Objective To analyze the learning curve of laparoscopic hepatectomy （LH） . Methods The clinical data of 24 patients with hepatic hemangioma underwent LH from July 2009 to October 2014 in our department was retrospective analyzed. They were divided into two groups by the date of October 2011: early group and later group. The operative duration， intraoperative blood loss， postoperative pain，postoperative eating time， time of postoperative the first time ambulation，time of postoperative intestinal function recovery， and postoperative hospital stay were compared between early group and later group. Results No postoperative death occurred. There were 22 patients undergoing total LH and 2 patients undergoing conversion to laparotomy. The later group was better than the early group in the operative duration， intraoperative blood loss，postoperative eating time， time of postoperative the first time ambulation， and time of postoperative intestinal function recovery （ ＜0.05） . There were no differences in the postoperative pain and postoperative hospital stay between the two groups （ > 0.05） . There was postoperative liver incisal margin in one patient who was recurred by adjusting abdominal drainage tube. No other complications such as jaundice，bile leakage，hemorrhage，incisional infection，pleural effusion，fever，hepatic insufficiency and abdominal wall incisional hernia in any patients of the two groups during the postoperative hospital stay and the follow-up period. The patients of the two groups were diagnosed as cavernous hemangioma of liver. Conclu sion The standardized laparoscopic left lateral resection is a safe and feasible as a technique for training surgeons in LH，but has learning curve. Surgeons can master LH better after 8 cases of laparoscopic left lateral resection was done. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
