility study (SFS) framework from the FS framework to support the P2X investments. As a result, an SFS framework is created, considering the investment projects' feasibility beyond the economic perspective by adding all three dimensions of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. The three stages of the framework are ecosystem profiling, business model description, and profitability modelling. When the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed upon by the UN General Assembly in 2015, and subsequently endorsed by most UN Member States, there was a sense of optimism in respect of their timely implementation by 2030. This optimism has now become a concern. This is due to the fact that a combination of unfavourable circumstances and crises have so severely undermined the pursuit of the SDGs, that there are serious concerns about the probability of their achievement by 2030. This paper reports on an expert-driven literature review of the implementation of the SDGs and a bibliometric analysis, aimed at identifying some of the issues which have been slowing SDGs' progress.
