Bacterial biofilms have evoked worldwide attention owing to their serious threats to public health, but how to effectively eliminate bacterial biofilms still remains great challenges. Here, we rationally designed a novel and vigorous chitosan grafted Fe-doped-carbon dots (CS@Fe/CDs) as an efficient artificial nanozyme to combat rigid bacterial biofilms through the selective activation of Fenton-like reaction-triggered peroxidase-like catalytic activity and the synergistic antibacterial activity of CS. On the one hand, the peroxidase-like catalytic activity made CS@Fe/CDs catalyze H 2 O 2 for producing hydroxyl radicals (•OH), resulting in efficient cleavage of extracellular DNA (eDNA). On the other hand, CS was capable of binding with the negatively charged cell membrane through electrostatic interaction, changing the cell membrane permeability and causing cell death within bacterial biofilms. Based on their synergistic effects, the fragments of bacterial biofilm and exposed bacteria were persistently eradicated. Remarkably, CS@Fe/CDs-based nanozyme not only enabled the effective destroying of gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) biofilms, but also completely eliminated gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) biofilms, showing great potential as a promising anti-biofilm agent against bacteria biofilms. This proposed synergistic strategy for bacterial biofilm eradication might offer a powerful modality to manage of bacterial biofilm fouling in food safety and environmental protection. As lithium metal resource supply and demand stabilize and prices decrease, the efficient recovery of valuable metals other than lithium from spent lithium-ion batteries is receiving increasing attention. Currently, challenges remain in the selective lithium recovery efficiency and the high cost of regenerating valuable metal slag after lithium extraction, particularly for spent ternary cathode materials. To address these challenges, this study introduces a closed-loop recovery process for spent ternary cathode materials, employing sulfur-assisted roasting to achieve efficient lithium extraction and high-value direct regeneration of ternary leaching residues. At moderate temperatures (500 ℃), LiNi x Co y Mn 1−x-y O 2 (NCM) materials undergo a directional transformation of lithium to Li 2 SO 4 in synergy with sulfur and oxygen, achieving a lithium leaching extraction rate of 98.91 %. Additionally, the relatively mild reaction conditions preserve the secondary spherical morphology and uniform distribution of NiCoMn-based oxide residue without introducing adverse impurities, ensuring the successful regeneration of high-value NCM cathode materials (R-NCM). The R-NCM material exhibits good discharge capacity (144.3 mA·h/g at 1 C) and relatively stable cycling performance, with a capacity retention rate of 80 % after 150 cycles. This work provides a viable pathway for the efficient and environmental-friendly pyrometallurgical closed-loop recovery of spent lithium-ion batteries. Selective adsorption by use of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is an effective method for purification of hydrocarbon fuels. In consideration that the adsorption processes proceed in liquid phases, separation and recycling of adsorbents should be greatly facilitated if MOFs were endowed with magnetism. In the present study, we reported for the first time a dry gel conversion (DGC) strategy to fabricate magnetically responsive MOFs as adsorbents for deep desulfurization and denitrogenation. The solvent is separated from the solid materials in the DGC strategy, and vapor is generated at elevated temperatures to induce the growth of MOFs around magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles. This strategy can greatly simplify the complicated procedures of the well-known layer-by-layer method and avoid the blockage of pores confronted by introducing magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles to the pores of MOFs. Our results show that the adsorbents are capable of efficiently removing aromatic sulfur and nitrogen compounds from model fuels, for example removing 0.62 mmol g −1 S and 0.89 mmol g −1 N of thiophene and indole, respectively. In addition, the adsorbents are facile to separate from liquid phases by use of an external field. After 6 cycles, the adsorbents still show a good adsorption capacity that is comparable to the fresh one. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Chitin grafted poly (acrylic acid) (chi-g-PAA) is synthesized and characterized as an adsorbent of toxic organic compounds. Chi-g-PAA copolymers are prepared using of ammonium cerium (IV) nitrate (Ce4+) as the initiator. The highest grafting percentage of AA in chitin obtained using the traditional technique is 163.1%. A maximum grafting percentage of 230.6% is obtained using central composite design (CCD). Experimental results are consistent with theoretical calculations. The grafted copolymer is characterized by Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy and solid state 13C NMR. A representative chi-g-AA copolymer is hydrolyzed to a type of sodium salt (chi-g-PANa) and used in the adsorption of malachite green (MG), methyl violet (MV), and paraquat (PQ) in aqueous. The monolayer adsorption capacities of these substances are 285.7, 357.1, and 322.6mg/g-adsorbent, respectively. Thermodynamic calculations show that the adsorption of MG, MV, and PQ are more favored at diluted solutions. The high adsorption capacity of chi-g-PANa for toxic matter indicates its potential in the treatment of wastewater and emergency treatment of PQ-poisoned patients. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Methacrylic acid (MAA) grafted rice husk was synthesized using graft copolymerization with Fenton''s reagent as the redox initiator and applied to the adsorption of paraquat. The highest grafting percentage of 44.3% was obtained using the traditional kinetic method. However, a maximum grafting percentage of 65.3% was calculated using the central composite design. Experimental results based on the recipes predicted from the statistical analysis are consistent with theoretical calculations. A representative polymethacrylic acid-g-rice husk (PMAA-g-rice husk) copolymer was hydrolyzed to a salt type and applied to the adsorption of paraquat. The adsorption equilibrium data correlate more closely with the Langmuir isotherm than with the Freundlich equation. The maximum adsorption capacity of modified rice husk is 292.5mg/g-adsorbent. This value exceeds those for Fuller''s earth and activated carbon, which are the most common binding agents used for paraquat. The samples at various stages were characterized by solid-state 13C NMR spectroscopy. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
