Abstract

The article focuses on a survey on the insertion of prion protein (PRNP) and the deletion of polymorphisms in Korean cattle. It is said that the polymorphisms of the PRNP gene, which exists in all vertebrates, are linked to the susceptibility to prion diseases among humans. Under the study, 437 blood samples have been taken from cattle in South Korea, after which genomic deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has been isolated. Results indicate that Korean cattle is no more susceptible to bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) than other cattle populations.
