In this paper, the authors posit that therapists (beginning and experienced) have a propensity for being self-deprecating and critical. Following Bandura's (1977, 1986) theory of perceived self-efficacy, when this becomes reinforced by a supervisor, therapists lose their sense of self-efficacy as a therapist, and their competence suffers accordingly. In an effort to foster improved perceived self-efficacy, the authors apply solution-focused and constructive methods of therapy to the context of clinical supervision. Several case illustrations are presented compromising goal construction and the development of the supervisory relationship, co-constructing competence and confidence, circumventing impasses, the role of teaching and education in supervision, and the potential paradox of evaluation. The author discusses a hidden message activity designed for 7- to 11-year-old children who have been dealing with anxiety, academic problems or behavioral issues. She explores incorporating science in therapeutic intervention strategies for children. She also cites the supplies needed, instructions and various uses of the activity which include enhancing engagement of a child in the therapeutic process and establishing an effective relationship between the child and the therapist.

This article presents the major conceptual and clinical ideas on fathering, religion, and counseling developed by David C. Dollahite and his colleagues. The concepts of generative fathering and generative narrative therapy are presented and illustrated with narratives of religious fathers. These ideas address a number of issues believed important to consider in family therapy with fathers-particularly religious fathers. Concepts are illustrated with personal narratives from two samples of Latter- day Saint (Mormon) fathers of children with special needs. Although the narratives are non-clinical, implications for family therapy from these and related theories and stories are suggested. The article emphasizes father strengths, the power of religion to assist fathers in challenging circumstances, and the importance of therapists' sensitivity to spiritual and religious matters. "Compass" sentences or mantras can increase under- standing of how cognitive processes apply in psychotherapy in general. The Elementary Pragmatic Model may lead to the interpretation of individual and relational processes particularly useful in family therapy. The model provides a procedure to choose sentences with a strong psychological impact (SISCI-Sentences) through three presentations. These sentences can widen participants' cognitive horizons and provide means of understanding cognitive functions according to the EPM.
