Background: Infectious Keratitis (Ik) Is A Potential Vision-Threatening Ocular Infection Caused By A Variety Of Microorganisms. Aim: To Explore Risk Factors And Etiological Agents Associated With Ik. Design: A Prospective Cross-Sectional Study In Which Corneal Scrapings From 120 Suspected Cases Were Evaluated At A Tertiary Health Care Institute From January To December 2019. Methods: Scrapings Were Subjected To Direct Microscopy, Culture, And Identification By Both Conventional Methods And Maldi-Tof-Ms. The Patient's Demographic Data And Predisposing Factors, If Any Were Recorded. Results: The Mean Age Of Patients Was 48.9 Years And Predisposing Factors Were Documented In 46% (55/120) Of Cases. Overall, Infective Etiology Could Be Established In 51% (N = 61/120) Of Cases. Fungal Growth In 26% (N = 31/120) Of Cases And Bacterial Growth In 22% (N = 27/120) Of Cases Was Obtained. Growth Of More Than One Species Of Fungi Or Growth Of Bacteria Along With Fungus Were Observed In 2% (N = 3/120) Of Cases. Of All The Fungal Isolates Obtained (N = 34), The Most Common Isolate Was Fusarium (18/34) Followed By Aspergillus (8/34), Curvularia (4/34), Pseudallescheria Boydii (3/34), And Geotrichum (1/34). Among The Gram-Positive Bacterial Isolates (N = 16), Staphyloccus Species (15/16) Were Isolated In Maximum Number Followed By Streptococcus Pneumoniae (1/16). Among The Gram-Negative Isolates (N = 13), Pseudomonas Species (8/13) Were Isolated In Maximum Number Of Cases, Followed By Acinetobacter (3/13), Klebsiella Pneumoniae (1/13), And Escherichia Coli (1/13). Conclusion: For Initiating Appropriate Empirical Therapy, The Knowledge Of The Epidemiological Pattern Of Infectious Keratitis Of A Particular Geographical Region Is Crucial.

Background: Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain with a permanent predisposition to produce epileptic seizures. There are cognitive, psychological, neurological, and social causes of this condition. It is the second most common problematic neurologic disorder, affecting more than 70 million people throughout the world. More than 65% of the global burden of epilepsy occurs in developing countries., Objective: To assess medication adherence and quality of life among epilepsy patients and to find any correlation between medication adherence and quality of life., Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on epileptic patients who were seeking treatment at AIIMS Bhopal. Two hundred epileptic patients were enrolled in this study via purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through face-to-face interview method. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: In this study, a total of 200 patients with epilepsy were found to be eligible to participate; there were 23 patients (11.5%) with low medication adherence, 95 patients (47.5%) with moderate medication adherence, and 82 patients (41%) with high medication adherence. Patients with epilepsy who follow recommended treatment have a good quality of life, particularly in the spiritual sector (169; 85%). The overall quality of life is moderate for 142 patients (71%) and good for 58 patients (29%). Medication adherence and quality of life were shown to be strongly positively correlated, with a Karl Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.67., Conclusion: The result of this study concluded that improving medication adherence is important to improving the quality of life among epilepsy patients., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2024 Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care.)

Prenatal supplements are commonly used to support maternal health and fetal development during pregnancy. However, there are concerns regarding their efficacy and safety. This review article provides a critical evaluation of prenatal supplements, including their types, benefits, criticisms, factors affecting their efficacy, and popular brands. It also offers recommendations for their use and identifies future research directions. Our analysis suggests that while prenatal supplements can offer important benefits, including reduced risk of birth defects and improved fetal growth and development, there are also concerns regarding their regulation, dosages, and potential harm to the mother and fetus. Pregnant women should carefully evaluate the ingredients, dosages, efficacy, and safety of prenatal supplements with the guidance of their healthcare provider. Introduction: Injury is a significant global health burden and can result in mortality if not attended to on time. Trauma system refers to a collection of services provided by various super-specialties. According to the WHO-World Bank Report, RTA will rise from ninth place to the third biggest cause of mortality., Materials and Methods: The study was done at Advanced Trauma Centre (ATC) at PGIMER, a teaching hospital of north India. Study included area from most of the patient come for treatment (rural/urban) and injury patterns seen in these patients, which included mode of injury, type of injury, type of road accidents and location of injury., Results and Observations: In maximum cases, 60.2% (245) of the mode of injury was RTA. It was seen that the maximum number of patients, 44.4%, (115) had motorbike/scooter collisions with vehicles. In most patients, the type of injury seen was 35.9% (147) head, neck and back injuries, and in maximum cases, the location of the accident site was road/street 63.2%., Discussion: In our country, where the trauma delivery system is poorly developed, teaching hospitals have to bear the burden of treating many patients. No concept of emergency medicine or trauma care is in use, even in urban areas. Medical research is an important aspect of medical education and is required to maintain quality. Funding can assist a researcher in doing extensive research in a certain area by boosting study variables, sample size and use of sophisticated state-of-the-art equipments. India's funding for health research is limited, and only a small percentage of that is used for public health research. Many health professionals have a lot of great ideas for health-related research but do not know where to start looking for financing. A review was created to help medical and nursing professionals to find the correct funding source for their research. There are many governments' organisations in India, which provide funds for research, grants and higher learning research fellowships. We tried to give an overview of some organisations with their benefits. Background: Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a significant public health problem. Health care professionals can play an important role in the identification and reporting of such cases. This study was conducted to assess the awareness level among doctors working in a medical Institute about CSA., Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data was collected using a closed-ended structured questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was done to compute percentages and frequencies. Respondents' educational qualification, as well as the relationship between their level of education and their awareness of child abuse, was also assessed., Results: Nearly 70% of respondents came across child abuse cases, wherein sexual abuse was found to be the commonest (58%), followed by physical abuse (28%). Nearly 40% of child abuse cases were reported in the hospital where they worked, while 15% of child abuse cases occurred in other hospital areas. The study also revealed that 81% of respondents had knowledge about child sexual abuse. However, only 34% were aware of the repercussions of non-reporting of a child abuse case. Nearly 64% of respondents had an idea about an online complaint system for child abuse, and 70% were aware of the availability of a one-stop centre at a respondent's hospital. The majority (68%) were aware of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act on sexual abuse. Introduction: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic created havoc within a few weeks of its outbreak affecting over 100 countries. The rapid increase in the established cases urged for the prevention and control of COVID-19 belligerently on both national and worldwide fronts to prevent the healthcare systems from collapsing. For the sake of successfully preventing and restricting a fatal pandemic outbreak such as COVID-19, it requires the apex health institutions to have a uniform, urgent, flexible and effective policy response framework ensuring strict adherence too. In this regard, the Apex Institutes of National Importance in India (INIs) have released a series of documents on COVID-19 prevention and management., Methods: Documents regarding COVID-19 preparedness and management were retrieved from the official websites of the INIs in India. The general population and healthcare workers' guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs) on COVID-19 prevention and management, action and response plans were included in the study. The full text of each document was analysed in detail and themes and subthemes were derived through content analysis., Results: A total of 68 documents was included in the study. Five major themes and 12 subthemes were formulated after content analysis. A major similarity was found across all INIs on screening and testing and infection prevention control measures. The INIs formulated guidelines adhering to the World Health Organization, Indian Council of Medical Research and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Recommendations., Conclusion: Common measures like quarantine, social distancing, travel bans and mass gathering restrictions were adopted to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the initial period. The INIs have developed policies and standard operating protocols on COVID-19 management based on the Government of India guidelines.
