Granulated phorate, applied at 2 lb toxicant per acre in the furrow into which strawberry plants were transplanted, provided effective control of two-spotted spider mites, Tetranychus urticae Koch, for approximately 6 months. The resulting plant protection was almost season long for annual strawberries transplanted in November. However, strawberries transplanted in August were not protected against spring mite infestations by this method. Releases of predaceous mites might be timed to coincide with the loss of effectiveness of transplant furrow applications of phorate to provide season-long two-spotted spider mite control on August transplants. Fairly effective (70%) mite control was provided by foliar sprays of dicofol or dimethoate at 1.0 lb per acre, binapacryl at 1.5 lb per acre, and tetradifon + tepp at 1.0 + 2.0 lb per acre, respectively.
