We study the existence and uniqueness of solution of a evolutionary partial differential equation originating from the continuum limit of a coupled process of totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) and Langmuir kinetics (LK). In the fields of physics and biology, the TASEP-LK coupled process has been extensively studied by Monte Carlo simulations, numerical computations, and detailed experiments. However, no rigorous mathematical analysis so far has been given for the corresponding differential equations, especially the existence and uniqueness of their solutions. In this paper, we prove the existence of the C ∞ [ 0 , 1 ] steady-state solution by the method of upper and lower solution, and the uniqueness in both W 1 , 2 (0 , 1) and L ∞ (0 , 1) by a generalized maximum principle. We further prove the global existence and uniqueness of the time-dependent solution in C ([ 0 , 1 ] × [ 0 , + ∞)) ∩ C 2 , 1 ([ 0 , 1 ] × (0 , + ∞)) , which, for any continuous initial value, converges to the steady-state solution in C [ 0 , 1 ] (global attractivity). Our results support the numerical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, and provide theoretical foundations for the TASEP-LK coupled process, especially the most important phase diagram of particle density along the travel track under different model parameters, which is difficult because the boundary layers (at one or both boundaries) and domain wall (separating high and low particle densities) may appear as the length of the travel track tends to infinity. The methods used in this paper may be instructive for studies of the more general cases of the TASEP-LK process, such as the one with multiple travel tracks and/or multiple particle species. • The normal form formula of double-Hopf bifurcation is generated for general differential equations with the nonlocality. • The formula is applicable to functional differential equations and partial differential equations with or without the nonlocality. • The algorithm is favourable to reveal complex dynamics, e.g. periodic, quasi-periodic and multi-periodic oscillations. • Stable spatially nonhomogeneous periodic and quasi-periodic solutions are found in a nonlocal predator-prey model. This paper is concerned with the calculation of the normal form on the center manifold up to the third-order term at the double-Hopf singularity for general partial functional differential equations with the nonlocal effect. We derive explicit formulas of the normal form, that can be applied for both functional differential equations and partial differential equations with or without nonlocal effects in a bounded spatial domain. This provides an effective tool to establish existences of multi-periodic and quasi-periodic oscillations of a double-Hopf singularity for such equations. As an example, the Holling-Tanner predator-prey model with the nonlocal intraspecific competition of prey is considered. It turns out that double-Hopf bifurcation will occur because of the nonlocal interaction. Many spatio-temporal dynamics are found, including stable spatially homogeneous or nonhomogeneous periodic solutions, and stable spatially nonhomogeneous quasi-periodic solutions. Abstract Spatially localized patterns have been observed in numerous physical contexts, and their bifurcation diagrams often exhibit similar snaking behavior: symmetric solution branches, connected by bifurcating asymmetric solution branches, wind back and forth in an appropriate parameter. Previous papers have addressed existence of such solutions; here we address their stability, taking the necessary first step of unifying existence and uniqueness proofs for symmetric and asymmetric solutions. We then show that, under appropriate assumptions, temporal eigenvalues of the front and back underlying a localized solution are added with multiplicity in the right half plane. In a companion paper, we analyze the behavior of eigenvalues at λ = 0 and inside the essential spectrum. Our results show that localized snaking solutions are stable if, and only if, the underlying fronts and backs are stable: unlike localized non-oscillatory solutions, no interaction eigenvalues are present. The temperature-dependent incompressible nematic liquid crystal flows in a bounded domain Ω ⊂ R N ( N = 2 , 3 ) are studied in this paper. Following Danchin's method in [7] , we use a localization argument to recover the maximal regularity of Stokes equation with variable viscosity, by which we first prove the local existence of a unique strong solution, then extend it to a global one provided that the initial data is a sufficiently small perturbation around the trivial equilibrium state. We consider the Cauchy problem for a multidimensional scalar conservation law and construct an outer estimate for the domain of dependence of its Kružkov solution. The estimate can be represented as the controllability set of a specific differential inclusion. In addition, reachable sets of this inclusion provide outer estimates for the support of the wave profiles. Both results follow from a modified version of the classical Kružkov uniqueness theorem, which we also present in the paper. In this paper, we explain in more details the modern treatment of the problem of group classification of (systems of) partial differential equations (PDEs) from the algorithmic point of view. More precisely, we revise the classical Lie algorithm of construction of symmetries of differential equations, describe the group classification algorithm and discuss the process of reduction of (systems of) PDEs to (systems of) equations with smaller number of independent variables in order to construct invariant solutions. The group classification algorithm and reduction process are illustrated by the example of the generalized Zakharov–Kuznetsov (GZK) equations of form u t + ( F ( u ) ) x x x + ( G ( u ) ) x y y + ( H ( u ) ) x = 0 . As a result, a complete group classification of the GZK equations is performed and a number of new interesting nonlinear invariant models which have non-trivial invariance algebras are obtained. Lie symmetry reductions and exact solutions for two important invariant models, i.e., the classical and modified Zakharov–Kuznetsov equations, are constructed. This paper is concerned with the degenerate initial–boundary value problem to the one-dimensional nonlinear wave equation u t t = ( ( 1 + u ) a u x ) x which arises in a number of various physical contexts. The global existence of smooth solutions to the degenerate problem was established under relaxed conditions on the initial–boundary data by the characteristic decomposition method. Moreover, we show that the solution is uniformly C 1 , α continuous up to the degenerate boundary and the degenerate curve is C 1 , α continuous for α ∈ ( 0 , min ⁡ { a 1 + a , 1 1 + a } ) . Optimal partial mass transport, which is a variant of the optimal transport problem, consists in transporting effectively a prescribed amount of mass from a source to a target. The problem was first studied by Caffarelli and McCann (2010) [6] and Figalli (2010) [12] with a particular attention to the quadratic cost. Our aim here is to study the optimal partial mass transport problem with Finsler distance costs including the Monge cost given by the Euclidian distance. Our approach is different and our results do not follow from previous works. Among our results, we introduce a PDE of Monge–Kantorovich type with a double obstacle to characterize active submeasures, Kantorovich potential and optimal flow for the optimal partial transport problem. This new PDE enables us to study the uniqueness and monotonicity results for the active submeasures. In this paper, we find that the unbounded spaces Y σ ( R N ) ( 0 < σ < 2 m − 1 ) can provide the work spaces where complicated asymptotic behavior appears in the solutions of the Cauchy problem of the porous medium equation. To overcome the difficulties caused by the nonlinearity of the equation and the unbounded solutions, we establish the propagation estimates, the growth estimates and the weighted L 1 – L ∞ estimates for the solutions. In this paper we introduce and study an optimal control problem in the Mayer's form in the space of probability measures on R n endowed with the Wasserstein distance. Our aim is to study optimality conditions when the knowledge of the initial state and velocity is subject to some uncertainty, which are modeled by a probability measure on R d and by a vector-valued measure on R d , respectively. We provide a characterization of the value function of such a problem as unique solution of an Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation in the space of measures in a suitable viscosity sense. Abstract: Let X be a Banach space whose dual space is uniformly convex. We demonstrate that, for any demicontinuous, weakly Nagumo, k-pseudo-contractive mapping with closed domain, weakly generates a semigroup on . In this paper, we project the consequences of this result on fixed point theory. In particular, we show that if (id est, if T is strongly pseudo-contractive), then T has a unique fixed point. This implies that, if T is pseudo-contractive () and is closed, bounded, and convex, then T has at least one fixed point. Consequently, any demicontinuous pseudo-contractive mapping (for an appropriate C) has a fixed point, which has been an important open question in fixed point theory for quite some time. In a subsequent paper, we explore the consequences of the semigroup result on the existence of solutions to certain partial differential equations. The semigroup result directly implies the existence of unique global solutions to time evolution equations of the form where A is a combination of derivatives. This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solution to the Cahn–Hilliard equation subject to the following dynamic boundary conditions: and the initial condition where Ω is a bounded domain in Rn (n⩽3) with smooth boundary Γ , and Γs>0, σs>0, gs>0, hs are given constants; Δ|| is the tangential Laplacian operator, and ν is the outward normal direction to the boundary.This problem has been considered in the recent paper by Racke and Zheng (Adv. Differential Equations 8 (1) (2003) 83) where the global existence and uniqueness were proved. In a very recent manuscript by Prüss, Racke and Zheng (Konstanzer Schrift. Math. Inform. 189 (2003)) the results on existence of global attractor and maximal regularity of solution have been obtained. The classification is defined through an order derived from X . Let X = X y be the associated differential polynomial, the order is defined as the order of a differential ideal Λ that is an essential extension of { X } . The main result shows the order can only be four possible values: 0, 1, 2, 3, or ∞. Furthermore, when the order is finite, the essential extension Λ = { X , A } , where A is a differential polynomial with coefficients obtained through a rational solution of a partial differential equation given explicitly by coefficients of X . This paper is concerned with the critical conditions of nonlinear elliptic equations and the corresponding integral equations involving Riesz potentials and Bessel potentials. We show that the equations and some energy functionals are invariant under the scaling transformation if and only if the critical conditions hold. In addition, the Pohozaev identity shows that those critical conditions are the necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of the finite energy positive solutions. Finally, we discuss respectively the existence of the negative solutions of the k -Hessian equations in the subcritical case, critical case and supercritical case. Abstract: This paper presents a partial classification for type-changing symplectic Monge–Ampère partial differential equations (PDEs) that possess an infinite set of first-order intermediate PDEs. The normal forms will be quasi-linear evolution equations whose types change from hyperbolic to either parabolic or to zero. The zero points can be viewed as analogous to singular points in ordinary differential equations. In some cases, intermediate PDEs can be used to establish existence of solutions for ill-posed initial value problems. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A question raised by Ni and Serrin in [W.-M. Ni, J. Serrin, Existence and non-existence theorems for ground states for quasilinear partial differential equations, Atti Convegni Lincei 77 (1985) 231–257] is whether or not ground state solutions exist for . In this paper we prove the existence of a large, finite number of ground states with fast decay as provided that q lies below but close enough to the critical exponent . Abstract: We study a large time behavior of a solution to the initial boundary value problem for an isentropic and compressible viscous fluid in a one-dimensional half space. The unique existence and the asymptotic stability of a stationary solution are proved by S. Kawashima, S. Nishibata and P. Zhu for an outflow problem where the fluid blows out through the boundary. The main concern of the present paper is to investigate a convergence rate of a solution toward the stationary solution. For the supersonic flow at spatial infinity, we obtain an algebraic or an exponential decay rate. Precisely, if an initial perturbation decays with the algebraic or the exponential rate in the spatial asymptotic point, the solution converges to the corresponding stationary solution with the same rate in time as time tends to infinity. Abstract: This paper deals with the existence of curved front solution of a partial differential equation coming from a mathematical model of stroke. The equation is of reaction–diffusion type in a cylinder of radius R and of diffusion and absorption type outside of the cylinder. We prove the nonexistence of a travelling front when R is small enough and the existence if R is large enough using a recent energy method. We construct the travelling front as the limit in time of a solution with a well-chosen initial condition, in a travelling referential. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: We construct solutions for 2- and 3-D stochastic nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier–Stokes equations with general multiplicative noise. These equations model the velocity of a mixture of incompressible fluids of varying density, influenced by random external forces that involve feedback; that is, multiplicative noise. Weak solutions for the corresponding deterministic equations were first found by Kazhikhov [A.V. Kazhikhov, Solvability of the initial and boundary-value problem for the equations of motion of an inhomogeneous viscous incompressible fluid, Soviet Phys. Dokl. 19 (6) (1974) 331–332; English translation of the paper in: Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 216 (6) (1974) 1240–1243]. A stochastic version with additive noise was solved by Yashima [H.F. Yashima, Equations de Navier–Stokes stochastiques non homogènes et applications, Thesis, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, 1992]. The methods here extend the Loeb space techniques used to obtain the first general solutions of the stochastic Navier–Stokes equations with multiplicative noise in the homogeneous case [M. Capiński, N.J. Cutland, Stochastic Navier–Stokes equations, Applicandae Math. 25 (1991) 59–85]. The solutions display more regularity in the 2D case. Abstract: Under a certain restriction, singular first-order linear partial differential equations of nilpotent type with two variables are divided into two classes. In the previous paper Part I, we dealt with the one class, and comprehended that there was a close affinity between the Borel summability of divergent solutions and global analytic continuation properties for coefficients. In this Part II, we give a similar consideration on the other class. Abstract: The semilinear parabolic system that describes the evolution of the gene frequencies in the diffusion approximation for migration and selection at a multiallelic locus without dominance is investigated. The population occupies a finite habitat of arbitrary dimensionality and shape (i.e., a bounded, open domain in ). The selection coefficients depend on position; the drift and diffusion coefficients may depend on position. The primary focus of this paper is the dependence of the evolution of the gene frequencies on λ, the strength of selection relative to that of migration. It is proved that if migration is sufficiently strong (i.e., λ is sufficiently small) and the migration operator is in divergence form, then the allele with the greatest spatially averaged selection coefficient is ultimately fixed. The stability of each vertex (i.e., an equilibrium with exactly one allele present) is completely specified. The stability of each edge equilibrium (i.e., one with exactly two alleles present) is fully described when either (i) migration is sufficiently weak (i.e., λ is sufficiently large) or (ii) the equilibrium has just appeared as λ increases. The existence of unexpected, complex phenomena is established: even if there are only three alleles and migration is homogeneous and isotropic (corresponding to the Laplacian), (i) as λ increases, arbitrarily many changes of stability of the edge equilibria and corresponding appearance of an internal equilibrium can occur and (ii) the conditions for protection or loss of an allele can both depend nonmonotonically on λ. Abstract: In this paper, by using the argument in [Q.F. Ma, S.H. Wang, C.K. Zhong, Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of global attractor for semigroup and application, Indiana Univ. Math. J., 51(6) (2002), 1541–1559.], we prove that the condition given in [S. Zhou, Attractors and approximations for lattice dynamical systems, J. Differential Equations 200 (2004) 342–368.] for the existence of a global attractor for the semigroup associated with general lattice systems on a discrete Hilbert space is a sufficient and necessary condition. As an application, we consider the existence of a global attractor for a second-order lattice system in a discrete weighted space containing all bounded sequences. Finally, we show that the global attractor for first-order and partly dissipative lattice systems corresponding to (partly dissipative) reaction–diffusion equations and second-order dissipative lattice systems corresponding to the strongly damped wave equations have finite fractal dimension if the derivative of the nonlinear term is small at the origin. Abstract: The aim of the paper is to prove optimal results on local and global uniform convergence of solutions to elliptic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions on varying domains. We assume that the limit domain be stable in the sense of Keldyš [Amer. Math. Soc. Transl. 51 (1966) 1–73]. We further assume that the approaching domains satisfy a necessary condition in the inside of the limit domain, and only require -convergence outside. As a consequence, uniform and -convergence are the same in the trivial case of homogenisation of a perforated domain. We are also able to deal with certain cracking domains. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: It is known that any periodic orbit of a Lipschitz ordinary differential equation must have period at least , where is the Lipschitz constant of . In this paper, we prove a similar result for the semilinear evolution equation : for each with there exists a constant such that if is the Lipschitz constant of as a map from into then any periodic orbit has period at least . Abstract: In this paper, we study the local existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to a wide class of systems of chemotaxis equations. These systems are essentially quasi-linear strongly coupled partial differential equations. We also study the maximal interval of existence in time of solutions. In an earlier paper of the author''s, partial differential equations with constant coefficients have been studied. Under a certain (restrictive) assumption upon the equation, those initial conditions were characterized for which the normalized formal solution of a corresponding Cauchy problem is k-summable. Here we treat the general situation and prove an analogous result, using multisummability instead of k-summability. The appropriate multisummability type is shown to depend upon the given PDE only, and can be determined from a corresponding Newton polygon. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
