This letter to the editor discusses the successful treatment of a 16-year-old boy with concurrent vitiligo and atopic dermatitis using the JAK inhibitor upadacitinib. The article explains that vitiligo is a depigmentation disorder caused by the destruction of melanocytes, and atopic dermatitis is characterized by a type 2 immune response. The authors suggest that there may be a potential association between vitiligo and atopic dermatitis due to overlapping genetic and immune mechanisms. The patient in the case study experienced repigmentation and relief from symptoms after treatment with upadacitinib.
