Abstract In a recent work, we calculated all three-loop diagrams contributing to the decay amplitude for b → sγ where none of the gluons touch the b-leg. In the present paper, we complete the calculation by working out all remaining three-loop diagrams (of order α s 2 $$ {\alpha}_s^2 $$ ) associated with the current-current operators O 1 and O 2 at the physical value of the charm-quark mass m c . Using the programs AMFlow and DiffExp to solve the differential equations for the master integrals, we obtained precise numerical results at 23 values for z = m c 2 / m b 2 $$ z={m}_c^2/{m}_b^2 $$ , ranging from z = 1/1000 to z = 1/5, along with asymptotic expansions around z = 0. For certain diagrams, the asymptotic expansion breaks down in the physical z-range, necessitating a Taylor expansion (which we do around z = 1/10). In all expansions, we retained power terms up to z 20 and included the accompanying log(z) terms to all powers for asymptotic expansions. Numerical results for the sum of all diagrams (including those calculated in the previous paper) are presented in tabular form, while the mentioned expansions of individual diagram classes are provided electronically. We note that our results for the asymptotic expansions around z = 0 are in good agreement with those recently published by Fael et al. and Czaja et al.

Abstract This paper shows that the bulk metric of a planar/spherically/hyperbolically symmetric asymptotically anti-de Sitter static black brane/hole can be reconstructed from its boundary frequency 2-point correlation functions of two probe scalar operators by solving Gel’fand-Levitan-Marchenko integral equation. Since the frequency correlation function is easily handled in experiments and theories, this paper not only proposes a new method to “measure” the corresponding holographic spacetime for a material that has holographic dual but also provides an approach to experimentally check if a system has holographic dual.

Abstract Recent years have seen the emergence of a new understanding of scattering amplitudes in the simplest theory of colored scalar particles — the Tr(ϕ 3) theory — based on combinatorial and geometric ideas in the kinematic space of scattering data. In this paper we report a surprise: far from the toy model it appears to be, the “stringy” Tr(ϕ 3) amplitudes secretly contains the scattering amplitudes for pions, as well as non-supersymmetric gluons, in any number of dimensions. The amplitudes for the different theories are given by one and the same function, related by a simple shift of the kinematics. This discovery was spurred by another fundamental observation: the tree-level Tr(ϕ 3) field theory amplitudes have a hidden pattern of zeros when a special set of non-planar Mandelstam invariants is set to zero. These zeros are not manifest in Feynman diagrams but are made obvious by the connection of these amplitudes to the new understanding of associahedra arising from “causal diamonds” in kinematic space. Furthermore, near these zeros, the amplitudes simplify, by factoring into a non-trivial product of smaller amplitudes. Remarkably the amplitudes for pions and gluons are observed to also vanish in the same kinematical locus. These properties for Tr(ϕ 3) amplitudes hold and further generalize to the “stringy” Tr(ϕ 3) amplitudes. The “kinematic causal diamond” picture suggests a unique shift of the kinematic data that preserves the zeros, and this shift is precisely the one that unifies colored scalars, pions, and gluons into a single object. We will focus in this paper on explaining the hidden zeros and factorization properties and the connection between all the colored theories, working for simplicity at tree level. Subsequent works will describe this new formulation for the Non-linear Sigma Model and non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, at all loop orders.

Abstract This paper completes the analysis initiated in the companion work arXiv:2403.02283 — referred to as Paper I — by showing how Vasiliev’s 4D higher-spin gravity (HSG) and 3D coloured conformal matter fields coupled to conformal higher-spin gauge fields and colour gauge fields (coloured conformal HSG, or CCHSG) emerge as consistent reductions of a common parent model. The latter is a Frobenius-Chern-Simons model with superconnection valued in a fractional-spin extension of Vasiliev’s higher-spin algebra, and was defined and studied in Paper I. Here, we i) realize HSG as a subcase of a more general 4D reduction, describing HSG coupled to coloured, fractional-spin matter, which we refer to as 4D fractional-spin gravity; ii) study the CCHSG model, in particular exhibiting the crucial role played by novel colour gauge fields in coupling conformal matter to conformal HSG, thereby completing the models due to Vasiliev and Nilsson; iii) extract conformal currents and composite coloured sources in an expansion of the CCHSG model around 3D Minkowskian leaves; and iv) compare our results with Vasiliev’s holography proposal of arXiv:1203.5554. The common origin of HSG and CCHSG, besides relating the two models directly, is the starting point for establishing the holographic correspondence between the two models via overlap conditions, to be presented separately.

Abstract We develop massive higher-spin theory as a framework for describing dynamics of rotating compact objects, such as Kerr black holes. In this paper, we explore gauge interactions up to quartic order and corresponding Compton amplitudes of higher-spin massive objects coupled to electromagnetism and Yang-Mills theory. Their classical counterparts are known as root-Kerr gauge-theory solutions, whose amplitudes are closely related to those of Kerr black holes. We use three distinct approaches: (i) massive higher-spin gauge symmetry to introduce cubic interactions for all spins and the quartic interactions up to spin 3, which is implemented both off shell and via Ward identities; (ii) a chiral higher-spin approach to construct quartic Lagrangians with correct degrees of freedom to all spins; (iii) on-shell functional patterns before and after taking the classical limit to constrain the Compton amplitudes. As final results, we arrive at simple local formulae for the candidate root-Kerr Compton amplitudes both in the quantum regime and classical limit, to all orders in spin. This is a precursor to the gravitational Kerr case, which is presented in a follow-up paper.

Abstract This paper investigates the relationships between closed and mixed string amplitudes at the tree level in string theory. Through the analytic continuation of complex variables, we establish a factorization of closed string amplitudes into those involving (n − 2) open strings and a single closed string. Expressions for four-, five-, and six-point amplitudes are provided, together with systematic formulations for n-point string amplitudes. The paper addresses possible correction terms arising from integration along infinite tubes during the process of Wick rotations. The implications of our findings are discussed in certain limits.

Abstract We discuss general one and two-loop banana diagrams and one-loop diagrams with external lines with arbitrary masses on the anti de Sitter spacetime by using methods of AdS quantum field theory in the dimensional regularization approach. The banana diagrams explicitly computed in this paper are indeed the necessary ingredients for the evaluation of the two-loop effective potential of the Standard Model and can be used to extend the flat space results in presence of a negative cosmological constant. In the one-loop case we also compute the effective potential for an O(N) model in d = 4 dimension as an explicit function of the cosmological constant Λ, both exactly and perturbatively up to order Λ. In the two-loop case we show the explicit calculation is possible thanks to a remarkable discrete Källén-Lehmann formula which we found and proved sometimes ago and whose domain of applicability we extend in the present paper.

Abstract In this paper, we explore the string theory landscape obtained from type IIB and F-theory flux compactifications. We first give a comprehensive introduction to a number of mathematical finiteness theorems, indicate how they have been obtained, and clarify their implications for the structure of the locus of flux vacua. Subsequently, in order to address finer details of the locus of flux vacua, we propose three mathematically precise conjectures on the expected number of connected components, geometric complexity, and dimensionality of the vacuum locus. With the recent breakthroughs on the tameness of Hodge theory, we believe that they are attainable to rigorous mathematical tools and can be successfully addressed in the near future. The remainder of the paper is concerned with more technical aspects of the finiteness theorems. In particular, we investigate their local implications and explain how infinite tails of disconnected vacua approaching the boundaries of the moduli space are forbidden. To make this precise, we present new results on asymptotic expansions of Hodge inner products near arbitrary boundaries of the complex structure moduli space.

Abstract In this paper, we explore correlators of a series of theories in anti-de Sitter space: we present comprehensive results for interactions involving scalars, gluons, and gravitons in multiple dimensions. One aspect of our investigation is the establishment of an intriguing connection between the kinematic factors of these theories; indeed, such a connection directly relates these theories among themselves and with other theories of higher spin fields. Besides providing several explicit results throughout the paper, we also highlight the interconnections and relationships between these different theories, providing valuable insights into their similarities and distinctions.

Abstract Scattering amplitudes are tempered distributions, which are defined through their action on functions in the Schwartz space S ℝ $$ \mathcal{S}\left(\mathbb{R}\right) $$ by duality. For massless particles, their conformal properties become manifest when considering their Mellin transform. Therefore we need to mathematically well-define the Mellin transform of distributions in the dual space S ′ ℝ + $$ {\mathcal{S}}^{\prime}\left({\mathbb{R}}^{+}\right) $$ . In this paper, we investigate this problem by characterizing the Mellin transform of the Schwartz space S ℝ + $$ \mathcal{S}\left({\mathbb{R}}^{+}\right) $$ . This allows us to rigorously define the Mellin transform of tempered distributions through a Parseval-type relation. Massless celestial amplitudes are then properly defined by taking the Mellin transform of elements in the topological dual of the Schwartz space S ℝ + $$ \mathcal{S}\left({\mathbb{R}}^{+}\right) $$ . We conclude the paper with applications to tree-level graviton celestial amplitudes.

Abstract We study generalized symmetries of quantum field theories in 1+1D generated by topological defect lines with no inverse. This paper follows our companion paper on gapped phases and anomalies associated with these symmetries. In the present work we focus on identifying fusion category symmetries, using both specialized 1+1D methods such as the modular bootstrap and (rational) conformal field theory (CFT), as well as general methods based on gauging finite symmetries, that extend to all dimensions. We apply these methods to c = 1 CFTs and uncover a rich structure. We find that even those c = 1 CFTs with only finite group-like symmetries can have continuous fusion category symmetries, and prove a Noether theorem that relates such symmetries in general to non-local conserved currents. We also use these symmetries to derive new constraints on RG flows between 1+1D CFTs.

Abstract We study a novel geometric expansion for scattering amplitudes in the planar sector of N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 super Yang-Mills theory, in the context of the Amplituhedron which reproduces the all-loop integrand as a canonical differential form on the positive geometry. In a paper by Arkani-Hamed, Henn and one of the authors, it was shown that this result can be recast in terms of negative geometries with a certain hierarchy of loops (closed cycles) in the space of loop momenta, represented by lines in momentum twistor space. One can then calculate an all-loop order result in the approximation where only tree graphs in the space of all loops are considered. Furthermore, using differential equation methods, it is possible to calculate and resum integrated expressions and obtain strong coupling results. In this paper, we provide a more general framework for the ‘loops of loops’ expansion and outline a powerful method for the determination of differential forms for higher-order geometries. We solve the problem completely for graphs with one internal cycle, but the method can be used more generally for other geometries.

Abstract In this paper, we studied the relationship between celestial holography and chiral strings. Chiral strings differ from the usual string theory by a change of boundary conditions on the string propagators. It is shown that chiral strings would reproduce graviton amplitudes and could serve as an alternative description of Einstein’s gravity. Celestial holography is a proposed duality between gravity in asymptotically flat space-time and a CFT living on its conformal boundary. Since both are CFT descriptions of gravity, we investigate the potential connection between these two formalisms. In this paper, we find that both the energetic as well as conformal soft theorems could be derived from the OPEs of vertex operators of chiral strings. All operators in the CCFT can be described by Mellin transforming the vertex operators in the chiral string theories, and the OPE coefficients of CCFT can also be obtained from the world-sheet description.

Abstract In this paper we study a near-continuum dark matter model, in which dark sector consists of a tower of closely spaced states with weak-scale masses. We construct a five-dimensional model which naturally realizes this spectrum. The dark matter is described by a bulk field, which interacts with the brane-localized Standard Model sector via a Z portal. We then study collider signatures of this model. Near-continuum dark matter states produced in a collider undergo cascade decays, resulting in events with high multiplicity of jets and leptons, large missing energy, and displaced vertices. A custom-built Monte Carlo tool described in this paper allows for detailed simulation of the signal events. We present results of such simulations for the case of electron-positron collisions.

Abstract This is the first of a series of two papers in which we study the one-dimensional defect CFT defined by insertions of local operators along a $$\frac{1}{2}$$ -BPS Wilson line in $$\mathcal{N}$$ = 4 super Yang-Mills. In this first paper we focus on the kinematical implications of invariance under the $$\mathfrak{o}\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}\left({4}^{*}|4\right)$$ superconformal algebra preserved by the line. We study correlation functions involving both protected and unprotected supermultiplets and derive the associated superconformal blocks, using two types of superspace for short and long representations. We also discuss the spectrum of defect theories defined by the Wilson line, focusing in particular on fundamental lines in the planar limit: in this case we provide a detailed analysis of the type and number of states both at weak ’t Hooft coupling, via the free gauge theory description of the defect CFT, and at strong coupling, where there is a dual description via AdS/CFT. Focusing on the strongly-coupled regime, which will be subject to a detailed analysis using analytic bootstrap techniques in [1], we also develop a strategy that allows to explicitly build superconformal primary operators and their superconformal descendants in terms of the elementary fields in the AdS Lagrangian description. The explicit results will be used in [1] to address the problem of operators mixing at strong coupling. This paper and the companion [1] provide an extended version of the results presented in [2].

Abstract In this paper, we pursue the investigation of a generic non-linear extension of axionic electrodynamics in a Carroll-Field-Jackiw (CFJ) scenario that implements Lorentz-symmetry violation (LSV). The model we inspect consists of an arbitrary non-linear electrodynamic action coupled to the axion field in presence of an anisotropy four-vector that realizes the breaking of Lorentz symmetry under the particle point of view. For the sake of our considerations, the non-linear electromagnetic field is expanded around a constant and uniform magnetic background up to second order in the propagating photon field. The focus of our attention is the study of the material properties of the vacuum in the particular case of a space-like CFJ 4-vector. The dispersion relations associated to the plane wave solutions are explicitly worked out in two situations: the magnetic background perpendicular and parallel to the wave direction. We extend these results to consider the analysis of the birefringence phenomenon in presence of non-linearity, the axion and the LSV manifested through the spatial anisotropy. Three specific proposals of non-linear electrodynamics are contemplated: Euler-Heisenberg (EH), Born-Infeld (BI) and the Modified Maxwell electrodynamics (ModMax). Throughout the paper, we shall justify why we follow the unusual path of connecting, in a single Lagrangian density, three pieces of physics beyond the Standard Model, namely, non-linearity, axions and LSV. We anticipate that we shall not be claiming that the simultaneous introduction of these three topics beyond the Standard Model will bring new insights or clues for the efforts to detect axions or to constrain parameters associate to both non-linear electrodynamics and LSV physics. Our true goal is to actually inspect and describe how axionic, non-linear and LSV effects interfere with one another whenever physical entities like group velocity, refraction indices, birefringence and effective masses of physical excitations are computed in presence of an external constant and homogeneous magnetic field.

Abstract We show that a large subclass of 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 quiver gauge theories consisting of unitary and special unitary gauge nodes with only fundamental/bifundamental matter have multiple Seiberg-like IR duals. A generic quiver T $$ \mathcal{T} $$ in this subclass has a non-zero number of balanced special unitary gauge nodes and it is a good theory in the Gaiotto-Witten sense. We refer to this phenomenon as IR N-ality and the set of mutually IR dual theories as the N-al set associated with the quiver T $$ \mathcal{T} $$ . Starting from T $$ \mathcal{T} $$ , we construct a sequence of dualities by step-wise implementing a set of quiver mutations which act locally on the gauge nodes. The associated N-al theories can then be read off from this duality sequence. The quiver T $$ \mathcal{T} $$ generically has an emergent Coulomb branch global symmetry in the IR, such that the rank of the IR symmetry is always greater than the rank visible in the UV. We show that there exists at least one theory in the N-al set for which the rank of the IR symmetry precisely matches the rank of the UV symmetry. In certain special cases that we discuss in this work, the correct emergent symmetry algebra itself may be read off from this preferred theory (or theories) in addition to the correct rank. Finally, we give a recipe for constructing the 3d mirror associated with a given N-al set and show how the emergent Coulomb branch symmetry of T $$ \mathcal{T} $$ is realized as a UV-manifest Higgs branch symmetry of the 3d mirror. This paper is the second in a series of four papers on 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 Seiberg-like dualities, preceded by the work [1].

Abstract We construct an integrable physical model of a single particle scattering with impurities spread on a circle. The S-matrices of the scattering with the impurities are such that the quantized energies of this system, coming from the Bethe Ansatz equations, correspond to the imaginary parts of the non-trivial zeros of the the Riemann ζ(s) function along the axis $$\mathfrak{R}\left(s\right)=\frac{1}{2}$$ of the complex s-plane. A simple and natural generalization of the original scattering problem leads instead to Bethe Ansatz equations whose solutions are the non-trivial zeros of the Dirichlet L-functions again along the axis $$\mathfrak{R}\left(s\right)=\frac{1}{2}$$ . The conjecture that all the non-trivial zeros of these functions are aligned along this axis of the complex s-plane is known as the Generalised Riemann Hypothesis (GRH). In the language of the scattering problem analysed in this paper the validity of the GRH is equivalent to the completeness of the Bethe Ansatz equations. Moreover the idea that the validity of the GRH requires both the duality equation (i.e. the mapping s → 1 – s) and the Euler product representation of the Dirichlet L-functions finds additional and novel support from the physical scattering model analysed in this paper. This is further illustrated by an explicit counterexample provided by the solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations which employ the Davenport-Heilbronn function $$\mathcal{D}\left(s\right)$$ , i.e. a function whose completion satisfies the duality equation χ(s) = χ(1 – s) but that does not have an Euler product representation. In this case, even though there are infinitely many solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations along the axis $$\mathfrak{R}\left(s\right)=\frac{1}{2}$$ , there are also infinitely many pairs of solutions away from this axis and symmetrically placed with respect to it.

Abstract Real time holography is studied in the context of the embedding space formalism. In the first part of this paper, we present matching conditions for on-shell integer spin fields when going from Euclidean to Lorentzian signature on AdS background. Using the BTZ black hole as an example, we discuss various ways of lifting the physical solution from the AdS surface to the whole embedding space. The BTZ propagator for higher spin field is expressed elegantly in terms of the embedding coordinates. In the second part of the paper, we develop the proposed duality between higher spin theory and vector models. We obtain a specific map between the field configurations of these two theories in real time, so called Lorentzian AdS/CFT map. We conclude by exploring the matching conditions for higher spin fields satisfying the proposed bulk quadratic action. The physical and ghost modes can be treated independently during the Wick rotation; only physical modes are considered to be external modes.

Abstract Left Right Symmetric Model (LRSM) being an extension of the Standard model of particle physics incorporates within itself Type-I and Type-II seesaw mass terms naturally. Both the mass terms can have significant amount of contribution to the resulting light neutrino mass within the model and hence on the different phenomenology associated within. In this paper, we have thoroughly analyzed and discussed the implications of specifying different weightages to both the mass terms and also the study has been carried out for different values of $${M}_{{W}_{R}}$$ which is mass of the right-handed gauge boson. This paper also gives a deeper insight into the new physics contributions of Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay (0νββ) and their variations with the net baryon asymmetry arising out of the model. Therefore, the main objective of the present paper rests on investigating the implications of imposing different weightage to the type-I and type-II seesaw terms and different values of $${M}_{{W}_{R}}$$ on the new physics contributions of 0νββ and net baryon asymmetry arising out as a result of resonant leptogenesis. LRSM in this work has been realized using modular group of level 3, Γ(3) which is isomorphic to non-abelian discrete symmetry group A 4, the advantage being the non-requirement of flavons within the model and hence maintaining the minimality of the model.

Abstract The double-copy construction for form factors was reported in our previous work, in which a novel mechanism of turning spurious poles in Yang-Mills theory into physical poles in gravity is observed. This paper is the first of a series of two papers providing the details as well as various generalizations on the double-copy construction of tree-level form factors. In this paper, we establish the generic formalism by focusing on the form factor of tr(ϕ 2) in the Yang-Mills-scalar theory. A thorough discussion is given on the emergence of the “spurious”-type poles and various related properties. We also discuss two generalizations: the Higgs amplitudes in QCD, and the tr(ϕ 2) form factors with multiple external scalar states.

Abstract In a recent paper [arXiv:2308.00038], Anupam, Chowdhury, and Sen conjectured that the finite temperature Euclidean five-dimensional Cvetic-Youm solution saturating the BPS bound is supersymmetric. In this paper, we explicitly construct Killing spinors for this solution in five-dimensional minimal supergravity. We also expand on the previous discussions of Killing spinors for the finite temperature Euclidean Kerr-Newman solution saturating the BPS bound. For both these cases, we show that the total charge gets divided into two harmonic sources on three-dimensional flat base space.

Abstract We show that 3-dimensional AdS spacetime can be semiclassically unstable due to strongly interacting quantum field effects. In our previous paper, we have pointed out the possibility of such an instability of AdS3 by inspecting linear perturbations of the (covering space of) static BTZ black hole with AdS4 gravity dual in the context of holographic semiclassical problems. In the present paper, we further study this issue from thermodynamic viewpoint by constructing asymptotically AdS3 semiclassical solutions and computing free energies of the solutions. We find two asymptotically AdS3 solutions to the semiclassical Einstein equations with non-vanishing source term: the one whose free energy is smaller than that of the BTZ with vanishing source term and the other whose free energy is smaller than that of the global AdS3 with no horizon (thus manifestly zero-temperature background). The instability found in this paper implies the breakdown of the maximal symmetries of AdS3, and its origin is different from the well-known semiclassical linear instability since our holographic semiclassical Einstein equations in 3-dimensions do not involve higher order derivative terms.

Abstract It has been proposed that flux compactifications of supercritical string theories (i.e., with spacetime dimension D > 10) have dS vacua, with large D acting as a control parameter for corrections to the classical spacetime effective action. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the self-consistency of such models, focussing on α ′ and backreaction corrections. We first show that all supercritical AdS, Minkowski and dS vacua in this setting have ≳ O 1 $$ \gtrsim \mathcal{O}(1) $$ curvature and/or field strengths in the string frame. This may be in tension with suppressing α ′ corrections unless the coefficients of the higher-derivative terms have a sufficiently strong large-D suppression. We then argue that an additional and more severe problem arises in the dS case due to the backreaction of O-planes. In particular, we argue using a combination of geometric bounds and string-theory constraints that the O-plane backreaction is large in supercritical dS models. This implies that a large part of the naive classical geometry is eaten up by singular holes and thus indicates a breakdown of the classical description. Our finding resonates with several other recent results suggesting that string theory does not admit dS vacua in regimes where string and backreaction corrections are under control. As byproducts of our analysis, we derive a number of technical results that are useful beyond the specific applications in this paper. In particular, we compute the leading backreaction corrections to the smeared solution in a general flux compactification from D to d dimensions for an arbitrary distribution of O-planes and D-branes. We further argue for a general estimate for Green’s functions on compact manifolds (and therefore for the backreaction corrections) in terms of their diameter, volume and dimension.

Abstract We find a general formula for the two-loop renormalization counterterms of a scalar quantum field theory with interactions containing up to two derivatives, extending ’t Hooft’s one-loop result. The method can also be used for theories with higher derivative interactions, as long as the terms in the Lagrangian have at most one derivative acting on each field. We show that diagrams with factorizable topologies do not contribute to the renormalization group equations. The results in this paper will be combined with the geometric method in a subsequent paper to obtain the counterterms and renormalization group equations for the scalar sector of effective field theories (EFT) to two-loop order.

Abstract In a recent paper, Gorbenko and Zan [1] observed that O(n) symmetry alone does not protect the well-known renormalization group flow from the dilute to the dense phase of the two-dimensional O(n) model under thermal perturbations. We show in this paper that the required “extra protection” is topological in nature, and is related to the existence of certain non-invertible topological defect lines. We define these defect lines and discuss the ensuing topological protection, both in the context of the O(n) lattice model and in its recently understood continuum limit, which takes the form of a conformal field theory governed by an interchiral algebra.

Abstract We study 4-dimensional SU(N) gauge theory with one adjoint Weyl fermion and fundamental matter — either bosonic or fermionic. Symmetries, their ’t Hooft anomalies, and the Vafa-Witten-Weingarten theorems strongly constrain the possible bulk phases. The first part of the paper is dedicated to a single fundamental fermion or boson. As long as the adjoint Weyl fermion is massless, this theory always possesses a ℤ 2 N χ $$ {\mathbb{Z}}_{2N}^{\chi } $$ chiral symmetry, which breaks spontaneously, supporting N vacua and domain walls between them for a generic mass of the matter fields. We argue, however, that the domain walls generically undergo a phase transition, and we establish the corresponding 3d gauge theories on the walls. The rest of the paper is dedicated to studying the multi-flavor fundamental matter. Here, the phases crucially depend on the ratio of the number of colors and the number of fundamental flavors. We also discuss the limiting scenarios of heavy adjoint and fundamentals, which align neatly with our current understanding of QCD and N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 super Yang-Mills theory.

Abstract In two recent papers [1, 2] we have proposed a program of study which allows us to compute the correlation functions of local and semi-local fields in generalised T T ¯ $$ \textrm{T}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ -deformed integrable quantum field theories. This new program, based on the construction of form factors, opens many avenues for future study, one of which we address in this paper: computing entanglement measures employing branch point twist fields. Indeed, over the past 15 years, this has become one the leading methods for the computation of entanglement measures, both in conformal field theory and integrable quantum field theory. Thus the generalisation of this program to T T ¯ $$ \textrm{T}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ -perturbed theories offers a promising new tool for the study of entanglement measures in the presence of irrelevant perturbations. In this paper, we show that the natural two-particle form factor solution for branch point twist fields in replica theories with diagonal scattering admits a simple generalisation to a solution for T T ¯ $$ \textrm{T}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ -perturbed theories. Starting with this solution, some of the known properties of entanglement measures in massive integrable quantum field theories can be generalised to the perturbed models. We show this by focusing on the Ising field theory. During the completion of this paper, we became aware of the recent publication [3] where the same problem has been addressed.

Abstract The complex singlet extension CxSM of the Standard Model (SM) is a simple extension of the SM with two visible Higgs bosons in the spectrum and a Dark Matter (DM) candidate. In this paper we complete the computation of the next-to-leading (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections to on-shell and non-loop-induced Higgs decays. Our calculations are implemented in the code EWsHDECAY which also includes the relevant QCD corrections. Performing an extensive parameter scan in the model and including all relevant theoretical and experimental single- and di-Higgs as well as DM constraints, we obtain a viable parameter sample. We find that current DM constraints are able to test the model in DM mass regions where collider searches are not sensitive. The relative EW corrections turn out to be large for scenarios with relatively large couplings, threshold effects or small leading-order (LO) widths. Otherwise, they are of typical EW size and can amount up to about 20–25%. The theory uncertainty derived from the change of the renormalization scheme dependence then is of a few per cent. While the NLO corrections applied in the constraints due to single- and di-Higgs searches impact the validity of specific parameter points, the overall shape of the allowed parameter region is not yet sensitive to the EW corrections. This picture will change with further increased experimental precision in the future and necessitates precise predictions on the theory side as presented in this paper.

Abstract We propose a family of IR dualities for 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 U(N) SQCD with N f fundamental flavors and P Abelian hypermultiplets i.e. P hypermultiplets in the determinant representation of the gauge group. These theories are good in the Gaiotto-Witten sense if the number of fundamental flavors obeys the constraint N f ≥ 2N − 1 with generic P ≥ 1, and in contrast to the standard U(N) SQCD, they do not admit an ugly regime. The IR dualities in question arise in the window N f = 2N + 1, 2N, 2N − 1, with P = 1 in the first case and generic P ≥ 1 for the others. The dualities involving N f = 2N ± 1 are characterized by an IR enhancement of the Coulomb branch global symmetry on one side of the duality, such that the rank of the emergent global symmetry group is greater than the rank of the UV global symmetry. The dual description makes the rank of this emergent global symmetry manifest in the UV. In addition, one can read off the emergent global symmetry itself from the dual quiver. We show that these dualities are related by certain field theory operations and assemble themselves into a duality web. Finally, we show that the U(N) SQCDs with N f ≥ 2N − 1 and P Abelian hypers have Lagrangian 3d mirrors, and this allows one to explicitly write down the 3d mirror associated with a given IR dual pair. This paper is the first in a series of four papers on 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 Seiberg-like dualities.

Abstract In this paper, the A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ -theory, an extension of F-theory, is described as a fully U-duality covariant brane theory. This theory has some distinguishing features not known from world-sheet models. In particular, seen as a sigma model, both world-volume and target space coordinates are specific representations of the same group (the U-duality group). The U-duality group in question is an exceptional group (a split form of the E d series). The structure of this group allows it to encompass both the T-duality group of string theory as well as the general linear symmetry group of M $$ \mathcal{M} $$ -theory. A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ -theory is defined by the current algebras in Hamiltonian formalism, or by world-volume actions in Lagrangian formalism. The spacetime coordinates are selfdual gauge fields on the world-volume, requiring the Gauß law constraints tying the world-volume to spacetime. Solving the Gauß law constraints/the Virasoro constraints gives the world-volume/spacetime sectioning from A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ -theory to T $$ \mathcal{T} $$ -theory/ M $$ \mathcal{M} $$ -theory respectively. The A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ -theory Lagrangian admits extended symmetry which has not been observed previously in the literature, where the background fields include both the spacetime and the world-volume gravitational fields. We also constructed the four-point amplitude of A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ -theory in the low energy limit. The amplitude is written in a way that the U-duality symmetry is manifest, but after solving the section condition, it reduces to the usual four-graviton amplitude. In the previous papers, we have referred to this model as F-theory, however, F-theory initiated by Vafa is now a big branch of string theory as the study of elliptic fibrations, so we refer to these constructions as generalized models of theory for all dimensions with all duality symmetries as A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ -theory.

Abstract In models with a U(1) gauge extension beyond the Standard Model, one can derive sum rules for the couplings of the theory that are a consequence of tree-level unitarity. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive list of coupling sum rules for a general SU 2 L × U 1 Y × U 1 Y ′ $$ \textrm{SU}{(2)}_L\times \textrm{U}{(1)}_Y\times \textrm{U}{(1)}_{Y^{\prime }} $$ gauge theory coupled to an arbitrary set of fermion and scalar multiplets. These results are of particular interest for models of dark matter that employ an extended gauge sector mediated by a new (dark) Z ′ gauge boson. For the case of a minimal extension of the Standard Model with a U 1 Y ′ $$ \textrm{U}{(1)}_{Y^{\prime }} $$ gauge boson, we clarify the definitions of the weak mixing angle and the electroweak ρ parameter. We demonstrate the utility of a generalized ρ parameter (denoted by ρ ′ ) whose definition naturally follows from the unitarity sum rules developed in this paper.

Abstract In this paper, we present a method of embedding physics data manifolds with metric structure into lower dimensional spaces with simpler metrics, such as Euclidean and Hyperbolic spaces. We then demonstrate that it can be a powerful step in the data analysis pipeline for many applications. Using progressively more realistic simulated collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, we show that this embedding approach learns the underlying latent structure. With the notion of volume in Euclidean spaces, we provide for the first time a viable solution to quantifying the true search capability of model agnostic search algorithms in collider physics (i.e. anomaly detection). Finally, we discuss how the ideas presented in this paper can be employed to solve many practical challenges that require the extraction of physically meaningful representations from information in complex high dimensional datasets.

Abstract The Coon amplitude is a q-deformed generalization of the Veneziano amplitude exhibiting a semi-infinite sequence of poles that converge on an accumulation point, from which a branch cut emerges. A number of recent papers have provided compelling evidence that the residues of this amplitude satisfy the positivity requirements imposed by unitarity. This paper investigates whether positivity is also satisfied along the branch cut. It is demonstrated for a wide range of q-values that positivity violations occur in a region of the branch cut exponentially close to the accumulation point according to a scale set by q. The closing section of the paper discusses possible interpretations of this fact and strategies for excising negativity from the partial wave coefficients. An appendix presents derivations of instrumental identities relating the q-gamma and q-polygamma functions to the Weierstrass elliptic and quasiperiodic functions.

Abstract In a remarkable paper, Dienes discovered that the absence of physical tachyons in closed string theory is intimately related to oscillations in the net number of bosonic minus fermionic degrees of freedom, a pattern predicted by an underlying misaligned supersymmetry. The average of these oscillations was linked to an exponential growth controlled by an effective central charge C eff smaller than the expected inverse Hagedorn temperature. Dienes also conjectured that C eff should vanish when tachyons are absent. In this paper, we revisit this problem and show that boson-fermion oscillations are realised even when tachyons are present in the physical spectrum. In fact, we prove that the average growth rate C eff is set by the mass of the “lightest” state, be it massless or tachyonic, and coincides with the effective inverse Hagedorn temperature of the associated thermal theory. We also provide a general proof that the necessary and sufficient condition for classical stability is the vanishing of the sector averaged sum which implies C eff = 0, in agreement with Dienes’ conjecture.

Abstract In this paper, we study conformal points among the class of E $$ \mathcal{E} $$ -models. The latter are σ-models formulated in terms of a current Poisson algebra, whose Lie-theoretic definition allows for a purely algebraic description of their dynamics and their 1-loop RG-flow. We use these results to formulate a simple algebraic condition on the defining data of such a model which ensures its 1-loop conformal invariance and the decoupling of its observables into two chiral Poisson algebras, describing the classical left- and right-moving fields of the theory. In the case of so-called non-degenerate E $$ \mathcal{E} $$ -models, these chiral sectors form two current algebras and the model takes the form of a WZW theory once realised as a σ-model. The case of degenerate E $$ \mathcal{E} $$ -models, in which a subalgebra of the current algebra is gauged, is more involved: the conformal condition yields a wider class of theories, which includes gauged WZW models but also other examples, seemingly different, which however sometimes turn out to be related to gauged WZW models based on other Lie algebras. For this class, we build non-local chiral fields of parafermionic-type as well as higher-spin local ones, forming classical W $$ \mathcal{W} $$ -algebras. In particular, we find an explicit and efficient algorithm to build these local chiral fields. These results (and their potential generalisations discussed at the end of the paper) open the way for the quantisation of a large class of conformal E $$ \mathcal{E} $$ -models using the standard operator formalism of two-dimensional CFT.

Abstract Due to the heavy-quark symmetry of Non-Relativistic Quantum Chromodynamics (NRQCD), the cross-section for the production of η c can be predicted. This NRQCD prediction when confronted with data from the LHCb is seen to fail miserably. We address this LHCb η c anomaly in this paper using a new approach called modified NRQCD, an approach that has been shown to work extremely well for studying J/ψ, ψ′ and χ c production at the LHC. We show, in the present paper, that the predictions for η c production agrees very well with LHCb measurements at the three different values of energy that the experiment has presented data for. Modified NRQCD also explains the intriguing agreement of the LHCb η c data with the colour-singlet prediction. The remarkable agreement of the theoretical predictions with the LHCb data suggests that modified NRQCD is closer to apprehending the true dynamics of quarkonium production.

Abstract The summation over spin structures, which is required to implement the GSO projection in the RNS formulation of superstring theories, often presents a significant impediment to the explicit evaluation of superstring amplitudes. In this paper we discover that, for Riemann surfaces of genus two and even spin structures, a collection of novel identities leads to a dramatic simplification of the spin structure sum. Explicit formulas for an arbitrary number of vertex points are obtained in two steps. First, we show that the spin structure dependence of a cyclic product of Szegö kernels (i.e. Dirac propagators for worldsheet fermions) may be reduced to the spin structure dependence of the four-point function. Of particular importance are certain trilinear relations that we shall define and prove. In a second step, the known expressions for the genus-two even spin structure measure are used to perform the remaining spin structure sums. The dependence of the spin summand on the vertex points is reduced to simple building blocks that can already be identified from the two-point function. The hyper-elliptic formulation of genus-two Riemann surfaces is used to derive these results, and its SL(2, ℂ) covariance is employed to organize the calculations and the structure of the final formulas. The translation of these results into the language of Riemann ϑ-functions, and applications to the evaluation of higher-point string amplitudes, are relegated to subsequent companion papers.

Abstract We re-analyse the bulk reconstruction for a scalar field in Lorentzian AdS spacetime, both for the case of even and odd dimensions, for an extended range of conformal dimensions where the original HKLL reconstruction has to be modified. We also discuss the use of space-like Green’s functions in the bulk reconstruction. We demonstrate that in the extended range also the singular part of the Green’s function, omitted in the original papers, has be included. The results are particularly simple and physically interesting for integer conformal dimensions below the range considered in the original HKLL papers.

Abstract Our paper presents two main results. First, we study the renormalized free energies of Euclidean Einstein gravity in asymptotically AdS8 and various field theories on a squashed seven sphere. In the gravity theory, we demonstrate the absence of the Hawking-Page transition, while in the field theory, we focus on the O(N) vector model and the massless free fermion model. The conformal symmetry governs the universal behaviors of the free energies for small and large squashings, which we confirm numerically and analytically. Second, we evaluate the second-order derivative of CFT free energy with respect to the squashing parameter, finding universal results that hold for generic conformal field theories. We examine two different squashings, one with an SU(2) bundle, which is the primary focus of our paper, and another with a U(1) bundle, where our results align with the conjectured formula from the gravity side in the literature.

Abstract Typically, a production of a particle with a small transverse momentum in hadron-hadron collisions is described by CSS-based TMD factorization at moderate Bjorken x B ~ 1 and by k T -factorization at small x B . A uniform description valid for all x B is provided by rapidity-only TMD factorization developed in a series of recent papers at the tree level. In this paper the rapidity-only TMD factorization for particle production by gluon fusion is extended to the one-loop level.

Abstract Understanding the map of line defects in a Quantum Field Theory under a given duality is generically a difficult problem. This paper is the second in a series which aims to address this question in the context of 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 mirror symmetry. A general prescription for constructing vortex defects and their mirror maps in quiver gauge theories beyond the A-type was presented by the author in an earlier paper [1], where specific examples involving D-type and affine D-type quivers were discussed. In this paper, we apply the aforementioned prescription to construct a family of vortex defects as coupled 3d-1d systems in quiver gauge theories beyond the ADE-type, and study their mirror maps. Specifically, we focus on a class of quiver gauge theories involving unitary gauge nodes with edge multiplicity greater than 1, i.e. two gauge nodes in these theories may be connected by multiple bifundamental hypermultiplets. Quiver gauge theories of this type arise as 3d mirrors of certain Argyres-Douglas theories compactified on a circle. Some of these quiver gauge theories are known to have a pair of 3d mirrors, which are themselves related by an IR duality, discussed recently in [2]. For a concrete example where a pair of 3d mirrors do exist, we study how the vortex defects constructed using our prescription map to Wilson defects in each mirror theory.

Abstract This paper describes the angular distribution of Λ b 0 → Λ → p K − ℓ + ℓ − $$ {\Lambda}_b^0\to \Lambda \left(\to p{K}^{-}\right){\ell}^{+}{\ell}^{-} $$ decays. A full expression is given for the case of multiple interfering spin-states with spin ≤ 5 2 $$ \frac{5}{2} $$ . This distribution is relevant for future measurements of Λ b 0 → p K − ℓ + ℓ − $$ {\Lambda}_b^0\to p{K}^{-}{\ell}^{+}{\ell}^{-} $$ decays, where different states cannot easily be separated based on their mass alone. New observables arise when considering spin- 5 2 $$ \frac{5}{2} $$ states as well as interference between states. An exploration of their behaviour for a variety of beyond the Standard Model scenarios shows that some of these observables exhibit interesting sensitivity to the Wilson coefficients involved in b → sℓ + ℓ − transitions. Others are insensitive to the Wilson coefficients and can be used to verify the description of Λ b 0 → Λ $$ {\Lambda}_b^0\to \Lambda $$ form-factors. A basis of weighting functions that can be used to determine all of the angular observables described in this paper in a moment analysis of the experimental data is also provided.

Abstract Loop corrections to finite-time correlation functions in quantum field theories away from equilibrium can be calculated using the in-in path integral approach. In this paper, we calculate the unequal-time two-point correlator for different massless self-interacting scalar quantum field theories on a Minkowski background, starting the field evolution at an arbitrary initial time. We find the counterterms that need to be added to UV-renormalize the result, including usual in-out counterterms in the dynamics and additional initial state counterterms that are required to cancel all UV divergences. We find that the late-time limit of the renormalized correlation function exhibits a linear or logarithmic growth in time, depending on whether the interaction strength is dimension-one or dimensionless, respectively. The late-time correlations match those obtained in our companion paper and, as shown there, the divergences do not indicate a real IR issue, consistent with what one would expect in Minkowski.

Abstract This is the second of a series of two papers devoted to the partition function realization of Wilson surfaces in strict higher gauge theory. A higher 2-dimensional counterpart of the topological coadjoint orbit quantum mechanical model computing Wilson lines is presented based on the derived geometric framework, which has shown its usefulness in 4-dimensional higher Chern-Simons theory. Its symmetries are described. Its quantization is analyzed in the functional integral framework. Strong evidence is provided that the model does indeed underlie the partition function realization of Wilson surfaces. The emergence of the vanishing fake curvature condition is explained and homotopy invariance for a flat higher gauge field is shown. The model’s Hamiltonian formulation is further furnished highlighting the model’s close relationship to the derived Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau theory developed in the companion paper.

Abstract In a recent paper we studied the entanglement content of zero-density excited states in complex free quantum field theories, focusing on the symmetry resolved entanglement entropy (SREE). By zero-density states we mean states consisting of a fixed, finite number of excitations above the ground state in an infinite-volume system. The SREE is defined for theories that possess an internal symmetry and provides a measure of the contribution to the total entanglement of each symmetry sector. In our work, we showed that the ratio of Fourier-transforms of the SREEs (i.e. the ratio of charged moments) takes a very simple and universal form for these states, which depends only on the number, statistics and symmetry charge of the excitations as well as the relative size of the entanglement region with respect to the whole system’s size. In this paper we provide numerical evidence for our formulae by computing functions of the charged moments in two free lattice theories: a 1D Fermi gas and a complex harmonic chain. We also extend our results in two directions: by showing that they apply also to excited states of interacting theories (i.e. magnon states) and by developing a higher dimensional generalisation of the branch point twist field picture, leading to results in (interacting) higher-dimensional models.

Abstract We use an abelian model to study linear power corrections which arise from infrared renormalons and affect event shapes in e + e − annihilation into hadrons. While previous studies explored power corrections in the two-jet region, in this paper we focus on the three-jet region, which is the most relevant one for the determination of the strong coupling constant. We show that for a broad class of shape variables, linear power corrections can be written in a factorised form, that involves an analytically-calculable function, that characterises changes in the shape variable when a soft parton is emitted, and a constant universal factor. This universal factor is proportional to the so-called Milan factor, introduced in earlier literature to describe linear power corrections in the two-jet region. We find that the power corrections in the two-jet and in the three-jet regions are different, a result which is bound to have important consequences for the determination of the strong coupling constant from event shapes. As a further illustration of the power of the approach developed in this paper, we provide explicit analytic expressions for the leading power corrections to the C-parameter and the thrust distributions in the N -jet region for arbitrary N, albeit in the abelian model.

Abstract The physical observables of quantum theory can be described by perturbation theory, which is often given by diverging power series. This divergence is connected to the existence of non-perturbative phenomena, where resurgence allows us to study this connection. Applying this idea to the WKB expansion, the exact WKB analysis gives a clear connection to non-perturbative phenomena. In this paper, we apply the exact WKB analysis to the Unruh effect and Hawking radiation. The mechanism we found in this paper is similar to the Schwinger effect of a constant electric field, where the background is static but the Stokes phenomenon appears in the temporal part. Comparing this with a sonic black hole, our calculations show a clear discrepancy between them. Then, we briefly explain how quantum backreactions can be included in the exact WKB formalism.

Abstract In this paper we focus on the orthogonal momentum amplituhedron O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ k , a recently introduced positive geometry that encodes the tree-level scattering amplitudes in ABJM theory. We generate the full boundary stratification of O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ k for various k and conjecture that its boundaries can be labelled by so-called orthogonal Grassmannian forests (OG forests). We determine the generating function for enumerating these forests according to their dimension and show that the Euler characteristic of the poset of these forests equals one. This provides a strong indication that the orthogonal momentum amplituhedron is homeomorphic to a ball. This paper is supplemented with the Mathematica package orthitroids which contains useful functions for exploring the structure of the positive orthogonal Grassmannian and the orthogonal momentum amplituhedron.

Abstract This is the first of a series of two papers devoted to the partition function realization of Wilson surfaces in strict higher gauge theory. A higher version of the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau theory of coadjoint orbits is presented based on the derived geometric framework, which has shown its usefulness in 4-dimensional higher Chern-Simons theory. An original notion of derived coadjoint orbit is put forward. A theory of derived unitary line bundles and Poisson structures on regular derived orbits is constructed. The proper derived counterpart of the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization condition is then identified. A version of derived prequantization is proposed. The difficulties hindering a full quantization, shared with other approaches to higher quantization, are pinpointed and a possible way-out is suggested. The theory we elaborate provide the geometric underpinning for the field theoretic constructions of the companion paper.
