Currently, designing smart membranes with multifunctional effectiveness is crucial to food freshness monitoring and retention. Herein, an active colorimetric Janus bilayer membrane with directional water transport (DWT) performance is constructed by electrospinning, which comprises a hydrophilic layer of silk fibroin-bayberry anthocyanins (SF-BAs) and a hydrophobic layer of polycaprolactone-eucalyptus oil (PCL-EO). The entities of BAs and EO are well dispersed in the fiber matrix by hydrogen bonds and physical interactions, respectively. BAs endow the membrane colorimetric response and antioxidant activity, and EO contributes to the antibacterial activity while DWT performance is generated from the asymmetric wettability of the two layers. The bilayer membrane has an accumulative one-way transport index of 1077%, an overall moisture management capacity of 0.76 and a water evaporation rate of 0.48 g h−1. Moreover, the release of BAs and EO was predominantly controlled by Fickian diffusion. As a pH-sensing indicator, PCL-EO@SF-BAs is highly sensitive to external pH stimuli and the response is reversible. In addition to freshness monitoring, PCL-EO@SF-BAs can extend the shelf-life of pork beyond 100% at 4 °C. Abstract Stimulated by both the rich electrochemical properties and unique structural merits, much attention is directed to construct novel cobalt sulfides nanoarchitectures for energy storage devices. Here, carbon-coated cobalt sulfide nanostructures are fabricated with the assistance of polyvinylpyrrolidone during hydrothermal process. The morphology of carbon-coated cobalt sulfide can evolve from well-defined uniform nanooctahedrons, nanoflowers to nanospheres by simply controlling the polyvinylpyrrolidone amount. Remarkably, the unique carbon-coated cobalt sulfide configuration takes full advantage of the synergistic contributions from both the homogeneous incorporated carbon layer and the ideal hierarchical flowerlike structures, thereby making it to be a suitable electrode for supercapacitors. By virtue of the intriguing structural features of carbon-coated cobalt sulfide, a solid asymmetric supercapacitor based on carbon-coated cobalt sulfide nanoflowers as the positive electrode and active carbon as the negative electrode achieves remarkable cycling stability (around 86% capacitance retention even up to 10,000 times), and outstanding energy density of 40 Wh kg−1 at power density of 850 W kg−1. The exceptionably electrochemical performance of the asymmetric supercapacitor is related to the enhanced electrical conductivity and increased electrode/electrolyte contact area of carbon-coated cobalt sulfide. Abstract: A simple method based on the Stöber reaction was developed to prepare silver-nanocrystal-doped silica composite particles. The silane coupling agent N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)dropyl]ethylene diamine (TSD) incorporated Ag+ into a siloxane framework and a further chemical reducer reduced Ag+ to silver nanoparticles. TEM images showed that, in the presence of TSD, silver nanocrystals (fcc) of 2–8 nm were homogeneously doped in the silica particles, which showed a typical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak. The as-prepared Ag/SiO2 composite particles can be self-assembled into long-range ordered lattices (or photonic crystals) over large areas. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

[Display omitted] Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is considered as a new-rising strategy for cancer therapeutics, but the inefficient production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by current sonosensitizers seriously hinders its further applications. Herein, a piezoelectric nanoplatform is fabricated for enhancing SDT against cancer, in which manganese oxide (MnO x) with multiple enzyme-like activities is loaded on the surface of piezoelectric bismuth oxychloride nanosheets (BiOCl NSs) to form a heterojunction. When exposed to ultrasound (US) irradiation, piezotronic effect can remarkably promote the separation and transport of US-induced free charges, and further enhance ROS generation in SDT. Meanwhile, the nanoplatform shows multiple enzyme-like activities from MnO x , which can not only downregulate the intracellular glutathione (GSH) level, but also disintegrate endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) to generate oxygen (O 2) and hydroxyl radicals (•OH). As a result, the anticancer nanoplatform substantially boosts ROS generation and reverses tumor hypoxia. Ultimately, it reveals remarkable biocompatibility and tumor suppression in a murine model of 4 T1 breast cancer under US irradiation. A pH-responsive core-shell nanocage composed of CaCO 3 nanolayer and heterogeneous CoP core (CaCO 3 @CoP, CCP) is fabricated to amplify the synergy of CDT and calcium overload. [Display omitted] Recently, with the rational design of transition metal-containing nanoagents, chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has been developed and considered a promising method for cancer therapy through Fenton and Fenton-like reaction-induced hydroxyl radical (·OH) generation and cellular oxidative damage. However, it is still a great challenge to realize high reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and therapeutic efficiency under the strict conditions of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Herein, we design and fabricate a TME-responsive core-shell nanocage composed of a CaCO 3 nanolayer and a heterogeneous CoP core (CaCO 3 @CoP, CCP) with the synergy of CDT and calcium overload to maximize oxidative damage and enhance cancer therapy. The CaCO 3 nanoshell is sensitive to pH and can be rapidly degraded upon endocytosis, leading to intracellular Ca2+ accumulation, which further triggers the production of mitochondrial ROS. Subsequently, the CoP hollow nanocage with fully exposed Co active sites has high Fenton-like reactive activity to produce ·OH and induce mitochondrial damage. Mitochondrial damage and ROS elevation, in turn, can modulate Ca2+ dynamics and augment calcium overload. The reciprocal interaction and loop feedback between calcium overload and photoenhanced ROS generation via photothermal therapy (PTT) can further trigger the immunogenic cell death (ICD) process to activate the maturation of dendritic cells (DCs), activation of cytotoxic and helper T cells, and excretion of proinflammatory cytokines to enhance antitumor immunity in vivo. The formation of interfacial chemical bonding in heterostructures plays an important role in the transport of carriers. Herein, we firstly prepared ultrathin InVO 4 nanosheet (Ns) with a thickness of 1.5 nm. Diethylenetriamine-modified CdSe (CdSe-DETA) nanobelts are in-situ deposited on the surface of ultrathin InVO 4 Ns to build a InVO 4 /CdSe-DETA step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction photocatalysts. The protonated DETA acts as an amine-bridge to promote the formation of a tight chemical bond at the interface of InVO 4 /CdSe-DETA, thereby promoting the transfer of carriers at the interface. For photocatalytic CO 2 reduction, the rationally designed InVO 4 /CdSe-DETA S-scheme photocatalyst exhibits a remarkable CO generation rate of 27.9 µmol h−1 g−1 at 420 nm, which is 3.35 and 3.39 times higher than that of CdSe-DETA and InVO 4 Ns, respectively. Low redox ability and severe photocorrosion limit the photocatalytic activity of metal sulfides. Herein, step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction composited by diethylenetriamine (DETA) ammoniated MnS (α-MnS) and Bi 2 MoO 6 with Bi surface plasmon resonance (SPR) was successfully fabricated (Bi-5 %M/BMO). This special electron transport structure effectively suppresses the photocorrosion of α-MnS and makes photocatalysts with high redox ability. DETA was protonated to form positively charged ammonium ions and they are easy to combine with acid gas CO 2 , reducing the activation energy of CO 2 , building an efficient catalytic reaction system, and improving CO 2 reduction efficiency. The CO evolution rate of Bi-5 %M/BMO (61.11 μmol g-1h−1) is 2.42, 7.89 and 5.01 times greater than that of 5 %M/BMO, pure α-MnS hollow spheres and Bi 2 MoO 6 , respectively. This indicates that Bi SPR effect can promote the separation of photon-generated electron-hole pairs dramatically.
