Abstract Spatially localized patterns have been observed in numerous physical contexts, and their bifurcation diagrams often exhibit similar snaking behavior: symmetric solution branches, connected by bifurcating asymmetric solution branches, wind back and forth in an appropriate parameter. Previous papers have addressed existence of such solutions; here we address their stability, taking the necessary first step of unifying existence and uniqueness proofs for symmetric and asymmetric solutions. We then show that, under appropriate assumptions, temporal eigenvalues of the front and back underlying a localized solution are added with multiplicity in the right half plane. In a companion paper, we analyze the behavior of eigenvalues at λ = 0 and inside the essential spectrum. Our results show that localized snaking solutions are stable if, and only if, the underlying fronts and backs are stable: unlike localized non-oscillatory solutions, no interaction eigenvalues are present. Abstract The goal of this paper is to develop the Equivariant Degree based method for studying relative periodic solutions in the setiings with lack of smoothness and/or genericity. In this paper, we consider an equivariant Hopf bifurcation of relative periodic solutions from relative equilibria in systems of functional differential equations respecting Γ × S 1 -spatial symmetries. The existence of branches of relative periodic solutions together with their symmetric classification is established using the equivariant twisted Γ × S 1 -degree with one free parameter. As a case study, we consider a delay differential model of coupled identical passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers with the dihedral symmetry group Γ = D 8 ; and, a system of hysterestic electro-mechanical oscillators coupled in the same symmetric fashion. In this paper, we take advantage of the averaging theory to investigate a torus bifurcation in two-parameter families of 2 D nonautonomous differential equations. Our strategy consists in looking for generic conditions on the averaged functions that ensure the existence of a curve in the parameter space characterized by a Neimark-Sacker bifurcation in the corresponding Poincaré map. A Neimark-Sacker bifurcation for planar maps consists in the birth of an invariant closed curve from a fixed point, as the fixed point changes stability. In this paper we establish bifurcation theory of limit cycles for planar C k smooth autonomous differential systems, with k ∈ N . The key point is to study the smoothness of bifurcation functions which are basic and important tool on the study of Hopf bifurcation at a fine focus or a center, and of Poincaré bifurcation in a period annulus. We especially study the smoothness of the first order Melnikov function in degenerate Hopf bifurcation at an elementary center. As we know, the smoothness problem was solved for analytic and C ∞ differential systems, but it was not tackled for finitely smooth differential systems. This paper studies the Neumann problem of a nonlocal Allen–Cahn equation in an interval. A main result finds a symmetry breaking (secondary) bifurcation point on the bifurcation curve of solutions with odd-symmetry. Our proof is based on a level set analysis for the associated integral map. A method using the complete elliptic integrals proves the uniqueness of secondary bifurcation point. In this paper we find an upper bound for the maximum number of limit cycles bifurcating from the periodic orbits of any planar polynomial quasi-homogeneous center, which can be obtained using first order averaging method. This result improves the upper bounds given in [7] . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We discussed in a previous paper elliptic systems of partial differential equations on star-shaped domains and introduced the notions of conjugate radius and bifurcation radius. We proved that every bifurcation radius is a conjugate radius, and believed to have shown by an example that on the other hand not every conjugate radius is a bifurcation radius. Consider planar real polynomial differential equations of the form x ˙ = L x + X n ( x ) , where x = ( x , y ) ∈ R 2 , L is a 2 × 2 matrix and X n is a homogeneous vector field of degree n > 1 . Most known results about these equations, valid for infinitely many n , deal with the case where the origin is a focus or a node and give either non-existence of limit cycles or upper bounds of one or two limit cycles surrounding the origin. In this paper we improve some of these results and moreover we show that for n ≥ 3 odd there are equations of this form having at least ( n + 1 ) / 2 limit cycles surrounding the origin. Our results include cases where the origin is a focus, a node, a saddle or a nilpotent singularity. We also discuss a mechanism for the bifurcation of limit cycles from infinity.
