Introduction: The consumption of alcoholic beverages reduces the body's ability to deal with dangerous situations and exposes people to trauma. Objective: To determine the association between the consumption of alcoholic beverages and the characteristics of maxillofacial fractures treated at a Cuban university hospital in the context of COVID-19. Material and Methods: An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study was carried out in the Maxillofacial Surgery unit at the “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes” General University Hospital during the year 2020. Prevalence ratios, 95% confidence intervals and p-values were obtained using generalized linear models. Results: In 58.23% of the cases, fractures were related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The fundamental etiology was interpersonal violence (47.75%), regardless of the consumption of alcoholic beverages. There was a prevalence of patients with nasal fractures (n=98; 55.06%), among which, 35.71% had consumed alcoholic beverages at the time of the trauma. Introduction: It is necessary to keep up to date regarding scientific advances, even when having controversial options such as Sci-Hub. The scientific literature is generally limited to opinions about the website, and it is likely that certain personal or academic characteristics of undergraduate students are related to its knowledge. Objective: To identify some socio-educational and scientific factors associated with knowing Sci-Hub in Peruvian dental students. Material and Methods: The study uses a cross-sectional secondary data analysis design. In regard to the main variable, we asked about knowledge of the existence of Sci-Hub and calculated association statistics. Results: There were 263 participants and the average age was 21.7. Of the total, 75% were female, and 59% knew about Sci-Hub. The multivariate analysis showed that knowing scientific journals (aPR: 2.35; 95% CI: 1.43-3.84; p=0.001), publication of scientific articles (aPR: 1.24; 95% CI: 1.00-1.54; p=0.046) and bibliographic search training (aPR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.14-1.86; p=0.003) were factors associated with a greater level of knowledge in regard to Sci-Hub. In contrast, there was a lower level of knowledge among those with a basic level of English (aPR: 0.64; 95% CI: 0.50-0.82; p=0.001), adjusted for three variables. Conclusion: Slightly more than half of the students know this resource used for obtaining scientific information, and it was predominantly associated with having a scientific background.

Introduction: It is very important to research into the reasons why students choose a career in Dentistry; however, current Cuban studies on this topic are scarce. This study aims to characterize the motivations for studying Dentistry and to identify the associated factors in Cuban students. Material and Methods: A total of 1324 students from nine Cuban universities participated in this cross-sectional, analytic, observational, multicenter and questionnaire-based study. The “Dental Motivation Scale”, a validated test, was used to measure social, altruistic, economic, and prestige motivators. For statistical analysis, frequencies and percentages were described, and generalized linear models were used to establish statistical associations. Results: Sixty six percent of the surveyed students were female and the mean age was 21.2. The students were more motivated to major in Dentistry by their desire to study for constant progress (57%) as well as the possibility of being able to help others (50%). Those who had relatives that were dentists had a lower social/altruistic motivation (studying for constant progress; p=0.004). Introduction: Conducting research at the undergraduate level is essential to prepare future professionals for the process of properly channeling their scientific interest and provision of care. However, the factors influencing the degree of participation of students in research are unknown. Aim: To determine the socio-educational factors associated with the perception of research among stomatology students in a Cuban university. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study conducted on 166 stomatology students. Participants received an anonymous, validated and self-administered questionnaire designed to collect information on the perception of scientific research within the educational spectrum, which included elements related to writing, participation, scientific publication and the interest of pursuing a career in research. Using associative statistics, those who had an overall positive perception of research were considered interested and were assessed according to socio-educational variables. Results: Students showed a positive perception of scientific research; however, when asked if they wanted to pursue a career in research, only 61.4% responded affirmatively. Objective: To analyze the fifty top-cited articles on trigeminal neuralgia during the period 2000-2016. Methods: A bibliometric study using Harzing's Publish or Perish 5 software and Google Scholar as the database was performed. The term used in the search was "trigeminal neuralgia." A list was generated with the 50 top-cited articles in the period 2000-2016 and variables of interest were studied. Results: The articles received 12316 citations with a mean of 724.47 and 246.32 citations per year and per articles, respectively. The article with the highest mean number of citations/year (48.57) was published by Cruccu et al., in 2010. The articles had an h index of 48 and were published in 24 scientific journals. The journals with the highest number of articles were Neurology and Journal of Neurosurgery, with 7 articles each (14%). A prevalence of North American authorship was observed (n=14; 28.0%). Original articles (n=26; 52.0%) and papers written by six authors (n=12; 24.0%) were also the most prevalent. The highest number of articles by a binomial international collaboration was from Austria-Italy (n=3; 6.00%). The most researched topics were related to updates in specific treatments for trigeminal neuralgia and neuropathic pain in general. Conclusions: The most cited article was published in 2010 in the European Journal of Neurology. Articles published in the years 2001 and 2002 received the highest number of citations. The most relevant scientific collaborations were observed between Italian and Austrian researchers.
