The welding of 45 steel and 0Crl8Ni9 stainless steel was done under different Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) parameters, and the microstructure and micro-hardness of the joints were examined. We optimized SPS parameters namely welding temperature, holding time and axial pressure through grey relational analysis with the considerations of multiple performance characteristics including width of diffusion zone, micro-hardness in diffusion zone and micro-hardness in weld zone. The result indicated that the SPS welding process could be improved effectively through this approach, which was useful in the optimization of SPS parameters for dissimilar steel welding.
