Souk Okaz, or the Okaz Market, is located to the south-east of Taif, Saudi Arabia. It is a natural environment distinguished by the appearance of desert plants formations. The aim of this paper is to study the plant coverage of this area by analyzing the size of the plant coverage and then studying the plant status. Then, the paper has emphasize the importance of the plant coverage as it helps us achieve the goals of Sustainable Development in the area. The analytic-descriptive method has been used for the purpose of this study, where the researcher has used the data collected by the sensor, which is carried on the Landsat to calculate the size of the plant coverage area. In addition to that, the researcher has used a field study to categorize the plant species according to their status. The study has found out that the plant coverage is rather small and that there has been constant loss of plants in between the years 1990-2010. Furthermore, the plants found are of the driable type. The number of the species of the plants was found to be 31 belonging to 27 plant species and 16 plant types. In fact, the plant coverage in the area can be used in a better way to the serve the purposes of the sustainable development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
