• Organic-inorganic hybrids of polythiophene (PTh) decorated ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles. • Microwave-assisted catalytic degradation of Isoniazid drug. • 94% degradation in 24 min. • Analysis of degraded fragments. • Fukui index and proposed degradation pathay. This present work reports for the first time, microwave-assisted catalytic degradation of isoniazid drug using organic–inorganic hybrids of polythiophene (PTh) decorated ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles. The hybrids were characterized using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy along with energy dispersive spectra (SEM-EDS). The nanohybrids were used as catalysts for the degradation of isoniazid (ISN) drug under microwave irradiation. Almost 94% degradation of isoniazid was attained within 24 min using 100 mg of the catalyst. The degraded drug fragments were analyzed using LCMS and a tentative mechanism of degradation was proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
