Pollution-intensive industries (PIIs) promote regional economic development but also generate environmental pressure; thus, the relocation of such industries has been a popular research issue. PIIs have been usually studied as a whole in previous studies, ignoring the differences among different pollution types. This study attempts to characterize the spatial and temporal characteristics of PIIs in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which is a world-class megalopolis. This region has water pollution, air pollution, solid pollution and composite pollution types based on newly expanded industrial land use data from 2007 to 2016. The results are as follows. (1) The spatial distribution of newly expanded land for the PIIs was mainly concentrated in the southeastern part of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, first increased and then decreased during the study period. (2) Different PII pollution types exhibited different quantitative and spatial characteristics. Overall, water and composite pollution-intensive industries dominated, in which the air and composite pollution-intensive industries are large in size and are relatively non-concentrated in their location; the newly expanded land for water pollution-intensive industries was characterized as small in size, scattered, and numerous. The aggregation characteristics of solid pollution-intensive industries had the least amount of newly expanded land and the smallest spatial aggregation range, with a trend towards further reductions or even their disappearance in the future. (3) Hebei has become the bearer of incoming PIIs that have relocated from Beijing and Tianjin. The main polluting industry types that are present in different regions display differences. Industrial park clustering will be the mainstream direction of industrial management in the future. Under the constraints of water scarcity in North China, water pollution-intensive industries are the key to future optimization of spatial development patterns and environmental management, providing a theoretical basis for industries to implement corresponding classification and management work. China has experienced extreme urban heat island effects and air pollution associated with rapid urbanization. Optimizing urban ventilation environment could relieve these environmental problems. In this study, an Urban Ventilation Network Model (UVNM) was developed to explore the impact of urban morphology and building height on the urban ventilation condition. The study calculated the ventilation resistance coefficient of building height according to fluid mechanics, and then determined the least cost path among the air inlets and outlets considering the direction and frequency of wind. Eventually, corridors at several different levels of ventilation were extracted by classifying the line densities of least cost paths, which were effectively verified through land surface temperature retrieved from the Landsat Thematic Mapper. The new model is more scientific and convenient than traditional urban construction environmental assessment software in terms of data acquisition and hardware support. The results suggest that urban design based on urban morphology and building height and considering the direction and frequency of wind would be effective for optimizing ventilation to regulate urban environmental problems. Sewer pipes health and failure consequences evaluation are vital to ensure the safety of urban sewer networks. Sewer pipes with low health and severe failure consequences should be the primary focus of daily maintenance and management for drainage authorities. Conversely, sewer pipes with high health and low failure consequences are temporarily not a primary concern, in order to reduce resource wastage within the constraints of limited economic and time resources. Thus, the scientific analysis of their relationships is deemed essential. This paper applies supply-demand balance theory to analyze the relationship. On the supply side, a health Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation model (HFCE) is proposed with weighted hierarchies established. On the demand side, a failure consequences FCE model (FFCE) is established. Each sewer pipe's supply-demand balance score is analyzed using matrix multiplication, highlighting two types of imbalanced pipes and sub-districts. Taking the Liangshui River Basin in Beijing as an example, the results show that the health evaluation can identify the spatial distribution of the health of sewer pipes, with low health levels V and IV accounting for 10.23 % and 4.43 %, respectively. The failure consequences evaluation can evaluate the spatial distribution of the severity of sewer pipe failure consequences, with high failure consequences levels V and IV respectively accounting for 10.97 % and 16.77 %. The supply-demand balance analysis identifies the proportion of the first and second types of imbalanced pipes, respectively 14.24 % and 6.80 %. A methodology for carbon accounting and net mitigation estimation for national ecological restoration projects in China (CANM-EP) was developed, and this method simultaneously considered carbon sequestration, on-site greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ecosystem management, off-site GHG emissions and other changes in the ecosystem GHG budget. Based on this methodology, the annual variance and composition of carbon sequestration, GHG emissions and net carbon sequestration were analyzed for the first stage of the Beijing-Tianjin Sand Source Control Project (BTSSCP) (2001–2010) in the respective project provinces. The total carbon sequestration in the BTSSCP from 2001 to 2010 was 71.25–71.66 Tg C, and the additional GHG emissions from the BTSSCP were 7.28–7.50 Tg Ce, which counteracted 10.2–10.5% of the sequestered carbon. Among the different project measures in their corresponding ecosystems, the counteraction effect of grassland management in the grassland ecosystem was over 50%, which was much higher than that of afforestation and the conversion of cropland to forest. The net carbon sequestration in the BTSSCP was 63.75–64.38 Tg Ce, and the annual average was 6.38–6.44 Tg Ce·yr−1. The annual rate of net carbon mitigation for Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia was 1.16–1.17, 1.29–1.30, 1.06–1.07, 0.85–0.86 and 0.63–0.65 t Ce·ha−1·yr−1, respectively. The GHG emissions offset a minor part of the carbon sequestration in the BTSSCP. Therefore, the BTSSCP makes a relatively significant contribution to GHG mitigation in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Energy consumption has promoted a continuous development for economy and society, but it has also brought serious environmental pollution problems which endanger public health. In order to focus on the impact of PM 2.5 emissions from future energy consumption on human health better, this paper estimated PM 2.5 emissions caused by energy consumption in Beijing in 2020,2025 and 2030 by setting the baseline scenario, emission reduction scenario, intensified emission reduction scenario and the data of the base year 2015, which will be 162.6 thousand tons, 195.9 thousand tons and 235.9 thousand tons in the baseline scenario, 143.1 thousand tons, 151.8 thousand tons and 160.9 thousand tons under the emission reduction scenario, and 132.6 thousand tons, 130.2 thousand tons, 127.9 thousand tons under the intensified emission reduction scenario. Finally the paper measured the number of different health effect ends caused by PM 2.5 emissions and the economic loss. The results showed that there was a rapid increase, a mild increase and a moderate decrease in energy consumption and PM 2.5 emissions in Beijing under the three scenarios from 2015 to 2030. Besides, under the same scenario and the same concentration level baseline, the number of the internal medicine (over the age of 15) was the largest, and the economic loss caused by total death rate was the biggest.
