A new coumarin-based probe 3-acetyl-7-diethylaminocoumarinthiosemicarbazone (DCT) is synthesized for Al3+ fluorescence detection in CH 3 CH 2 OH/H 2 O (6 : 4, v / v). The fluorescence intensity at 428 nm was enhanced about 15-fold with the fluorescence changed from colorless to blue. The binding constantof Al3+ with DCT is 5.04 × 106 M−1. The limit of detection (LOD) of Al3+ is calculated to be 82 nM. Furthermore, the binding details are determined by Job's plot and ESI - MS studies, which indicated that a stoichiometric ratio of 1 : 1 complex is formed between Al3+ and DCT. Cell imaging confirmed that DCT could useful for detecting Al3+ in HepG2 cells. • Probe DCT is highly selective and sensitive towards Al3+in aqueous solution phase with LOD is 82 nM,which could monitor intracellular Al3+ levels. • The mechanism indicated that a ratio of 1 : 1 complex is formed between Al3+ and DCT. • A novel fluorescence sensor (TCS) for Pd2+ was designed and synthesized. • TCS exhibited selective sensing abilities for Pd2+ among various metallic ions. • The detection limit for Pd2+ was as low as 4.32 × 10−8 M. • The sensing mechanism of 1:1 stoichiometry ratio was confirmed. • TCS displayed good bioimaging performance on Pd2+ detection in living system. Although some Pd2+ sensors were presented, the in-situ and real-time examination of Pd2+ based on fluorescent sensor is still a challenging task. In this work, a novel thiourea-cyanostilbene derivative (TCS) was designed and synthesized as the effective fluorescent sensor on in-situ and real-time sensing Pd2+ in aqueous media. TCS possessed good AIE fluorescence in THF/H 2 O solution. The fluorescence was selectively quenched by Pd2+ among all kinds of metallic ions. The sensing mechanism of 1:1 stoichiometry ratio for TCS with Pd2+was confirmed by Job's plot, 1H NMR and MS spectra. The detection limit was as low as 4.32 × 10−8 M. TCS exhibited the good sensing application for Pd2+ in tested paper and simulated samples with low errors. TCS had the excellent fluorescence imaging performance in living cells with the fluorescence imaging response on Pd2+. This research not only reported an effective fluorescence sensor for Pd2+, but also suggested the good application prospect on in-situ and real-time sensing Pd2+ in complicated environment. • A novel NIR colorimetric-fluorescence probe was prepared for detection of hydrogen sulfide. • The probe showed rapid, specific and sensitive detection of hydrogen sulfide with a large Stokes shift. • The probe was capable of imaging hydrogen sulfide in living cells and mice. We presented here a novel near-infrared fluorescent probe based on 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole -dicyanoisophorone as fluorophore and 2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonyl moiety as detection functionalized group for the discrimination of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S). Probe L exhibited good specificity and sensitivity "turn on" response at 720 nm with a large Stokes shift (155 nm), rapid response (< 60 s) and low detection limit (3.15 × 10−7 M), which also could be identified by the naked eyes. Moreover, probe L was successfully used to image exogenous/endogenous H 2 S in cells and mice, which demonstrated its potential applications in living systems. A novel fluorescein based on 2-(benzo[ d ]thiazol-2-yl)phenol-dicyanoisophorone probe was constructed for the discrimination of hydrogen sulfide. The probe was applied for the rapid, sensitive, large Stokes shift, colorimetric and large near-infrared fluorometric determination of H 2 S, based on the displacement approach. The low cytotoxicity and excellent imaging performance was successfully applied for mitochondrial localization in living cells and endogenous and exogenous H 2 S detection in vivo. • A novel green fluorescence sensor FLN for Hg2+ was developed. • FLN demonstrated a distinct fluorescence enhancing due to the "PET-off". • FLN towards Hg2+ features good selectivity, high sensitivity and eminent photostability. • With low toxicity, FLN was successfully applied for quantitatively monitoring Hg2+ and evaluating its toxicity in living cells. Mercury has complex biological toxicity and can cause a variety of physiological diseases and even death, so it is of great importance to develop novel strategies for detecting trace mercury in environmental and biological sample. In this work, a new type of green fluorescence sensor FLN based on fluorescein-carbazole was developed. FLN demonstrated a distinct fluorescence enhancing at 525 nm towards Hg2+ ions due to the "PET-off" (Photoinduced Electron Transfer-off). The binding modes between FLN with Hg2+ was found to be 1:1 by job plot analysis. The limits of detection of TR for sensing Hg2+ is down to 40 nM. Mercury ions are highly toxic to living organisms and environment, hence Monitoring and quantification of mercury ions remain great significance. Herein, we have designed and synthesized a novel reaction-based fluorescence probe RANS for detection of Hg2+ by using a xanthene derivate as fluorophore and a thiosemicarbazide moiety as the recognition site. By applying mercury-promoted desulfurization reactions, probe RANS exhibited excellent capability of detecting Hg2+, such as rapid response (120 s), high sensitivity (0.019 μM) and good selectivity. Upon reaction with Hg2+, the thiosemicarbazide group of probe RANS formed 1,3,4-oxadiazole along with a significant color change from colorless to light green. Importantly, RANS has been successfully applied to selectively imaging Hg2+ in living cells with low cytotoxicity and quantitative detection of Hg2+ in real water samples. A novel fluorescent probe IMPD based on imidazo[1,2- a pyridine for detection of hydrazine was designed and synthesized. This probe used maleimide as the recognition group, which was rapid and sensitive for hydrazine. To compare with our previous probe for hydrazine, this newly probe showed a lower detection limit for 9.1 ppb. A novel ratiometric fluorescence probe (M1) for hypochlorite (ClO−) based on a mechanism of Fluorescent Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) has been constructed. Probe M1 can be regarded as a difunctional probe for ClO− and Hg2+. Probe M1 exhibited good specificity and sensitivity towards ClO− over other related analytes as along with low detection limit (13.6 nM). Furthermore, it has been successfully used in living Eca109 cells for fluorescence imaging hypochlorite.
