Hemadas nubilipennis Ashmead has been isolated as the specific cause of the pinkish, kidney-shaped galls on the stems of low-bush blueberries growing in Maine. This insect is capable of causing severe injury through a reduction in the fruiting surface of the plants, but the gall-maker has been held in check by the cultural practice of burning over the blueberry fields in rotation every second or third year.
