The Shanghai Enterprise Exchange, which will serve as an electronic marketplace for foreign and Chinese investors in Chinese companies, expects to be fully-operational by May 1994. The Exchange's president, Gong Jiemin, recently announced that 220 companies with a total value of $230 million have already been listed on the exchange, with another 109 companies to be added soon thereafter. The establishment of the exchange is part of China's efforts to restructure its corporate base and attract more currency investments.
