Abstract

Enaminones and ketoenamines bearing a hydrazine type substituent undergo side chain thermal cyclization, the former into benzoxazol-2 (3H)-one derivatives and the latter into 1, 3, 4-oxadiazol-2 (3H)-one derivatives. Factors affecting such reactions are discussed.

Abstract

The heterocyclization reaction of arylsulfonylhydrazones from alkyl substituted 1,2-cyclohexanediones is sensitive to the steric requirements of the alkyl groups. A mechanism for the cyclization in acidic medium is also reported.

Two diastereoisomeric thietane 1,1-dioxides are formed in the reaction of methanesulfonyl chloride with 4-t-butylcyclohexanone enamines in the presence of triethylaraine. Their structures and relative chemical stabilities are discussed.
